After thinking A LOT about this, Catholicism shouldn't be against them at all [not that I was a bigot before or anything of the sort]. If gays marry, they do it for love and unity. The fact that they can't procreate is due to biology, so nothing wrong with that. Even if they can't procreate, they still love each other. However, in current Catholic view, gay marriage is bad because of that biological inability. If applied to steril people, this current belief falls apart...

While the union of two gays is not a 'marriage' in the sacramental sense, that does not mean that God forbids or does not bless them.
This is absolutely outrageous. I'm a homosexual Catholic, and I disagree with the church completely on this teaching. But even if it were wrong, it's just a sin of chastity just like two heterosexuals who have premarital sex or have children outside of marriage. Some people are homosexuals because of natural causes, others because of social conditioning. In both cases it's possible to get out of it through a good use of psycology and above all prayer. I've heard of many homosexuals who stopped being so after their convertion.

I don't know if it's true of *all* Catholic schools, but a lot of them are really competitive and have good academics so they admit all kinds of kids. I guess the students have to take religion classes, but they can still be Baptist or Muslim or whatever.

At least they are in SF, not sure about all across the country.

I was born and raised a catholic (attended catholic schools, graduated from a catholic high school) and was able shed the burden of religious dogma years ago. One must remember that the catholic church is governed by a bunch of hysterical virgins. I went to a catholic school from 2nd to 8th grade. As far as what i learned in grade school compared to public high school, the catholic schools curriculum was far better and I learned a lot more. it may of been a better school outside of the whole we hate gay thing, or at least thats what they thought prior to enrolling their kids.

This is absolutely outrageous. I'm a homosexual Catholic, and I disagree with the church completely on this teaching. But even if it were wrong, it's just a sin of chastity just like two heterosexuals who have premarital sex or have children outside of marriage. Some people are homosexuals because of natural causes, others because of social conditioning. In both cases it's possible to get out of it through a good use of psycology and above all prayer. I've heard of many homosexuals who stopped being so after their convertion.

I don't know if it's true of *all* Catholic schools, but a lot of them are really competitive and have good academics so they admit all kinds of kids. I would lean more to the self-defeating side. but like i said earlier, homosexuals don't consider it "defeat" if their kids grow up to be heterosexual. these parents loved their kids enough that they wanted them to get a good education, even at the expense of being taught that their own parents are an 'abomination.'

@QuartuvLarry Yeah, but a Catholic elementary school probably *isn't* going to bring up gay topics in the classroom. So maybe they felt safe sending their kid there. I have 2 gay dads and went to public school, but I do know several people with same-sex parents who went to Catholic school. Some schools and churches are actually really welcoming. At least they are in SF, not sure about all across the country.

You missed the subversion that Fr Jonathan didn't. Yes, it's too bad the kids were expelled, but do you see what the lesbos might have been attempting here? That if there's any contention with beliefs over what to teach those kids (that their guardians -only one's the parent- are wrong in their "marriage") that that might be grounds for lawsuit. Then government steps in. And then (gasp!) there goes SEPARATION of church & state. You see, NOW the establishment clause is an inconvenience.

many parents put their kids in catholic and christian private schools because they can't afford any other private schools, and they want their kids to get a private education. the fact that the church would turn away potential converts is the real story here.
those parents most likely thought their kids would get a better education by attending that school...they were willing to pay for it too...so the church is turning away money AND children...it must be the end of days ;)

I was born and raised a catholic (attended catholic schools, graduated from a catholic high school) and was able shed the burden of religious dogma years ago. One must remember that the catholic church is governed by a bunch of hysterical virgins. They've been conditioned that sex is simply for reproduction and that sex for pleasure is something to be discouraged. They view homosexualtiy as a deviant behavior. It's sad that they'd inflict this bronze age mentality out on innocent children.

I went to a catholic school from 2nd to 8th grade. As far as what i learned in grade school compared to public high school, the catholic schools curriculum was far better and I learned a lot more. it may of been a better school outside of the whole we hate gay thing, or at least thats what they thought prior to enrolling their kids.

Couldnt he have just said the story of Adam and Eve is symbolic? I mean it's clearly not historical, I feel like looking at it symbolically is harmless.
Secondly, I think we must see priests as individuals and not as soldiers of the pope. Each priest has different thoughts, and they don't always think in line with the pope. I have had a priest say that they didnt think alienating gays was correct.
