Your guys are crazy. Manigult or Raymond Lewis may have been GOOD but this guy was a freak of nature. He was ONLY 16 at the time of this video!!!!!! He also NEVER seen a weight room. Everything that he's doing is raw ability. BEST PLAYER TO NEVER PLAY HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The problem Ronnie Fields would have ran into was that he was 6'2 but not a point guard. Accident was a shame though. Would have liked to see him play in college.
Apparently none u all have heard of LA legend Raymond Lewis who -- unlike engaging primarily in the leaping and dunking theatrics of Fields and Mangault -- could actually shoot, pass and handle the ball -- unlike anyone in history. He was only 6'2" but shot 59% in his soph season at L.A. state and scored 38 against Walton's UCLA Bruins. In 1983, in a summer league game, at the age of 34, he scored 53 points while being guarded by Michael Cooper, the best perimeter defender in the NBA.
@BKMcBurgerPants Most of the "GOATS" reason for greatest is from people talking about how great he was. It's really opinion since no one can prove or disprove it.
One thing that was special about Ronnie is that there is a lot of video footage to back up how great he was.
@GSPfan10 Just saying, this is somebody who was referred to Kareem as the best he's ever seen. This is a 6'1 guy who could touch the top of the backboard. Someone who could "double dunk".
Look Ronnie Fields is a tragic story. I get that. But, Manigault could have been one of the best players in the NBA of all time.
God its so HARD to remember that he is 16, 17, and 18 years old in these highlights! He literally did anything he wanted on the court. Really wish he could have realized his potential. When he got in that crash it was absolutely no different than hearing that Scottie Pippen or Jordan were crash - thats how much he meant to some kids like me in Chicago.
Any kid who grew up in the 90's knew Fields. Not just in Chicago but the MIdwest - and thats before all of the exposure that althletes get now. He could shoot, play D, and sky like no other. He was like a supercharged jet going to the rim. He made the 10:00 news every night he played it seemed. Guys aren't usually covered like that in high school. He in that "What could have been" category with Lenny Bias.
Thats true...i lived in Queens NY at the time and i even heard of him...my cousin played ball in jersey near Camden and he would put me up on the up n coming names..Fields was one of them..i think Lester Earl was another name i kept hearing
Fields was tied with Kobe for No 1 player in the nation in high school and Kobe was 3 inches taller than him not that it makes a difference but for a SG it does because if Ronnie did not grow he would have played point in the NBA imagine if he was 3 inches taller (oh and Kobe was the 13 pick of of high school)

Y'all are idiots. He can play defense a lot better than 90% of the guys coming out of college nowadays. There is def. a place in the league for Ronnie Fields.
None of these people know the story of Ronnie Fields...I'm a white kid from the South Side of Chicago and I bawled my eyes out when I heard he was badly injured and may not walk again...he was the best player ever to come out of the Chicago-land area and would have been an NBA Hall of Famer EASILY had he not been in that accident
@dannymilk --->100% true. In the 90's he was superstar all across Chi-town. His was a legend, and had he had his stuff 2gether off court he would be in NBA no doubt.
Wow amazing, i can't fucking believe that random airballing 12 inch vert white people can get in the nba, but not a guy that has a 50inch vert plus a great shooter, plus great in the paint doesn't get in the NBA this guy couldv'e bin better that michael jordan if he improved his shooting he sure can jump higher than MJ.

It would have been 1996. Ronnie was a McDonald's All American, but due to the car wreck he was unable to play.
Lester Earl won the contest, beating Corey Benjamin and Kobe Bryant in the finals but Ronnie was quoted a month later saying "I would have won the dunk contest hands down."
we played him at the centurion classic in HS. and he was going 4 a breakaway dunk, and one of my teammates almost clotheslined him on accident just trying to stop him from dunking. There entire stands almost stormed the court after him. The refs had 2 stop the game for 10 minutes. After that that cat stood a the the box posting up yelling at the point to just throw it up. He threw it I swear it was at the top of the box. Ronnie caught it and crushed on our center who was 6'9. All at 6'3(if that)
