Thanks. I did some research and found out that GTR is actually an upgrade for Race07. I am going to buy the full version (that consists of both GTR, and Race07) after thanksgiving.

Grid is actually part of the TOCA/Race Driver series. It's full name is Race Driver:Grid and it's the sequel to Toca Race Driver 3. It is a sim in that it simulates racing in a very realistic manner unlike NFS. Sure you can turn on driving assist just like Gran Turismo and GTR, but that doesn't make any of them any less of a sim.
Try this, play NFS (MW, Carbon, Undercover) with dirving assist on or off, then try to play Grid (assist on) the same way...

Why you want to play with driving assist? This is totally opposite to a sim, I never play a game with any type of driving assists, in games like NFS it is too much easy to win a race in the hardest mode, in other games like Grid, Dirt or GT5 it is harder but in all games AI play with "cheats" not in the same conditions like you.

You don't need high specs PC games usually scale down in the settings. Just don't turn everything up like a douche bag and it should run fine on any PC after 2004.
You may, but if you have much downloads (partly by i-net wich often is much crap and you get a lot of running programs in background) It may lag a bit, but I think its alright; depends also on what graphic settings your running.
Have you tried Nvidia 3D Vision before?? The drivers for it are like 6 GIGS big and work with so many games. It doesnt just make things pop out in layers. It gives everything a round dimension. The cockpit of the car is INSANE! Even the windshield wipers look awesome.

This vid is so full of shit ! The game doesn't look eventing like it. The games engine is like 10 years old ! Its called Gmotor2 and its present in archive games like GTR2 or Rfactor ! The physics is owsome but the rest is crap. Simbin could at least implant Motion Blur and Glow effects that are already made for this engine and called ENBseries.

i got the first GTR n its unbelievable how far it goes for realism, when got set on sim, especially in wet, and got manual car, have to heel n toe when slowing down or wheels just lock up , stall n go for a slide lol
This is a totally different game than burnout. You can't compare the two. Burnout is an arcade like the majority of most crap racing genre games out there. This is a true sim. You can't compare. Sims you actually have to drive and setup the car... aka gotta know what your doing. Arcades you jump in a drive and thats it. Plus all the cars handle like crap to boot.
Well thats ur opinion... but if realistic games is what you want... this is probably the best game out there for realism. Burnout and games as such including GRID are nothing more than a crash fest. Believe it or not some of us like to keep cars in one piece and like real racing.

There is a arcade aspect of this game as well but its mainly built for sim. I believe its a great game and I think its as realistic as any game out there. If you like arcades.. you may or maynot like it... if you like sims..you'll love this game. The great thing as well is that this game is mod-able to add series such as F1.

Well I don't know about graphics, GTR is decent enough. Grid is "awesome" of course. But I drive sportscars (nothing even close to GT cars), and GRID doesn't feel real. GTR is closer to real driving trust me.

I have more problems driving in GRID rather than in GTR. All aids off in both games except auto-clutch (but manual gears). Probably because GTR is more realistic so I feel more "familiar" somehow although it remains a game so not 100% real.

you don't need pushing clutch because ECU cuts ignition. sequential gerabox is semi-auto, you decide when shift but shifting is auto. i work with M3 GTR with X-trac gearboxes...i know how does it work...trust me
Dude it's called tiptronic gearbox. Most people confuse it with sequential gearbox. The difference is that tiptronic is both auto and manual, but sequential is just manual. Sequential transmission will very often use dog clutch engagement rather than the more usual syncromesh as fitted to a normal H-pattern road car gearbox.
H-pattern sucks it's old technology. Using dogs only requires a very brief interruption of engine torque to complete a shift into any adjacent gear. This allows shifting between gears without the use of the clutch. The clutch would normally be used only for standing starts. Hope you got it and can tell other people that confuse them. =)
if it is "THE Racing Simulator", than tell me: why can you shift without clutch in manual clutch setup?? ˙;) think about it. "THE real simulator" mustn't have this terrible mistake!

