  • The physics library you used, can it be used for a third person game?

  • "open the door silently" im to worried to even bother, SMASH open the door and just leg it!

  • I like it. But Myst IV did this first!

  • @YouFightLikeACow well, it wasn't as expansive as the demo in this video

  • Seriously, Penumbra and Amnesia have best physics.. Why can't other games use this sorta stuff?

  • @nekocekoBiH You've never heard of Cellfactor obviously.

(Not the shitty Console version, the PC one).

  • @nekocekoBiH Elder Scrolls Oblivion does..

  • @LegendsOfShadow I never said only Penumbra and Amnesia have these sort of physics. But 99% of games don't.

  • @nekocekoBiH yeah it blows my mind, why cant call of duty utilize these physics, send a complaint to the companies

  • nevermind... just saw another vid ^^

  • i have an important question... how do you "kill" enemies?

  • @flumi94 with FIRE!

  • This game has the best interaction of physics i have seen in ANY game period; even half life and crysis have nothing on this.

  • This is how physics are supposed to be used in games. Nowadays good physics are expected of every game, but none of them really utilizes them, it's just for looks. Penumbra has the best use of physics in any game out there, simply because you interact with it constantly. It's such a waste. Wasn't the interaction with realistic physics big part of the reason why Half-Life 2 was so breath taking?

  • awesomeness! especially since this is open source now :D

  • i didn't like how the dynamite didn't harm any of the materials around its explosion

  • Shut the fuck up morons. This game isnt like half life 2 in any way, shape or form. Half life 2 didnt fucking INVENT physics in games.

  • @MrGoodDInner

They did, thank you for your ignorance.

  • @HTFDUDEHTF You have got to be the most poorly disguised troll ever.

  • @prasee

    I don't know how i got a life then.

    Or even was born.

  • Very nice, as im doing my own engine, i think this is a very good example of using physics for game machanics and some things like where you can use the mouse to interact with the world, i have never seen this before

  • half life 2 is a doom-ripoff then i guess? every egoshooter would be somehow a ripoff, i mean, that's what you're saying ^^

  • The graphics look awesome definintly ahead of their time. The physics engine reminded me of Source engine used by steam.

  • WOW so cool {NOT!} pthff like hl2

  • @mrmultipoop hl2 ideas weren't their own. That doesn't matter if it's done well and Penumbra is done really well.

  • This game has nothing att all to do with have life to..they arent even close to beng comparable so what are u saying

  • @mrmultipoop you meen like the Jurassic park trespasser physics that valve pretty much used in hl2.

  • FRIGGIN AMAZING!!

  • Yea realistic.. tossing dynamite at wood without breaking it...

  • @PabloHedning

take a look at digital moluecular matter you idiot...

  • I play this with no lag on my school bought laptop 0o

Guess the laptop works fine, then xD

Just recently bought the game on steam! =D

  • i bought it but i need to upgrade or buy a new graphic gard, wuaaa!

  • BIG WORDS THEY HURT THEY HURT!

  • This game is amazing. I've just bought it!

  • he kinda sounds like RED XD

  • he might of been the voice acter of red hey hg2708 is it true? and also at the map with generator the dogs there they cant attack you on high places like those bars that stick out in the wall XD

  • Comment removed

  • reacts very realisticly ?

the wood would not have been shattered or at least have st on fire :S

  • Notice this video is from year 2006, almost 3 years ago. Naturally it doesn't come up to the realism of newer games.

  • WOHOO!!!! I LOVE UR GAME! got them today :D only overture and black plauge :/ PLEASE! make more of penumbra :(

  • I need a new computer :P!!

  • I will get the game ! XD

  • he sound swedish to me

  • thats because he is -_-

  • This PWNS (and im not happy to admit it)

    the source engine

  • Not really. At least when a wooden object is subject to explosion it breaks into realistic pieces.

  • I agree with the wood part, but you have to note that the Source Engine doesn't break things realistically. It only breaks them into specified gib objects, rather than dynamically (which hopefully, Penumbra will add).

  • i got u both beat beat with nvidias physx engine it renders on the graphics card

  • To katchison:

It's spelled "retarded" by the way.

Gameplay and story is what makes a good game not if the wood breaks when dynamite explodes by it...

  • Dynamite is alot stronger than that and the wood didnt break.

  • You need the wood to jump back onto the shelves; so they made it unbreakable.

  • So you would make way for realism over gameplay? Smart idea.

  • How do the physics "suck ass?" If you've ever moved something from one point and just one point, this game is pretty close to as acurate as we are going to get. Also, don't forget that this game is two years old. Not every game stadns the test of time.

  • There is a difference between physics and just making things movable objects. This cannot be called physics because the wood didnt break and the metal didnt dent etc etc. I mean this is pretty much the same physics hl2.exe uses. Except wood breaks... But aside to that its about the same... and hl2 'physics' were kinda crappy too... anything that ive seen that is actually physics is the havok engine.

  • Dude, physics are related to making movable objects. The wood didn't break due to the fact that it is needed to get out of the room. As I've said earlier, game developers have to be smart in choosing how to make a game, obviously here they sacrificed realism for gameplay. Also, you forget that this is a DATED game. This game is two years old! In two years, Crysis will look like solitare on top-of-the-line computers. Technology moves fowards in leaps and bounds. Also, Half-Life is over three y.o.

