  • pt1 got me into the damned...my big brother had it playing on a tape recorder decades ago,the instant i heard it i said ``i like that, who is it?``. ``The Damned,he said``..since then the dimmed, the doomed, the damned have been with me,no matter where i go...one other song had the same affect on me,in the last 6-7 years, but thats a different matter, its not a damned song..

  • going to see them 02 academy newcastle with my dad :D 18 year old lad seeing these ! i might be the youngest lad there haha !

  • and everybody smashing things up.......perfect memories, perfect conserts,

  • full blast, get it out, best band ever !

  • I always liked The Damned because even though they maintained an individualistic and badass image, they werent afraid to step out of their own boundries as a punk rock band.

  • @goneshootin22 i whole heartedly agree and well put. I am just glad i got to see them over the years live :) best live performers live by far.

  • bang on the money

  • in the era of disco there was three bands that saved the world from CRAP...The Clash, The Ramones and THE DAMNED!!!! FUCK YEAH!! WAHT A SONG!!

  • Never a dull moment with the Damned LIVE, energy, fun and class all in 90 mins of chaos

  • MmMMM being hammered on champagne and mango juice balinis and getting all teary eyed listening to The Damned on full blast...fucking priceless.!!...probably the best band in the world.

  • ¡¡¡machácalo!!!

  • i like this when i was young best song going hu but when i playd it when i found it was on youtube me phone broke that was weaird

  • My absolute favourite Damned song, these were my favourite band when I was 15, oh the memories.

  • fantastic group ,i was with them in various concerts ,1981,was fantastic for me,READING,LEEDS,LONDON,

  • @ArtisDaSpoonman yeah those other bands were good in there own way fuck you artis wannabe i bet you still live at home with mom faggot

  • Its not the smashing thats fun.... it's the anticipation.

The damned always were too talented to be punks.

  • only other song i know with a part 1 and 2 is car trouble by the ants...both great songs...but FUCK ME ...SMASH IT UP...YOU CAN KEEP YOUR KHRISNA BURGERS AND YOUR BLOW WAVE HAIR STYLES

  • @MsBabster

Thought it was " Glastonbury Hippies and your blow wave etc"... Captains a secret hippy though, real ale drinking, vegetarian, early pink floyd loving tainspotter...but a bloody great guitar player !

  • @Fireperv not really too secret hippies though, they did cover Love's 'Alone again or" after all.

  • @ArtisDaSpoonman Really? So did Boney M but then theres no accounting for taste

  • Comment removed

  • Gah. I LOVE the beggining. Well, I love all of it, really. xD

  • @ArtisDaSpoonman

    Taff-66

Sorry mate but you,re talking out of your arse.I,ll give you credit to think you,re kicking up dust in the 70's but to use Gary Numan in the same context as The Damned can only be down to narrow mindedness or you locked your self in you bedroom spanking your self till your deaf.

They are and still one of the greats, up there with the Dead Kennedys..S.L.F..

I suggest listen to the Black Album with Curtain Call & realise why they,re still touring with "no fan base",

  • I thought the clash were just art school boys

    I mean they were OK

  • Is it only me who expects Neil Youngs Rocking in the free world to come in at 1:34??

  • THE BAND'S FINEST MOMENT IT SHOULD REACHED NO.1 IN THE CHARTS!

NO JUSTICE IN THE BRITISH MUSIC INDUSTRY!

  • @kink66 you are right,I would say in the world music industry no justice.

  • @ArtisDaSpoonman I'm sorry but they always pretty much sold out their gigs, still out there now as well. A good band, not the best punk band but worthy of praise.

  • @ArtisDaSpoonman GARY NEWMAN!!! GARY FUCKING NEWMAN you aving a girraffe lad. keep taking the pills young man, ROFL

  • @ArtisDaSpoonman , That has got to be one of the most ridiculous comments I've read in a long time. Gary Numan!! GARY FUCKING NEWMAN (80's Synthed SHITE) ROFL

  • @BritishNoblePerson ...i'm glad im not alone!! i nearly fell off my chair at that one!! lol

  • @ArtisDaSpoonman How can you even start to compare this garbage to the Sex Pistols.

  • @RestlessVamp69 You mean how can you even start to compare garbage like the Sex Pistols to an amazing band like this.