Are you sure? In GTR2, you could set it to require clutch. I think default is no clutch required because most people don't have a clutch pedal. I haven't played this one yet, though.
A lot of modern day race cars, especially GT cars have gearboxes that don't require you to use the clutch all the time. A few GT cars still do have the H gearbox setup, it's all down to driver preference and what they feel more comfortable with.
I myself prefer to use the clutch and H gearbox as to a sequential gearbox, as I feel racing should involve the driver more than what the car can do or is doing.
Got my copy of this game a few days ago and i have to say I'm slightly annoyed. The game itself is good of course although not a massive difference over GTR2 (hence the Evolution title, fair enough). What's annoyed me is the lack of shadow from trackside objects and in car. The game looks flat and dull. That wouldn't be so bad but the forthcoming Race Pro on Xbox 360 has both decent shadows on the track and objects and also self shadowing in cockpits! There's no reason not to have that on PC!
The handling is much improved and the tracks and cars are super detailed, the mechanical sounds are really nice to. But i still miss dynamic tire deformation and the cars move 'funny' what can be seen in the replays to.
GTR2 is a simulation like you would not believe. It has friction maps on tires and you can map each say MM of a tyre to a certain friction. (I don't know how best to explain this) but it simulates the car so deeply it is unbelievable. I don't get how you could say GTR2 is "unreal".
Race07 by contrast is easier and seems much less of a simulation. :-(

I am yet to feel the same in-depth sim feel from any other game than GTR2. LFS is cool, but doesn't come near GTR2 if you know what you're doing.
I just added a turbo charger to my MX5 in GTR2 for instance. :-)
This trailer seems a bit misleading to me. Before I get flamed let me explain I'm a big fan of GTR and will be buying this. But i'd hoped for some advancements in the graphics engine, specifically self shadowing and shadow casting from objects. This trailer makes all trackside objects look as though they're casting shadows and shows a driver receiving dappled shadows from the trees in the style of Grid/Dirt. But check out the screenshots and you can see it's still flat and ugly :(
yeah they aren't the best with graphics... but there is a reason you are still a big fan. Gtr2 is probably one of the best overall racing games there is. If it only had more classes and street cars it would no question be the best. What they lack in graphics they usually blow everyone else away in physics and sound. I haven't played this game yet... so I'll have to see.
To be honest (and again don't take this as me having a go at GTR or SimBin) I used to think the same and certainly they're way ahead of most racing sims. But have you played GT5 Prologue? I know that game is still lacking a lot of features but in terms of getting close to a real car feel- the feeling of shifting weight as you brake, accelerate and turn - I think that game is now the benchmark for realism. (But obviously not when it comes to damage, tire wear etc)
I've only played the demo for gt5p... lol. I think the only thing gt5 is lacking is sound... like the downshifting sounds and transmission noises like in simbin's stuff. And the ai probably has fewer options. Like simbin and other pc titles they have an AI difficulty slider that goes from like 75-130 so you have far more ai difficutly options. But yeah Gtr2 has its problems as well. Neither are perfect but both are top notch.
I'm pretty sure GT5P AI is scaleable in the same way GTR's is with the extra options you unlock after completing the championship. But you're right about the sound effects, they're utterly crap and nowhere close to GTR's! Actually I think the best engine noises are in Forza Motorsport as they went to great effort to record them from the actual cars and I'm told changing the exhaust has a realistic effect on the sound. (Not played it myself, just going by a petrolhead friend's account!)
The problem with the 360 (which i traded in my ps3 for doh!) is that you really only have one choice for a wheel. Where with pc and ps3 racers you get the sweet logitech wheels like g25 and the new gt5 wheel which looks fantastic. I am starting to think I made a mistake going with 360. I even sold my pc video card. son of a...
ah..yeah, unlucky! I have a G25 which works nicely with both PC and PS3 plus TrackIR on PC games. I'm surprised that Logitech haven't brought out more wheels for the Xbox but I suspect it's due to Microsoft wanting to sell more of their wheel.
It does have a damage engine but it's pretty much a substance over style one, dont expect big flip outs with bits flying everywhere like burnout but do expect to pick up damage to things like suspension and tyres. There is still visual damage though.

