  • Both the S80 and the Saab 9-5 have similar results. Gotta love those Swedes, always looking out for us.

  • Volvo was the first car that actually had seatbelts, not bad.

  • i love how volvo does their homework on vehicle safety. look closely at how the front end absorbs all the shock and the rest of the car shows little to no signs of bending. fabulous

  • Volvo is one of the safest cars in the whole wide universe! :)

  • until 2005 this was the safest car in the world. for 5 years. volvo definitely earns its safety reputation

  • @Areoplane7 safest car in the world? How about the BMW E65 (from 2002) or Audi D3 (from 2002)?Are these cars under the S80?

  • @LPFan3118 since when are 7 series and a8 in s80 class?

  • my car s80 t6-99 looked exactly like this car in the front, and also looked like a tiny golf in the rear after a crash into the woods:P No problems afterwards, just to open the door and step out:P Very nice car to crash in!

  • i have `99 s80 and im happy about it.i have chance only normal parts like brake pads, discs, timingbelt etc.so who had a problem with 99 models its only ur bad luck.so buy a ford or opel and compair how happy u r after that and how much u spend money for repair it weekly!!

  • Ha

    dats mah boy ;)

  • s80's fucing suck. this is probly the worst car volvo ever made. i have one, PIECE OF SHIT. the fucker has a mind of its own. leaks oil randomly, the climate control turns on wen the car is completely off and kills my battery. not to mention the tranny makes weird noises becuz its a GM transmission AND it needs THOUSANDS of dollars worth of front end work. DO NOT EVER BUY THESE CARSSSS. not to mention y seatbelt doesnt even work anymore

  • @alexc3589 no sorry s80 is the safest car in the world. and they dont normaly do what yours is. i dont know whats wrong with yours. but yeah look it up its the safesest on the road the 2000- 2006 volvo s80

  • @jmichael1holmes i never said it wasnt the SAFEST but the one i have "1999 s80 2.9 volvo" is a complete problem ridden piece of garbage. look it up, the 1999 s80 volvo is the WORST money pit volvo u can buy. thanks

  • @alexc3589 I have to disagree - the Volvo S80 is one of the finest, best-assembled upscale cars ever made. I should know because I'm a diehard Volvo enthusiast. They just need plenty of TLC. I'd take any '99 S80 (supposedly the worst year for the cars) over even the worst Toyota.

  • @jsrosa1282 Because you're mentally ill.

  • @OranjeEINS Actually, I'm saying it's real. I love the S80s - they rock!!

  • @alexc3589 Than you don't have volvo. I have Volvo s80 2003 2.4 125kW and NO PROBLEMS you mentioned. A friend of mine also drives s80 2001 2.4 120kW diesel and no problems. Take care of your car and don't ruin it , dumbass.

  • @alexc3589 The climate fan turns on when the car is off to dry the evaporator. It is normal. And get a new battery.

  • i drive this lol didnt know people appreciated these that much i feel more proud driving one

  • Volvo is, in fact, for life....

  • Im from SWEDEN the swedish pride ! :D my mum is going to buy 1 volvo s80 to my birthday i cant fucking WAIT !!!

  • My girlfriend's FIRST car was a 2000 Volvo S80 that she paid $10,000 in 2008. WHAT A MONEY-PIT VOLVO'S ARE!!! The high-price means high-failure. These cars suck! The engine compartment is extremely cramped even in a non-turbo. To get a single part you need to take 4 other things out. They break down constantly and the parts are extremely expensive. My Girlfriend has replaced Transmission $3,500. Alternator $800. Axel shaft $700. ABS module $700. O2 Sensor $400. All within 16,000 miles.

  • @mrjustin5 You have to factor in how the previous owner took care of the car. Like was it up to date in oil changes, services, etc. I know my mom had a volvo that she bought and it lasted above 350k miles. Trust man, these cars are great cars as long as you keep in in well-maintained position!!

  • @bigswol34 Bigswol34 - Well maintained means: Replace those things that should not break more than once. Look at Kelly Blue Book website. The Volvo S80 gets 3.6 Stars out of 5. On the otherhand, a 1996 Toyota Camry gets 4.6 stars out of 5. Changing the oil regularly or not, does not effect transmission, alternator, ABS module. Read the KBB website and see all of the people complaining about how they dump thousands of dollars into these junkers to keep them running.

  • @mrjustin5 They might be complaining, but this is from experience. Not trying to be rude or anything, but I could care less about what a the book says. This is just from experience......That's better than any book in my opinion.

