@destroycanada I find this song to be about betrayal and how people are willing to do almost everything in order to survive. I agree on the large amount of metaphors, my favorite is the last stanza which, as I interpret it, is about how it is impossible to go through life without doing something that hurt others, hence the "stench of decay". The good about this kind of poetic music with lots of metaphors is that it is possible for people to have different understandings without being wrong.

Yup another good point as well. Why a lot of people say that emo is "whiny" music beyond the singing. Instead of being constructive and painting real anguish into beautiful music that can help other people, they choose dwell on little things and only use it as an attention getter or because they want to fit into that emo scene. And that's also why young kids flock to emo in the first place, they're whiny because most dont even know better, and looking for a place to fit in, to feel cool.

Theres nothing wrong with being emotional, in fact most people would argue that there is something wrong with rejecting emotions. The way that I see it is that emo bands play music that is overly emotional without any real reason for being that way other than getting attention. Aaron Stainthorpe and My Dying Bride make emotional music because it's what comes from their heart and soul, so the point is to connect with their music on an emotional and even spiritual level.