ENB series is shit... it only makes it much much worse...
HDR and motion blur are not really realistic effects.. (especially motion blur)
But yes, they could improve with better light effects (not with HDR, that's fake!!!)
Otherwise this game has the by far the best physics, really close to real life driving experience!

Well I don't know about graphics, GTR is decent enough. Grid is "awesome" of course. But I drive sportscars (nothing even close to GT cars), and GRID doesn't feel real. GTR is closer to real driving trust me.
Just my opinion but GRID is very arcadish.
Not picking a side but giving my opinion. Also I doubt GRID is a rally game...

I found GRID is very difficult to play, i am not new to racing games,but in GRID,I can just capable in fight hard not to end up at the last,so do u mean GTR evolution is easier to play with then GRID?

I have more problems driving in GRID rather than in GTR. All aids off in both games except auto-clutch (but manual gears). Probably because GTR is more realistic so I feel more "familiar" somehow although it remains a game so not 100% real.
But both are good game each in its own style.

it's not really about the graphics in a SIMULATOR it more about the physics! GRiD is an ARCADE game with great graphics but really bad physics.

Grid? Are you fucking kidding me? Grid is so bad I wouldn't even rate it as an arcade game, let alone a simulation.
And by the way, the GTR series has been out for far longer than Grid. So how would this be a cheap copy of Grid? They're aimed at completely different people too. Grid for the casual gamer, GTR for the people who want a simulation.
Go drive a car, ANY car and then tell me that Grid even comes close to the realism in any of the GTR games.

you don't need pushing clutch because ECU cuts ignition. sequential gerabox is semi-auto, you decide when shift but shifting is auto. i work with M3 GTR with X-trac gearboxes...i know how does it work...trust me

Dude it's called tiptronic gearbox. Most people confuse it with sequential gearbox. The difference is that tiptronic is both auto and manual, but sequential is just manual. Sequential transmission will very often use dog clutch engagement rather than the more usual syncromesh as fitted to a normal H-pattern road car gearbox.

H-pattern sucks it's old technology. Using dogs only requires a very brief interruption of engine torque to complete a shift into any adjacent gear. This allows shifting between gears without the use of the clutch. The clutch would normally be used only for standing starts. Hope you got it and can tell other people that confuse them. =)

if it is "THE Racing Simulator", than tell me: why can you shift without clutch in manual clutch setup?? ˙;) think about it. "THE real simulator" mustn't have this terrible mistake!
Some people think this is not so relevant, BUT IT IS!
Of course, this is only dissapointing for the G25 owners like me.

Are you sure? In GTR2, you could set it to require clutch. I think default is no clutch required because most people don't have a clutch pedal. I haven't played this one yet, though.

A lot of modern day race cars, especially GT cars have gearboxes that don't require you to use the clutch all the time. A few GT cars still do have the H gearbox setup, it's all down to driver preference and what they feel more comfortable with.
I myself prefer to use the clutch and H gearbox as to a sequential gearbox, as I feel racing should involve the driver more than what the car can do or is doing.

Got my copy of this game a few days ago and i have to say I'm slightly annoyed. The game itself is good of course although not a massive difference over GTR2 (hence the Evolution title, fair enough). What's annoyed me is the lack of shadow from trackside objects and in car. The game looks flat and dull. That wouldn't be so bad but the forthcoming Race Pro on Xbox 360 has both decent shadows on the track and objects and also self shadowing in cockpits! There's no reason not to have that on PC!

I just got my copy from the store.
Evo is the best one Simbin made so far.
The handling is much improved and the tracks and cars are super detailed, the mechanical sounds are really nice to. But i still miss dynamic tire deformation and the cars move 'funny' what can be seen in the replays to.