  • The physics demonstration is in-game, not just a simple tech demo. And what could not break under the strength of dynamite? Metal would burst, wood will splinter, and iron would cave. Also, don't forget what kind of enviroment this game is in, what could you find in an underground garage storeroom that wouldn't break from dynamite? Age is also a relevant factor for games. If you took a five year old game and compared the engine to a new game, it would be vastly underwhelming.

  • Just make some kind of metal boxes there are many metals and im sure someone would think it more realistic than wood not breaking.

Im just saying this game isnt that old its current gen

    and wood should break.

  • Let's see you do better, hmm? WITHOUT animation..

  • Im not the one saying that my shitty physics engine is realistic

  • if it was more fictional there would be guns everywhere in the game and the monsters would walk through walls. BUT since it isn't things are not gonna be unbreakable.

  • Its realistic because the 'monsters' dont walk through the walls?

  • Wow.

  • well yea but what would really happen to that room if u threw a goddamn dynamite toob in there !?!?!

  • Toribash is swedish, THIS is swedish... They're not so bad I thought! :P

  • it costs alot of money... the grapchic of doom 3 is good even its old

  • the graphics are very good...do you think you could you make a game with better graphics than that?

  • This is a great game, with great physics. Not all game have physics, and even less have this good of them. There are good constraints, and the objects can interact with particles. Also, this game is very fun, which matters more. It takes alot of people to create an engine. You keep on reffering to "NextGen" to act like you know something, when you really don't.

  • Retard!

  • Retard!

  • Double posting and you call me a retard. Do you know what irony is?

  • Who cares if he double posted? It's not like we are on some fucking forums or any shit like that! And if you COULD make a better game than that, have me struck by lightning. And it's really pathetic that you even think that could could make a game better, and at the least equal. Twat.

  • Clearly we have a high level programer here who has nothing better to do then criticise other professional programers' hard work on Youtube.

    Fail even harder

  • If no one criticized (the correct way to spell that word by the way) anyones work, then nothing would improve. Think about it. Learn to take constructive criticism. Please continue to prove how ignorant Youtube members are.

  • The word criticise is spelled correctly. Obviously you've never heard of other spelling of certain words. (Color = Colour, Armor = Armour, etc.)

You hold yourself above others, yet you fail to realise the irony of the situation. You are a Youtube member. You call Youtube members "ignorant" therefore you yourself are ignorant. Logically, you must be ignorant in this field as well.

  • Dude, it's like the word Armour, Colour, Favourite. It's just an English spelling of it rather than an American spelling of it.

  • @wizard924 swedish accent -.-

  • how to turn on generator what i need to do i find batery and fuse and put it in but i cant

    turn on generator!!!!

    PLEASE HELLLP!!!!!!!!!!!

  • there's a metal box somewhere near the generator. and also a really deep pit. push the box down the pit. and it'll open revealing the fuse, i think. it's been some time since i played it.

  • thx

  • only thing what swedish can do... HORROR GAMESS!

I'm Finnish and Bugbear is the best!

  • lol not really, just look at world in conflict thats a swedish game ^^

  • And a hell of a game at that.

  • to those who somehow dont fucking get it, this video is a physics demonstration. he's supposed to show the little details such as stuff moving inside a drawer, because it shows how detailed the physics are. and if you want a gameplay video, look for a video saying maybe... oh, i dont know, gameplay demonstration? or maybe ANYTHING EXCEPT FOR PHYSICS DEMONSTRATION. FFS!

  • This game looks pretty. But when he says "realistically", does he mean wood not being damage by dynamite? And dynamite explosion not harming someone 5 meters away? ...

  • Bro, its a game realax

  • yeah, that's what i was thinking. where's the real time fracturing?

  • whahaha! i hear the swedish-english here. sounds so funny. good game, to be made by swedish. i'm norwegian btw :D

  • Don't be so single-minded! Lots of people like this sort of stuff, and there are videos showcasing the game's gameplay. If you don't like the technicalities, don't watch the video, it's that simple.

  • Ive got beef jerky. Lol

  • wow, dynamite explodes, "objects react realistically", means, that the indestructable wooden crates don't break. Makes sense.

  • This guy elaborates too much on little insignificant things that have been done to death in videogames.

"You can open drawers and there are objects inside",

    wow, very impressive.

  • What if there is a key to a door inside of a drawer?

  • just played demo wkd man

  • Holy crap. There should be more games like this.

  • nice

  • hl2 garrymod idea

  • He's probably making more money than you ever will.

  • Actually in the Penumbra: Overture playable demo that they have out now, you can smash wooden barrels with a hammer and they break apart into pieces. I dunno why they insist on making dynamite so crummy, or maybe it's just that those objects in the vid are invincible, or something. Whatevah.

  • WOW!! that wood thing is kinda unrealistic i guess they don't have any gibs in this game oh well that bucket thing kinda made me go to the bathroom in my pants but i cleaned it up don't worry. mmmmm...shintaka9009 haveses beef jerky??

  • i love when he says 'eeveryone loves explooossions'

  • thats cool :) im studing game graphic design and we are doing similar work with game phyics :) i would love to work on something like this soon :)

  • He's got beef jerky? *Kills and jacks*

  • I love this game I can't wait for it! :D

  • Looks great... If I had one pet peeve, it would be how he commented on the "realistic" reaction of the wood when it bounced a few inches and stayed completely intact after being rigged with DYNAMITE!

    Other than that, looking good!

  • mmmm beef jerky
