FSX mission: Tutorial 10 - Helicopter takeoff and landing

I always have trouble getting my ground speed to zero. If I'm moving, I pull back but then I start going in backwards. Any advice on how to hover so I can land?

I flied this mission at least ten times because I crashed while landing in the helipad inside the fifth gate. I succeed the mission when I land safely inside the fifth gate. I take off again and crashed so I did not continue to take off again like PetterG2.

is there a good joystick with a twistable axis that is not very expensive?? i have a logitech attack 3 and it sucks! i can hardly fly a helicopter properly. please reply i would like to know about the joystic!! p.s nice flying

I use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick, it twists and will probably cost about 30 to 40 dollars at your local BestBuy. I've had it for a month or two now, still works great and I can land on the 4 helipads in this video in about 4 minutes, and I'm not that skilled, so it's definitely a good joystick. :P

i've been thinking about that joystick since you told me but i went to look it up and i have read that there are a few problems. is that true or are people making it up? let me know becaese i would like to get a new joystick soon with twist. please reply!

I can't tell you that the joystick is perfect and won't give you any problems, but I can tell you that mine is still working fine, though the small throttle lever is getting a little squeeky, lol. This is the first joystick I have owned and I'm not disappointed. I'd say that for the price, it's worth the money, and if you can get a warranty for it, then do it, because if you end up having a calibration issue, you will probably be able to replace it. Hope I helped.

Unless you buy a joystick, preferably one with a twisting action for the anti-torque, you're always going to struggle flying helicopters.

Okay, so landing a helicopter is just like a regular approach except done at a slower speed and you stop right before touchdown? Sorry, just I suck at helicopter landings and this helped me.