GTR2 is a simulation like you would not believe. It has friction maps on tires and you can map each say MM of a tyre to a certain friction. (I don't know how best to explain this) but it simulates the car so deeply it is unbelievable. I don't get how you could say GTR2 is "unreal".
Race07 by contrast is easier and seems much less of a simulation. :-(

Actually, Youtube seems to splatter my comments anywhere it feels. It wasn't aimed at you, but was more of a general comment on how I feel the series has gone backwards since GTR2. :-)
I am yet to feel the same in-depth sim feel from any other game than GTR2. LFS is cool, but doesn't come near GTR2 if you know what you're doing.
I just added a turbo charger to my MX5 in GTR2 for instance. :-)

This trailer seems a bit misleading to me. Before I get flamed let me explain I'm a big fan of GTR and will be buying this. But i'd hoped for some advancements in the graphics engine, specifically self shadowing and shadow casting from objects. This trailer makes all trackside objects look as though they're casting shadows and shows a driver receiving dappled shadows from the trees in the style of Grid/Dirt. But check out the screenshots and you can see it's still flat and ugly :(

yeah they aren't the best with graphics... but there is a reason you are still a big fan. Gtr2 is probably one of the best overall racing games there is. If it only had more classes and street cars it would no question be the best. What they lack in graphics they usually blow everyone else away in physics and sound. I haven't played this game yet... so I'll have to see.

To be honest (and again don't take this as me having a go at GTR or SimBin) I used to think the same and certainly they're way ahead of most racing sims. But have you played GT5 Prologue? I know that game is still lacking a lot of features but in terms of getting close to a real car feel- the feeling of shifting weight as you brake, accelerate and turn - I think that game is now the benchmark for realism. (But obviously not when it comes to damage, tire wear etc)

I've only played the demo for gt5p... lol. I think the only thing gt5 is lacking is sound... like the downshifting sounds and transmission noises like in simbin's stuff. And the ai probably has fewer options. Like simbin and other pc titles they have an AI difficulty slider that goes from like 75-130 so you have far more ai difficutly options. But yeah Gtr2 has its problems as well. Neither are perfect but both are top notch.

I'm pretty sure GT5P AI is scaleable in the same way GTR's is with the extra options you unlock after completing the championship. But you're right about the sound effects, they're utterly crap and nowhere close to GTR's! Actually I think the best engine noises are in Forza Motorsport as they went to great effort to record them from the actual cars and I'm told changing the exhaust has a realistic effect on the sound. (Not played it myself, just going by a petrolhead friend's account!)

The problem with the 360 (which i traded in my ps3 for doh!) is that you really only have one choice for a wheel. Where with pc and ps3 racers you get the sweet logitech wheels like g25 and the new gt5 wheel which looks fantastic. I am starting to think I made a mistake going with 360. ah..yeah, unlucky! I have a G25 which works nicely with both PC and PS3 plus TrackIR on PC games. I'm surprised that Logitech haven't brought out more wheels for the Xbox but I suspect it's due to Microsoft wanting to sell more of their wheel.

It does have a damage engine but it's pretty much a substance over style one, dont expect big flip outs with bits flying everywhere like burnout but do expect to pick up damage to things like suspension and tyres. There is still visual damage though.

Vielleicht ist GTR ja auch gleichzeitig das geheimnisvolle Simbin-Spiel für die 360, das sie erst bestätigt und dann doch widerrufen haben...Da sollen auchh ca 350 autos drin sein. Vielleicht kommts ja ein paar monate in grafisch besserer Version für die XBOX raus... Ich fänds aber unfair gegenüber den PS3-Spielern, ganz ehrlich. Aber egal, Simbin wird sich in den nächsten Tagen sowieso dazu äußern, was für ein Spiel sie auf der 360 herausbringen...Vielleicht ist es auch was völlig anderes.

Ich denke nicht das sich in sachen Grafik nochwas tun wird, da es ja nen Addon für Race 07 sein wird.
Somit wird sich wohl auch am Schadensmodel nix weiter tun.
Naja auf jeden fall dürfen wir gespannt sein, der erste eindruck ist auf jeden fall vielversprechend =)