  • @TheTrainRex Garbage like the Sex Pistols!!! Are you on drugs, the Sex Pistols stand as one of the greatest bands of all time, I loved the camp of the Damned and the politics of the Clash but the Pistols truly are one of the greatest bands ever, have you listened to the Bollocks album, it stands as a testimont to that band.

  • @carlb1501 I used to listen to that album non stop when I was a kid. They were a gimmick. They got payed to be assholes because it was "punk" and it made money. They ruined punk rock. They are the reason why it's all about getting drunk and being an asshole in a leather jacket.

  • @ArtisDaSpoonman ....and the point is?

  • @ArtisDaSpoonman Record producers certainly didn't think so.

The Damned were the first british 'punk' act to release a single.

  • @ArtisDaSpoonman Don't be silly.

Gary 'Top Of The Pops' Numan FFS.

  • @ArtisDaSpoonman It doesn't mean they were worse, than those bands. ;)

  • I heard that Captain Sensible wrote this especially for Marc Bolan after he heard that Marc had died, can anybody comfirm this?

  • @randybullcow he wrote it for Marc Nolan the milkman who gave him jellybabies. Sadly, after biting off the heads of the jellybabies, Marc Nolan became deeply distrubed and went onto to become a corporate lawyer and then MTV music critic.

  • sensible was a huge hendricks fan and it shows, he's a very underated axeman

  • Smashing!

  • Who are you, does "The Damned" know this,. you did a great job. contact me.

  • I don't give a fuck if the video is "High REZ" or not this video and song kicks ass on it's own merits.

  • It still amazes me every time I hear this or 'Anarchy In The Uk' or 'Ever Fallen In Love...' or 'Tommy Gun' or loads and loads more how much fresher, angrier, relevant, exciting, ALIVE this music sounds than what is being produced thirty years later. Thank god I was 18 then and not now!!!

  • @BLUEANDY2525 or 'going underground" and "in the city" - yeah i agree im younger but this was the best era for britsh music outside of the 60s! The british bands now are so overhyped and ultimately lifeless in comparison!

  • The songs just not the same for me without part 1. Thanks for posting!

  • The most amazing band!

  • the intro to this is very similar to the intro to "teen age riot" by sonic youth. The part at 1:15 even seems to have a very similar chord progression and tempo.

  • @yomiguel Its a shame sonic youth used that chord progression and tempo nearly 10 years after The Damned. They were probably fans as kids.

  • if thuis song isnt played in its entirely its blasphemy

  • Ya han pasado 32 añitos de la cancion y al escucharla es como si nos metieramos en el tunel del tiempo.

    The Damned, sencillamente geniales.

  • i deyed my hair green to this song... you need to have the whole song..then it makes sence

  • Well I'll be Damned if I don't absolutely love this song.

  • Love this song.

  • @daviddowns81

but thats mainly opinion, lots of people disagree, and if we're talking about opinions then what about the Damned covering the Doors? Very generic, nothing changed, note for note and very bland, and they went on to record Eloise....

  • Captain!.................mad as two chairs!

  • There's a bit the jam over this sound I think

  • @BearWindAppleyard Think I disagree with myself a little there, he he

  • walked down the isle to ramones,,wanna be sedated..still married 23 years

  • that cheers me up :D

  • hehe nice!! my wife and i walked away from the isle after the ceremony to what a wonderful world - joey ramone :D

  • @Cheesehog1984

You walked away from the isle? How can you walk away from an island? You and your wife must be Jesus.

  • @MsBabster I want "Love Will Tear Us Apart" -Joy Division

  • @troke999

Try Transmission played by Dead men Walking on the Graveyard Smashes album, Captain Sensible, Slim Jim Phantom, Kirk Brandon and Mike Peters, terrific covers of there own songs and a few others including the Joy Div tune.

  • Walking down the isle to part 1 looped: pretty cool.

    Divorce: not so cool.

    oh well?!

  • Your story made me chuckle I'm sorry.

I guess it was the way you told it.

  • Funny. Surely the wedding was worth it though, eh?

(accidently gave you a thumbs down, so ignore that)

  • the offspring es solo un bastardo comersiante de mierda pop punk stupid

  • No way.

  • I think if you combined both it would turn into the greatest verson. Keep the fun of The Damned and the hard sound of the Offspring and you got it made

  • agreed

  • I agree, i love the Offspring cover, anyone who disagree's is a faggot plain and simple.....

