    Kotik tranformed into Tina Majorino

  • This might be a long shot but does anyone know the font commonly used for the opening credits in Jones's movies? Thanks in advance.

  • Baby Kotick is so adorable.

  • I love Chuck Jones. I see Loony Tunes in every frame.

  • I'm all for animals, but for some people, fishing and *wince* seal clubbing is a way of life and that's what they've been doing for eons. I'm not promoting it, I'm just saying that people need to look at it realistically.

  • @sofiaschizo There also needs to be a reasonable limit.

  • @LadyCorsaires absolutely. Everything in moderation

  • I LOVED this movie growing up!!! :"D I STILL love it :''3

  • I have one question. Can I not find ONE movie, ONE animated short, ANYTHING, that has animals in it yet doesn't have a PETA/treehugger filled message, "Humans are all evil who kill and destroy everything!!"? Don't get me wrong, such things like hunting baby seals are wrong and should be stopped, but having that sort of message in every single dang animal movie get a little old after awhile.

  • @ArgentumHorse To be fair this movie is from the 70s.

  • lol "GOOD... BYE... DADDY!

  • God, it's been ages since I've seen this! Last time I watched this I was six! Happy childhood memories!

  • lol the white seal reminds me of Jerry from Tom&Jerry XD

  • Apparently Kotic was a bit of mischief trouble maker as a young seal.

  • How is the seal's name spelled?

  • IT BARKED :D

  • Wow...I watched this on the old Nickelodeon Spcial Delivery block on Saturdays and Sundays. Those were the days.

  • Damn that cute little baby seal with all those precious tears!!! Sooo cute!!! lol

  • i thought the enemy of seals where sharks and whales

  • Man. I don't remember Sea Catch being that much of a dick in the book.

  • The baby seal is drawn so adorably cute, I just want to hug him and kiss him.

  • this movie is so badass. Ill never forget when I was a kid and the seal clubbers thought he was a ghost. At that point I wanted to be a Seal Clubber-Clubber

  • DMMM !!!

  • genius, that's all

  • I LOVED this movie so much when I was little I wore out my vhs of it! It's still just as entertaining and adorable <3

  • I love how Matka always has the knowing "Mommy" look.

  • i was a video on here that shows real dead baby seals i cried so i watch this the baby is ssssssssssssooooooooooooo CUTE

  • how cute is this baby seal!

  • People who disliked this have absolutely no heart! This cartoon is so darn cute and at times traumatizing it makes me want to hitchhike to Canada and crusade against those baby seal-clubbing practices that are supposedly still going on. Kotec for the win! Eternal cuteness.

  • @AlienAbandoned Unfortunately sealing is now at its absolute worst!!!

Over one and a half million seals have been murdered in the past four years on the instruction of the Canadian President...

  • omg, i was obsessed with this cartoon when i was little.... i thought i'd never see it again!!!

  • Narrator: So that seals could be safe forever from their most terrible enemy.

    Me: Polar Bears?

    Narrator: Man

    Me: oh...

  • @limbdarkening

    Me: Obviously man.

  • @limbdarkening Well, I guess because polar bears will eat a few, but humans take as many as will fill a factory, not just a bear's stomach. Didn't they used to toss the flesh too, like with the bison hides? Unsure.

  • @limbdarkening Sharks eat them, too. :(

  • @TeamVoldemort666 Actually sharks don't eat many seals, neither do Polar Bears.

Orcas eat quite a lot but nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing compares to the slaughter that they revieve from man.

  • @IdiotsRUsLtd

Not all orcas eat seals, it depends on what clan of orcas there are really.

They are quite more complex, as their clan and families.

  • @Thorobred4ever The orca pods that "stay" generally don't feed on any marine mammals.

It's the "traveling" orcas that do.

  • OMG when he is crying in the water it is soooooooooooooooooooo cute!

  • @karshaforever I know rite? AWWWWW~!!!

  • I like Beethoven's 6th (Pastoral)

  • This is the BEST cartoon EVER! Loved this as a child!!!

  • That terrified chittering sound that he makes after his dad roars at him has got to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen XD

  • that leader seal, seacath I think it is? looks like a bulldog

  • is it me or does this look like dr.sues made this

  • i have not seen this in a decade, thank you so much for uploading!

  • Oh my goodness I have the VHS of this at my grandmothers.

  • I love this movie! Rikki Tikki Tavi is another great one.

  • lol i just finished reading the book of this XD

  • I had all but forgotten this cartoon! One of the favorites from my very early childhood...

  • Wait a minute, doesn't the first part of the video has a song from Fantasia?

  • @amm019 It's from a pastoral piece by Beethoven, his 6th symphony.

  • This is actually beautiful <3

  • Please don't hold the way SeaCatch talks to his wife against him. He's been fasting for four months and his body is pumped full of testosterone and adrenaline from fighting every young upstart bull who thinks he can take his spot on the beach.