  • @mrjustin5 That's because you bought the worst year for Volvo ever. And paid too much.

    GM trans? Yep.

    ETM? Yep.

ABS module that is garbage? Yep

I hope that ETM has been replaced under warranty because with a delivery date in the 2000's, you're running up on the end of your extended warranty fast.

  • @KLowD9x The Volvo Stealership (Dealership) swears up and down that the computer history shows that her car had the ETM replaced and I was sure to have it checked out before the 10-year recall warranty. Yes, the GM transmission blew. ABS module went out and caused numerous errors codes that was completely unrelated to the ABS. Its a time bomb. I'm wondering what is going to go next. Cant sell it without a hassle because the bank owns the car.

  • my grand dad: Volvo

    my dad: Volvo

    me hehe: Volvo

    and my kids(lol) : Volvo

    Volvo For Life

  • its a frontal impact hence no side airbags you douchebag...

  • front tire still rolls after impact... TANK!!!

  • Doesn't really look that safe really, I've seen Ford's safer than that! And no side airbags for a Volvo? That's bad.

  • @talldude123 yea, but still Volvo makes worlds safest cars so fuck Ford :D

  • Well all I can say is having crashed my s-80 last week quite badly I got out and walked away. I am also about to walk into a garage here in the uk and buy another one.

  • On those model year S80's, you could've gotten some burns from the gasses in the drivers airbag. That is why it wasn't a best pick that year. Also, the airbag sensors weren't adjusted correctly. During the 5 mph bumper test, the airbags had deployed. The same thing happened during the bumper test of the 2002 Kia Sedona.

  • it doesnt look very safety to me

  • ye? what about this?

    /watch?v=BOFIt9iw1Fs&NR=1

  • yes that car was safety ahhah

  • so u stay allive if u are this kind of accident what is the speed?

  • I was scared of Volvos from 1998-January 14, 2004, thank God that fear is over :) I rode in a Volvo on Sept 8, 2009 for the first time in 11 years LOL.

  • A-pillar looked a little weak.

  • Yes, there was some rupture. But the design goes back to 1998...

  • tak je to volvo

  • stiffness can be a bad attribute. Stiffness transfers forces, while bending and plastic action dampen.

  • Compared to new cars, yes their is less roof collapse. But you have to keep in mind that this is nearly 10 years ago when this car came/ VERY good for the time

  • I totally agree. But this is a 2000 volvo S80. For the time it was verry safe.

  • Exactly. Also, Swedish Folksam, that conducts statistical observations through actual accidents rather than crash tests, has proven that this is indeed a very, very safe car.

  • yet the saab 9-5 is safer and is on a much older platform

  • Yeah, the 9-5 acutally was very impressive when tested back in the late '90'ies. I'm sure it did well in the Folksam tests, too.

  • hell it still is

  • I have to disagree on that one. Four stars don't impress me these days, when five stars is practically the standard.

  • why do all you shitheads (no offence thats just how i put things) look at crash tests you need to look at real world results and that means that in the real world a 9-5 is safer

  • This is an interesting discussion - and one that I was hoping could be conducted without the use of abusive language and the like.

Anyway - you're right about the real-word results, to a certain degree. But I have a number of counter-arguments on that account:

  • 1) Both cars scored identical marks in Folksam's investigations of real-life accidents

    2) As I recall, SAAB's head airbags didn't cover the rear-seat passengers aorund 1998. Of course, side collisions happen much more rarely than offset frontal ones (hence the presumably modest weight in the Folksam investigations), but that still didn't help those who sat in the backseat back then. Volvo's side curtain airbags covered both seat rows.

  • 3) As I recall, the 9-5 didn't come with ESP as standard equipment in 1998, whereas the Volvo S80 did. ESP has proven extremely important when it comes to avoiding accidents - something that's very, very hard for Folksam-like investigations to take into account, inasmuch as these investations consider the damages WHEN they have occured.

  • To sum it up, my point is that the Volvo, in its standard version incarnation, scored slightly less points in the EuroNCAP crash test, idendical marks in the Folksam test - and had better active safety to avoid accidents from even happening. That makes the Volvo the safer choice of the two cars. But please correct me if my assumptions are incorrect, and my arguments (in casu) of course fall flat. :-)

  • If he had a seatbelt and no airbag he probably would survive..

  • Hoorah for Volvo's!!!

  • volvo is the safest car in the world and that why i only buy that car

  • @toyotasennia911

  • good but i expected better as this is a volvo..suprised that the main chassis bent a little and the driver door out of its original position...nice video btw