  • I agree lol

  • well, than get me a cock to stick up my ass.

The Offsprings very was dreadful, it was passionless regurgatation by a medicore band.

they didn't add anything new or any type of new personality into it, they just copied it note for note, vocal for vocal. Had nothing to define it as being its own entity. It was just shit. Lacked the conviction, passion and meaning, was just generic and bland, and essentiall meaningless as a result. Never forget the same band went on to record pretty fly...

  • @trojantjl get the fuck out the offspring are good but you can't top this shit

  • ray don

  • will always be a favorite

  • Certain bands just have an absolute classic in them and this is their one.

Takes me back to being a young punk lad.

  • THE DAMNED FINEST MOMENT....!

  • Imma just lovin this all day.... I was there :) Hell yea !! Punk Rock Britain, Anarchy In The UK Today, Tropps of Tommorrow today..... no fuckers dogs body here...nor will I EVER BE.. Smash it the fuck up , and fuck the New World Order Fascist butchers !! Smash em up !! They fuckin need it and we need FREEDOM ABSOLUTE

  • You love capitalism really man!

  • Yea MAn and I thought my training in subvresion had been effective ?? How did you know I was really a Manchurian Capitalist ?? lol

  • 2:05 CUM ON

  • I guess I'll have to spend some money once again! =P thank you Rock Band for all these good songs !

  • I hope, this is a joke!

  • fourzero40, might be Johnny Rotten's account! John not being a fan of The Damned. lol

  • stole it when it came out, ho ho

  • Such a good song. One of the best punk bands.

  • A1 Gold ...

  • THE BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY OF PUNK.

Fantastic tune from a fantastic band.

Oasis, Stereophonics, Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys; all great bands, but none of them can hold a candle to The damned and other great bands of this generation, such as The Clash, The Jam, The Buzzcocks and The Sex Pistols.

Amazing to think that, with the occasional exception of The Jam and the pistols, none of the latter aforementioned bands had a top 20 hit in the UK. They were all heavily underground .

  • @corneliusbabycakes 2 points bud....the kaiser chiefs dont deserve a mention with oasis, the phonics or the arctic monkeys in my opinion anyway

and the clash had several top 20 hits in the uk.....tommy gun...bankrobber...london calling.....just off the top of my head...im sure there will be more

  • @corneliusbabycakes yes they were all underground and some of us had to get to work in the morning. I lost count of the times that darn capt sensible kept on puking into my laptop. The fiend.

  • @corneliusbabycakes What about the UK Subs?

  • @corneliusbabycakes The Damned had one if I recall. Eloise got to 3, but it was admittedly a cover.

  • What do you mean "what's wrong with the guitarist?". That's Captain Sensible ya dobber!

  • didnt lemmy play on some like the turkey song

  • Whats wrong with the guitarist?

  • Why?

  • Either hes high, or just being overly dramatic

  • First of all: sorry, I didn't mean to delete the commet, where you said Sensible was the bassist, I made a mistake, and only wanted to reply.

Now to the thing: Sensible was the bassist until the split in 1978. From the reformation in the same year, he became and still is guitarist (although there were periods, where he did not play in The Damned).

  • you're a dumbass cheese

  • Why thank you.

  • ^_^ you're welcome. nice to see someone with a sense of humor!

  • just haveing fun and getting paied for his trubble . should he just stand there and look sad

  • Comment removed

  • glad to find both parts..brings back memories.

  • nice

  • I love it all !!

  • anon

  • i love part 1.very clever mix of deep bass and atmospheric guitar.great stuff.

  • I agree. I actually like Part 1 More so than the song itslef. Though that last fade out before the song starts is superb

  • An anthem on many a chelsea away day. The bohemian rhapsoy of punk!

  • bohemian rhapsody of punk.......... that is just a perfect description of this all time classic...........well said

  • trak of my youth remember kicking m8 s and pogoing in my pj how ard must i of looked in my p.j swith my hair stuck up with margarine errrr great daze thou !!!

  • cool cool, must not forget the damned

  • who

  • Now I know where MM got his image.

  • I love how the song starts off very subdued and lugubrious but then explodes with an unrestrained burst of energy. Thanks for posting both parts of it!

  • Only the Captain could pull that off.
