sure mac can get a virus but it's rare. never have had a vrus or trojan horse since i switched to mac in 2005. was always a hassle with window machines having to install virus protection, upgrade 4 protection ect.
3 years of Mcafee, sum total of this being £4,448.01
But when i made a computer with the Hardware they sell as the equivalent 'MAC' version, the sum total was over £16,000
Even still, i can make the computer yet cheaper because alienware is overpriced. So why would anyone in their right minds buy an apple other than the sole reason that they develop media professionally (no taking media studies doesn't count)
By macs do it differently, you mean Apple force you to buy their overpriced computers (regarding the hardware they use.) i built a PC with alienware (another overpriced computer) It had the works
an i7 hexacore processor
two 2GB AMD Radeon HD 6950 CrossfireX's
16 GB's of ram
2TB RAID 1+0 (4x 1TB, SATA 6Gb/s, 7200RPM, 32MB Cache)
A Blu Ray Rw optical drive
standard wifi and bluetooth adapter
Microsoft office professional 2010 and windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
ooh my gooodd....another apple whore. No viruses huh? look man, did you know that all macs o.s. comes with the FIREWALL set as default to OFF? How fucking crazy is that? you have to go to preferences and turn it on. any computer without a firewall can be remotely controlled. i have a 12 core brand new mac and i hacked my own mac as my mac responded to malicious codes from another Mac. yes, mac to mac. The damage was so big that i had to re-install the o.s. DON"T BE FOOLED!
lol on the e-mail from Kia... i just remembered a long time ago when i had to do a report for a school work, after finishing i noticed i had no more ink for the printer so a friend of mine said that he would print it for me no prob... next day he shows me a photo on his cellphone of my e-mail (it was all just symbols and numbers)...
Way to string a bunch of words to make a not very clear comment. There are more distributions of OSx86 than just iAtkos. Hell, there are 7 or so versions of iAtkos in itself, and from 6 and upward, the OS works on AMD processors as well. It's really not that hard, all you have to do is burn a disc, change your boot settings, put the disc in the tray and install it just like a normal Operating System. Read up on it more, because obviously you don't know much about the project at all..
weird because I just read an article that said vista was more secure than osx, said by a security expert that hacked a mac.
Mac osx is not any more secure than windows vista, just because its unix-like it does not mean its more secure.
there are mac viruses but they are very rare. the reason there aren't many viruses for mac osx is because hackers don't care about the mac because of its lower market share. linux is probably more secure than osx, and it used on many servers.
The way I see it, Windows is the tallest nail and it will be hammered (quote from Chris Pirillo). Eventually if OS X becomes more dominant, we will start to see more and more Mac viruses out there. Of course, Mac is inherently more secure, but if majority of users are using OS X then why bother attacking Windows? There would be more to gain by attacking the most dominant OS.
Mr.Lee Beard,if you know the ''parralels'' folder that makes the MAC a WINDOWS run program, does an MS DOS virus affect it if it is still turned plus the other varieties. Thanks!Ill wait for your reply.
The windows image can still be effected by viruses. Your Mac side should be fine with one caveat; if you share folders on the Mac side with Windows, a Windows virus in Parallels could affect those files.
When apple released the ad that says "macs don't get viruses" the hacking community took it upon themselves to attack only macs for a full month till apple pulled the ad from television.
Just because it is *nix based doesn't mean that it is safe from viruses. I'm waiting for apple to do it again and watch all of the little fanboys go OMGWTFBBQ?
The fact remains that there is no Mac Virus. It is conceivable that there might be one created in the future, but the reality is that Windows has far more vulnerabilities than Macs by a multiple of hundreds.
That said, Mac users should not be so arrogant as to think they are as invulnerable to disaster. Names like Titantic are etched in history because of such arrogance.
If there are no mac viruses then let me ask you this, how is it that my linux server currently has over 1200 virus definitions listed for the mac. Simple, the mac uses thousands of open source files that can be attacked via a virus. The mac also uses a FreeBSD kernel, and is vulnerable to all of the same viruses that afflict FreeBSD.
This wouldn't be a problem if apple updated their libraries more often to make these viruses harmless.
@AsktheTechies everyone just uses windows security. a very good. free. pc protector that's served me well for three years. never bsodded never had a virus.
@AsktheTechies@AsktheTechies There are plenty of viruses for Macs, I can assure you. They are less common, but they do exist. While I'm at it I'll also point out that Mac has MORE vulnerabilities than PC, there are just less viruses to take advantage of them. I've used Windows for years with no AV and I'm still fine.
@AsktheTechies to the novice user there is no difference, you really need to actually let these people know the reality instead of blinedly promoting mac

I thought MACs don't need drivers! I thought MACs don't ask you if you would like to run somthing!!
Were they lying in their PC vs MAC commercials!!??
Thank God I didn't switch to MACs before watching this video.

haha of course there are viruses for mac theres a simpson virus and im half way thro making one
jucoro5 3 years ago
The Simpson thing is a "worm" not a "virus" The difference is that a worm causes network problems but does not damage files on the users computer.

Actually, there are still no "viruses" for Macs. There are Trojan horses, but no viruses.
Although keep in mind viewers, that this could change at any moment so always be safe!
