This is how physics are supposed to be used in games. Nowadays good physics are expected of every game, but none of them really utilizes them, it's just for looks. Penumbra has the best use of physics in any game out there, simply because you interact with it constantly. It's such a waste. Wasn't the interaction with realistic physics big part of the reason why Half-Life 2 was so breath taking?
Very nice, as im doing my own engine, i think this is a very good example of using physics for game machanics and some things like where you can use the mouse to interact with the world, i have never seen this before
he might of been the voice acter of red hey hg2708 is it true? and also at the map with generator the dogs there they cant attack you on high places like those bars that stick out in the wall XD
I agree with the wood part, but you have to note that the Source Engine doesn't break things realistically. It only breaks them into specified gib objects, rather than dynamically (which hopefully, Penumbra will add).

Well if your making a video demonstration on your physics egine and it sucks ass. The physics in this game arnt that great. Its not realistic as materials... it has an object system so you can move alot of thing but they dont react like they would in real life...
How do the physics "suck ass?" If you've ever moved something from one point and just one point, this game is pretty close to as acurate as we are going to get. Also, don't forget that this game is two years old. Not every game stadns the test of time.
There is a difference between physics and just making things movable objects. This cannot be called physics because the wood didnt break and the metal didnt dent etc etc. I mean this is pretty much the same physics hl2.exe uses. Except wood breaks... But aside to that its about the same... and hl2 'physics' were kinda crappy too... anything that ive seen that is actually physics is the havok engine.
Dude, physics are related to making movable objects. The wood didn't break due to the fact that it is needed to get out of the room. As I've said earlier, game developers have to be smart in choosing how to make a game, obviously here they sacrificed realism for gameplay. Also, you forget that this is a DATED game. This game is two years old! In two years, Crysis will look like solitare on top-of-the-line computers. Technology moves fowards in leaps and bounds. Also, Half-Life is over three y.o.

I dont care how old this is... If your going to show off a physics system your looking retarted if dynamite does break wood...
And if you need certain objects to progress and you need to make them unbreakable then Use something that the player wouldnt have the means to destroy in real life.
The physics demonstration is in-game, not just a simple tech demo. And what could not break under the strength of dynamite? Metal would burst, wood will splinter, and iron would cave. Also, don't forget what kind of enviroment this game is in, what could you find in an underground garage storeroom that wouldn't break from dynamite? Age is also a relevant factor for games. If you took a five year old game and compared the engine to a new game, it would be vastly underwhelming.
if it was more fictional there would be guns everywhere in the game and the monsters would walk through walls. BUT since it isn't things are not gonna be unbreakable.

"All reacts realisticly." Dude I gotta make my house out of that wood there.
Seriously, this looked good last year, but with the recent NextGen games, this just doesn't cut it. I know it sucks to say it, but I'd rather they re-build the physics and graphics to the NextGen builds.

Given the next gen graphics, clearly I could. This is impressive, but it's NOT rocket science. Why do you think every game out there, even the crap ones, have physics equal to this game in every way. I'm happy these people are proud of their game, but don't say it's the best when it clearly isn't.
This is a great game, with great physics. Not all game have physics, and even less have this good of them. There are good constraints, and the objects can interact with particles. Also, this game is very fun, which matters more. It takes alot of people to create an engine. You keep on reffering to "NextGen" to act like you know something, when you really don't.
