I always liked The Damned because even though they maintained an individualistic and badass image, they werent afraid to step out of their own boundries as a punk rock band.
MmMMM being hammered on champagne and mango juice balinis and getting all teary eyed listening to The Damned on full blast...fucking priceless.!!...probably the best band in the world.

@ArtisDaSpoonman I'm sorry but they always pretty much sold out their gigs, still out there now as well. A good band, not the best punk band but worthy of praise.
@ArtisDaSpoonman , That has got to be one of the most ridiculous comments I've read in a long time. Gary Numan!! GARY FUCKING NEWMAN (80's Synthed SHITE) ROFL
@TheTrainRex Garbage like the Sex Pistols!!! @carlb1501 I used to listen to that album non stop when I was a kid. They were a gimmick. They got payed to be assholes because it was "punk" and it made money. They ruined punk rock. They are the reason why it's all about getting drunk and being an asshole in a leather jacket.
@randybullcow he wrote it for Marc Nolan the milkman who gave him jellybabies. Sadly, after biting off the heads of the jellybabies, Marc Nolan became deeply distrubed and went onto to become a corporate lawyer and then MTV music critic.
It still amazes me every time I hear this or 'Anarchy In The Uk' or 'Ever Fallen In Love...' or 'Tommy Gun' or loads and loads more how much fresher, angrier, relevant, exciting, ALIVE this music sounds than what is being produced thirty years later. Thank god I was 18 then and not now!!!

@BLUEANDY2525 or 'going underground" and "in the city" - yeah i agree im younger but this was the best era for britsh music outside of the 60s! The british bands now are so overhyped and ultimately lifeless in comparison!
the intro to this is very similar to the intro to "teen age riot" by sonic youth. The part at 1:15 even seems to have a very similar chord progression and tempo.
but thats mainly opinion, lots of people disagree, and if we're talking about opinions then what about the Damned covering the Doors? Very generic, nothing changed, note for note and very bland, and they went on to record Eloise....

@corneliusbabycakes yes they were all underground and some of us had to get to work in the morning. I lost count of the times that darn capt sensible kept on puking into my laptop. The fiend.
First of all: sorry, I didn't mean to delete the commet, where you said Sensible was the bassist, I made a mistake, and only wanted to reply.
Now to the thing: Sensible was the bassist until the split in 1978. From the reformation in the same year, he became and still is guitarist (although there were periods, where he did not play in The Damned).
trak of my youth remember kicking m8 s and pogoing in my pj how ard must i of looked in my p.j swith my hair stuck up with margarine errrr great daze thou !!!

Why?

Either hes high, or just being overly dramatic

First of all: sorry, I didn't mean to delete the commet, where you said Sensible was the bassist, I made a mistake, and only wanted to reply.
Now to the thing: Sensible was the bassist until the split in 1978. From the reformation in the same year, he became and still is guitarist (although there were periods, where he did not play in The Damned).

I love how the song starts off very subdued and lugubrious but then explodes with an unrestrained burst of energy. Thanks for posting both parts of it!

Only the Captain could pull that off.