  • Hmph. Man isn't the only enemy of seals. Polar Bears eat them, too.

  • @Flameclaw123 But there is a difference between normal predation and hunting.

  • @CobraCoyote While this is true, I'm fairly certain that it only states man in the video, which I find a little presumptuous and possibly even offensive to hunters who hunt humanely.

  • @Flameclaw123 Also true. But only those that round up seals or other animals in droves are truly enemies. Those that hunt humanly and within limits I believe don't fall under that.

  • So I just noticed that the 'seals' are actually drawn to look like sea lions.

...Minor detail, but now it's going to bug me.

  • @wolfgirl44 They are FurSeals, which is a type of sea lion.

  • @CobraCoyote ...So they are! How silly of me. =D

  • "Nothing like that ever happened on my side of the family" Bahahahaa!

  • lol yip yip yip!!!RAAAWWWWWWRRR !!!!!OH SHIT MOMMY

  • Kotick is SO cute.

  • Whoa...I remember watching this movie. It feels like forever ago.

  • I loved this book so much as a child. I still have my copy today!

  • Great story! :)

  • This was my fave when I was a little girl. I made my mom rent it from Mr Video at least twice a week!! Loce..

  • aaa me encantan las focas.... saben re-bien en estofado...

  • Descubri una de mis comiquitas de la infancia

  • 7:26 - same music as Fantasia!!

  • I used to watch this like everyday. Ahhh, memories.

  • Love the artwork.

  • Are they harp seals?

  • Who voices Matkah?

  • To think this is a metaphor for Zionism.

  • have you ever noticed now many times chuck breaks the 4th wall just by having the characters look at you?

they really are communicating with you.. but I dont know if I like it.

  • @karnella 4th wall? whats that

  • @supermanu40

4th wall is the real world or the audience. Every time a character looks strait at the screen and act like there is some one there watching, that is breaking the fourth wall.

  • Haha the Bugs Bunny look at 4:51 must be a Chuck Jones trademark.

  • Seal Mother: "You're a wonderful husband, and father too."

    Could've fooled me, lady!

  • @Amalockh1 Chuck Jones isn't as good as Don Bluth, HE is the greatest animator of all history.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, I was probably about six when I last saw this movie. It's been a long time, and this movie was a good memory. Thanks for the upload!

  • cuter than rikki tikki tavi thats for sure!!!

  • @TheFunnysmile123 omg i forgot about rikki tikki...i used to looove that movie.

  • That music is from the Pastoral Symphony.

  • CUTE!

  • Chuck Jones was such a great artist!

  • I just love Chuck Jones....I can always identify his work, just from his animation style-he is one of the most profound animators in my opinion-his work had such an original nuance to it, that set it apart from the 'norm'

I have always thought that a white seal pup is one of the cutest, most innocent looking things in the whole world.... :)

  • I like the part with the seals

  • lol the expressions are priceless.

  • I think it's outrageously funny when Kotig is swept out to sea, is rescued by his mother, and keeps on crying, even after he's safe. Just unti lhe realizes that he's fine, then he's all happy again.

  • wow i remember this! when I was like 5 years old thanks so much for posting!

  • I always loved this movie when I was a little girl. It was just so darn cute.

  • 700 ponds??!!

    HOly sh!t!!

almost as much as my mum weighs XP

  • i looooove this movie!!!!! childhood favourite! chuck jones is amazing and i love roddy mc dowall's narration. oh! and the music!!!!! musn't forget the beautiful music! thank you!

  • 700 ponds! that's to heavy, loose some weight man!

  • HOLY SHIT!!!! IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOREVERRRRR!!! i couldn't remember the title!!!! omg, i'm so happy right now!!! ^-^

  • I wonder, if a seal were to see Jesus Christ, would they still think he was there to hurt them, or would they miraculously realize he is there to love and care them?

My opinion is yes. whats yours?

  • Those sea lions looked like lions, and kangaroos.

  • I like how this film raised public awareness about seal clubbers

  • ok for starter the white seal is adorably cute.i love how his mum keeps rolling her eye's to the screen too

  • I use the see this and Riki Tiki Tavi on nickoloodeon. I miss those days.

  • i wonder, how long can the seal and walrus hold their breath underwater?

  • 3:35 "NEVER SUCH A THING AS A...0.- WHITE SEAL" XD can't stop laughing!

  • screw you narrator for saying that the seal belongs to the sea when you know they don't!

  • i watched this when i was in school in kindergarden.

  • I admit it. I started crying when Kotick fell in the water and couldn't swim

  • zomg me too xD glad to see i wasnt the only one~

  • The adorable killed me at 3:51

  • pretty much the seal is originally land mammal, therefore swimming is just only an aid for seals, like the penguins.

  • Oh shit I'm 4 years old again

  • yeah same here shit we used to watch this stuff all the time in second grade

  • @onehundreddollars Me too.............:')

  • @onehundreddollars same here

  • correct me if im wrong, but is his name Khotek?

