  • there were two types of followers of lord vishnu, one of them had the sandal paste applied to their forehead starting from the root of the nose[i mean from between the eyes], and the other had a straight line of red colour on their forehead. these marks were to show that they believed in lord mahavishnu. To respect both of the cultures lord venkateswara has sandal paste from between his eyes and also the red line kasturi applied by devotees, and so his face appears to be covered. did i answer.
