The reconstruction period was based off reuniting the unions and adding structure. But it was a point of struggle because Southerners broke from the union and formed their own separate confederacies. In this video he talks about talk about the South a little more. He says that the South has really lost rule, because the army is occupying the South. He says that they tried to keep control by creating groups like the KKK. He says that the African Americans were kept from voting. This was an extremely dangerous thing for the African Americans because it meant that they would lose their representation in the Government.
The Union soldiers in the South protected the blacks by keeping the polls open and preventing slavery from reoccurring. This infuriated the South and ruined their dreams of a slavery gov't. Also, white vote was dominated by the black vote. The KKK tried to stop the blacks from voting. Once the soldiers were removed, poll taxes and literacy testing began, all disenfranchisement. When the blacks couldnt vote, they had no say in government so they had less protection
When the civil war ended most troops was ordered to protected the blacks when they where voting. Due to the lose in the civil war of the south, it caused an major split between the blacks and the whites. whites started an organization called the KKK in anger toward the blacks.

In Tennessee the Klu Klux Klan was establish to testify and prolong white power in the south. As government officials try to rebuild and many laws in the south were made to keep blacks from voting.
The Union Army protected the vote, but it was costly to keep the federal troops in the South. The South was frustrated because it lost the war, but they still depended upon laborers for the cotton. The white supremacy was ending and status was needed for politics and economy. Slavery gave a free man status and made the free man better than the slave so race would determine your status.
The union solders keep the polls open and made sure that people, such as the African American population, could vote. At this point, the south had lost white rule. After the south lost white rule, organizations such as the KKK established in frustration. Later, all of the voting rights that were gained in the civil war for American Americans were lost. At this time in history, status is based upon race.
The South was very angry because the dream that they had hoped for was lost ,they lost the the white man rule sorta speak. From 1890-1960 their was no black representation in legislature to represent the black man this was important. The status on every man was based upon RACE during this time.
The south was disappointed because what they hoped for didn't happen. 1890-1960 was important. Africans were removed and no longer had a sense of influence. Dr. Revis Mitchell was very informative in this clip.
At this time in the South the stuggle was just as hard as slavery. The union soiders were ment to protect people of the south. Groups were built on frustration to intimidate black voters, examples were the kkk and the regulator movement. The political deal pulled federal troops from the south. During slavery status was based on the fact of if you were free or a slave, after slavery institutionalization began. This gave the status of either black or white.
The South had many angers and frustrations. Once states were let back into the union it was alot of petty things that occurred. New acts, taxes, and literacy test just to name a few. These acts were trying to keep the blacks from fleeing the south to another portion of the United States. Reconstruction was in some since just has harsh as slavery. Institutionalized racism begins to develope.

In this video Dr. Haney is interviewing Dr. Mitchell. Dr. Mitchell is explaining how the south lost the civil war and how the union soldiers protected the black votes. He also mentioned secret socities such as the KKK and how they terrorized blacks.
White power is decreasing in the south. The KKK was an example of an organization which derived from hate. The KKK was built off of frustration. They use intimidation on black voters. There was no protection for African Americans. Blacks had to continue to use their power to vote until 1890. Their right was removed until 1960. Segregation was a result of the south not knowing how to deal with losing their power to the north.
It was not until after 1960, that African Americans were granted the right to vote. White southerners felt that they were losing power, they had already lost the war. After the war, fruastration was seen in the forms of intimidation and organizations arised from hate. The KKK was an example of an organization which derived from hate. AA's after the war faced as much of a struggle if not more. The system that arrised next was segreation. (Zeytun Ibrahim History 2020-02)
To compensate for the cost of the war and the cost of the troops that were placed in the South, poll taxes and other applications were instilled. The system that followed the war was just as harsh as slavery. There was no real union for what followed was segreation. (Selva Ibrahim History2020-02 Civil War... Dr. Rmitchell 3)
I believe Blacks were removed from the voting scene between the times of 1890 and 1960 in an effort to intimidate Blacks and strip away what little political power they had. Southerners used blacks as a scapegoat and created slavery in an effort to stay in power, as well as place blame and distract America from the true issues at hand. Blacks were "blackwalled" and discriminated against. Organizations such as the KKK were created to ensure white supremacy and control. S.Craig (Hist2020-02)
The Organzation as the KKK targeted black voters to not to vote, and made blacks frustrated by intimadation. There was no black protection.Between 1860-1900 demonstrated the importance of having the vote and excercising the vote. Blacks had some infulence on the controll of the legislature before it was tooken away. Slavery gave statues to any free man. After slavery you seen more rasiming.Nwitherspoon (History 2020-2)
It is understood that they were frustrated and so in that they tried to use intimidation to try and turn away black voters. They felt that the strong hold over the south was slipping. jhayes(hist 2020-2)
Union soldiers protected the black voters. The south lost the civil war, their dream of a lot of land and slaves had died and so has the white rule. Poll taxes , literacy tests and disfranchisment was a result due to the troops being removed. The south need someone to sharecrop; take care of the land. From 1860- 1900 we exercised our right to vote, if not we would have had no protection.

The South has lost white voter rule and through this comes organizations built on frustration. They used intimidation to keep blacks away from the polls. When the federal troops are removed the Disenfranchisement Moment comes along and makes it even more difficult and impossible for blacks to be able to vote. The experience of the blacks in the south after the Civil War demonstrates the importance of having the vote and exercising that vote.
This video was very educational. It gave very good information. The speaker had a real good point and backed it up very well. I did not know about this, therefore it was very informal.

Dr. Mitchell spoke on how freedom and equality are not synonymous (previous ingterview) and the frustrations of the south. For example the south lost the Civil War. They also lost white voter rule. Dr. Mitchell explained how a white supremacist organization was created out of frustration. This organization, the KKK, was built to intimidate black voters and discourage them not to vote. This interview was interesting and very informative.

Dr. Mitchell the department head of Fisk university explains how the civil war and the south was frustrated. It truly has lost the majority rule. Slavery gave status to a freeman which was better than slavery. Osman Baker 1130-1225 Hist 2020-08

Union soldiers being brought to the South is very important if that didnt happen I think change would come much slower. When it came to voting did these southern whites even count the African American votes ? We make the North seem like it was the good guys in all this humanity but they were just behind the laws and were not the ones directly beating the slaves, but they controled how the country's industrial worked and where slaves played their part.
