I was given regular anesthesia so I didnt feel any pain or discomforst whats so ever. It was over so quick It was done withing 45 minutes. Think of it as a examination and not a operation of sorts. The worst part of the exam is having to clean out your colon by drinking the liquid at home the day before and on the morning of the exam. It emptys out everything you got in your tummy, so count on sitting on the toilet the nite before. Thats not even that bad either but i thought id mention it.
Hi Lynn my husband has been in hospital for 3 days he has had loss of apetite, weight loss and severe pain in lower abdomen and back, he is on morphine and needs a colonoscopy as soon as they can "fit him in" I am so scared, he is 47.
I'm going in for a colonoscopy in a couple weeks for rectal bleeding. I'm so nervous. I'm afraid of what it's going to be like, if it's going to hurt and the prep. I've been crying every day since I found out that I needed one. I feel like such a baby but I'm so scared. Watching your video did help. I want to thank you for that. You made it seem like it was nothing. My anxiety isn't on red alert anymore. I'm still freaking out a bit but I feel a little more at ease now. ^_^
@LittleMsSelfDestruct We wish you all the best with your colonoscopy - please let us know what you think of it afterwards Lynn's Bowel Cancer Campaign
Lynn - just had 2 severe bouts of diverticultis and a perforated bowel, which put me in hospital both times, I have been told that I need a colonoscopy prior to a possible bowel re-section, never been in hospital prior to this I found your video re-assuring............fingers crossed it all goes well.
I'm a nurse and about to undergo my second Colonoscopy tomorrow. Nobody likes to undergo any invasive procedure like this, but it's the safest way to detect and prevent colo-rectal cancer. I have had many Endoscopies as well and once while awake, which I'd never do again. I don't know if I'm brave enough to have this procedure without conscious sedation. Your video was extremely well presented, good job.
Thank you so much for this Lynn - I've had symptoms that i;ve told GPs about for years that have been ignored, so now i'm terrified to have the colonosopy suggested by a very good GP. Your video is a really important step in helping pluck up courage to go through with it.
im 38, have had awaful pain and swelling of colon, seenn gp for 2 years about it..nothing...until i ended up having to go to out of hours GP..my bloods were all off, referred to gastroenterology..they my own gp requested i was seen soon. The Dr i seen was great, ordered abdo xray and colonoscopy. Im not worried about getting it...i have Moviprep to clear me...2 Litres <------ when all i want is food!! Im an ex staff nurse...worst patients!! hehe
@LynnsBowelCancerCamp Oh Lynn, i felt EVERYTHING, i was screaming throuout, in tears during and after, my heart rate went up to 150. The nurse was amazing..they said heres sedation via venflon..i was not sedated..i said to the nurse..she was near crying with me. She said, midway, said do you want a rest, i pleaded yes, the female doctor said no! my bowl was going into severe spasm..she said to the nurse to press down on lower left hand side to try get scope thro.. I was admitted to hosp nxt day
@vaddoff - I can understand your anxieties but would urge you not to cancel the appointment as the procedure is important and will help your doctor determine how best to help you - whilst not pleasant it is all finished reasonably quickly. Please let us know how you get on info@bowelcancer.tv - very best wishes
Thank you Lynn, I just had mine done 2 days ago, I was put out completley due to adhesions, the 1st one I had I woke up crying in pain because I only had lite sedation which most ppl only need like you had and did just fine. I had an infection that has been cleared up with antibitics and IBS so nothing to much worry about, my Dad passed frorm colon cancer when I was 9 so I must get tested every 5 years too. I wish you future good health and again thanks so much 4 sharing "-) God Bless

@auntjojo1980 I am so sorry to hear about your dad, that must have been very hard for you to deal with, and no doubt still is. I am so glad that you are tested regularly, and sorry to hear that it's been unpleasant so far. I'd like to wish you continued good health too - please keep us updated.
I'm a 27 y/o female and am having a colonoscopy next week after finding a small tumor in my appendix last month. I've been quite worried, but watching this video has helped tremendously in easing my uncertainties. Thank you for sharing!
@SoldierOfChrist110 We all hope that your colonoscopy goes well, please let us know how you get on info@bowelcancer.tv Glad that watching the video has helped you be less worried, all the very best.
Wish I could have watched this video before I had my first colonoscopy 10 years ago, I wouldn't have been so nervous. A polyp was found and dealt with. I am having another check up tomorrow and watching you have your proceedure is very reassuring. Thanks so much.
@LynnsBowelCancerCamp It all went very well thanks. No polyps this time but was told I had an irritable bowel. I can honestly say that the only unpleasant part of having a colonoscopy is taking the purging medicine the day before. If you are due to have a colonoscopy don't worry, the nurses are all lovely, they understand how stressed you might be and they will reassure you. Never put off going to your GP if you are concerned about your bowel health
I agree with you about the stuff we have to take to clear out the bowel beforehand - I've been challenging the doctors for years to come up with something nicer - any ideas out there?
Im going off to the doctors at 5pm tonight to have an examination done as I have been passing blood,,, my doctor mentioned something about having an examination with her finger but also with a tube?? I am trying not to worry and watching this video has helped me understand about the bowel a bit more so it has reassured me that there is nothing to worry about. Thank you Lynn for sharing this with us, it was very educational, all the best!
@MyPoppy09 The investigation with the tube is probably a flexi-sig which is a short form of colonoscopy and very easy. Do let us know how you get on info@bowelcancer.tv
Very useful! I am going for a sigmoidoscopy in two days time, and although the procedure is slightly different, I found this video very informative and I am now far less worried. Thankyou!