  • The book says its Kotick but I don't know the pronounciation.

  • another amazing movie that has never been heard before!

  • Is it me or does Matkah have cleavage? Oh, Chuck Jones, you naughty boy!

In all seriousness, though, this is good animation. I personally prefer Rikki Tikki Tavi to this, but this is definitely one of my favorite pieces of his work.

  • Rikki Tikki Tavi is soooo adorable!

  • so cute!

  • wow it's been sooo long since i've seen this!

  • I love it

  • This is adorable!

  • You gotta love Chuck Jones animation

  • 10 bucks bets tht the creator of happy feet got his idea from this

  • I loved this movie when I was a kid!

  • Me too.

  • Northern fur seals are very different from harp seals.

So I don't know why this discussion came up. White fur seals are uncommon, but all harp seals are born white. Harp seals are still being harvested.

  • Did anybody else watch this as part of the "Children's Theatre" television series? I don't know it it was specific to my area, but I remember all three Jungle Book stories airing on KTVU in the early 1980s. I've just uploaded the theme song for that show, in case anyone's interested.

  • I love how Matak keeps doing those little looks to the camera like 'ain't he just cute, folks'?

  • ADORABLE! I love when he runs terrified of pops XD

  • They're descriminating against him due to his blue eyes!

  • You were expecting him to be an "albino" completely?

  • Albinos often have blue or slate-gray eyes, not just pink. Or they only appear pink at certain angles. The pink is due to lack of pigment to hide the red blood vessels in the eye. But sometimes there's just enough pigment to make the eyes blue or gray, but if the light goes through then the pupil appears pink sometimes.

  • Chuck Jones is the greatest animator of all the history.

  • @Amalockh1 I wonder if Warner Bros. made this. Jones did work extensively for and with them for a long time.

  • @Amalockh1 yep!

lol when i read the firt word you typed i thought it was another crappy chuk norris spam >.> oh crap now im the one posting spam >.> i hate myself >.<

  • loved this book when I was a kid

  • Wow I remember this.... I rented a VHS from the library when I was 8.

Sadly seals still get killed for their fur in Canada - by off-season fishermen with no heart. Boycott Canadian seafood, stop the seal hunt (and if ur Canadian, don't feel discriminated - buy foreign seafood).

  • No thanks. I think it's hypocritical to condemn the seal hunt unless you're a vegetarian. The average commercial slaughterhouse is less humane than the seal hunt. Those who participate in the seal hunt are typically individuals of a low socioeconomic status, they are doing what they can to make ends meet. Seals may be cuddly, but they're not endangered so I don't see why it's any more wrong to kill them than any other animal, assuming all steps are taken to ensure it is done humanely.

  • Seals don't put meat on the table. They account for less than 3% of the Canacian fisheries' income.

If you are so concerned about these 'poor' sealers, ask Canada's gov't why millionaires pay 50 grand for a seal coat but the sealer gets maybe $10. It's all corporate cronyism.

I don't have a problem with a HUMANE seal hunt, the problem is the Canadian fisheries don't do that! They don't tranquilize seals, they club them or skin them alive in front of their mothers. The footage doesn't lie.

  • Not only is it not humane. It is not sustainable. They kill and mortally wound far more seals than they "harvest."

If they could do humanely and sustainably, I'd be in favor of it. Those poor fishermen don't get many breaks.

  • Don't be a tool, because you are trying to condemn fishermen who did not do anything all because some animal you thought was cute got killed. I am not even form canada, in fact, fuck canada, but that was such a line in petty bullshit that it made me sick.

  • to me it makes a pair with 'rikki tikki tavi". thank you for posting it !

et la VO ne gache rien ;)

  • Haha the other seal's face at 2:01 :]

  • I loved this cartoon classicsince I was little. It does bring back memories.

  • wat with the face.

  • i love the clasics

  • lol goord boy dayrday! (good bye daddy)

  • I have red this story when I was 6.

  • OMG. I haven't seen this in so long! It was one of my favoritees growing up, right next to Rikitiki Tavi and The Last Unicorn!

The hunters in this gave me nightmares though, *shudders* @_@ so creepy!

  • We must have been watching the same things; I have those exact memories of my childhood!

  • When she shoved him in the water I about melted. He was all "/flail O_____O hOMG, I'll die!"

  • LOL *arror*

    ROOOOOAAAR

    *aoohoo arooo!!*

  • One of my favorite movies as a child. Thanks for uploading. (:

  • waitaminute! why did animators give them ear flaps....? T_T

  • They may call them seals, but they actually animated sea lions.

  • Oh yes I see what you mean they made two mistakes

  • i used to watch this movieeeee ^_^ yay!! cute seal baby...

  • He is so cute! Love it!

  • he's so cute!!!

  • I haven't seen this since I was like six. I still remember watching it in our classroom.

  • Pastoral symphony ftw!
