I am really amazed with his improvement. Of course the run against Borussia demonstrates the quality of his dribbling skills. But what really SHOCKS me is how good his passing has become - I'll name only the latest examples: to Chamberlain against Olympiakos, to Santos against Chelsea, and to van Persie against Everton. All this makes makes me wonder - what would happen if he was playing in Arteta's position? I think it's worth trying out.
Song is able to go forward this season because Arteta allows him to do so by tracking back to cover. When Cesc was there, he had all the attacking midfield role, and Song's mission was mostly to cover for him (Cesc never tracked back very well). Now that Arteta is there, Song can go forward knowing that he is covered, and it makes a huge difference. I almost like our midfield better this year than last year! And Wilshere is coming back..!

I agree with bang2dis - Ramsey is now replacing Fabregas. Arteta is playing in Wilshere's position. Jack likes to go forward - because of that Song had to stay at the back. Arteta on the other hand prefers to stay at the centre - so now Alex has more freedom to go forward. If there was a typical DMF paying next to Song, he would be able to go forward more often - and that's what I would like to see (just once).
Indeed he was. But like I said - I only mentioned the latest examples. In my opinion his greatest assist is the one against Borussia - not because of his dribble, but because of his pass. Many people don't understand it, but this wasn't an easy pass to make. Alex had to place the ball precisely in a cirtain point in the air - away from the goalkeeper and other burussia players, and not too high, to make van Persie's job as easy as possible. He did exactly that.
The funny thing is - he started his career as a defender, Arsene moved him forward and made him a defensive midfielder, now he is becoming more of a central midfielder. I think he might end up as a striker :-)
I disagree. Arteta has more freedom - he can run back and forward. And BECAUSE of that, Song is able to go forward more often than he did last season. Jack also likes to go forward, and - unlike Arteta - he is not able to provide the defensive stability when Song goes further up front. But this will come with experience.

Not only his offensive qualities has developed, he have been great to the defensive work too, when Santos is too lazy to went back to his leftback position Song helps him with taking Santos' back position. He has also been great to fill out the midfield, amazing player.

I am really amazed with his improvement. Of course the run against Borussia demonstrates the quality of his dribbling skills. But what really SHOCKS me is how good his passing has become - I'll name only the latest examples: to Chamberlain against Olympiakos, to Santos against Chelsea, and to van Persie against Everton. All this makes makes me wonder - what would happen if he was playing in Arteta's position? I think it's worth trying out.
By the way - Great video mate.

Song is able to go forward this season because Arteta allows him to do so by tracking back to cover. When Cesc was there, he had all the attacking midfield role, and Song's mission was mostly to cover for him (Cesc never tracked back very well). Now that Arteta is there, Song can go forward knowing that he is covered, and it makes a huge difference. I almost like our midfield better this year than last year! And Wilshere is coming back..!

@charguifutbol You totally don't have a point here.Wilshere played on Arteta's position last season, not Cesc, and before that Denilson and sometimes Diaby.

@charguifutbol Yh I know Fabregas was a great player but this season we seem more like a team, everyone is willing to defend, Cesc is a better player than Arteta but Arteta is a better team player for Arsenal.

@charguifutbol At times when we defend recently its like; our Wingers play full backs and all the full backs play CB, then Song just blocks the front of the defence with Arteta defending and ready to recycle possession, while Ramsey makes himself available always so we don't lose the ball also the pace of our wingers mean they get forward so quick and are already ready to assist RvP, that draws their players out wide for Ramsey Arteta Song to assist as well as given space to RVP, its just crazy

I agree with bang2dis - Ramsey is now replacing Fabregas. Arteta is playing in Wilshere's position. Jack likes to go forward - because of that Song had to stay at the back. Arteta on the other hand prefers to stay at the centre - so now Alex has more freedom to go forward. If there was a typical DMF paying next to Song, he would be able to go forward more often - and that's what I would like to see (just once).

Indeed he was. But like I said - I only mentioned the latest examples. In my opinion his greatest assist is the one against Borussia - not because of his dribble, but because of his pass. Many people don't understand it, but this wasn't an easy pass to make. Alex had to place the ball precisely in a cirtain point in the air - away from the goalkeeper and other burussia players, and not too high, to make van Persie's job as easy as possible. He did exactly that.

The funny thing is - he started his career as a defender, Arsene moved him forward and made him a defensive midfielder, now he is becoming more of a central midfielder. I think he might end up as a striker :-)

I disagree. Arteta has more freedom - he can run back and forward. And BECAUSE of that, Song is able to go forward more often than he did last season. Jack also likes to go forward, and - unlike Arteta - he is not able to provide the defensive stability when Song goes further up front. But this will come with experience.

@NoNicknameRequired You think so? because fro what I see Arteta isn't making those sort of decisions that can differentiate a DM from AM, but yet again he's still adapting to the way how the squad plays so I don't expect to be going crazy with his attacking skills as of yet.

I DO think so. But the thing about Arteta is, that he always chooses the safe option - he does'n like to risk. But you're right - he is still adapting to the way we play. Although - because of his age - it's hard to expect him to run from box to box all the time.

What I meant was, that Song should be given more freedom to go forward. But in order to do this, there should be another good DMF playing alongside Song. Unfortunately, Coquelin and Frimpong are not experienced enough.
