When I watch him, all I see is a man with freakin Jesus coming out of him while he shreds his fingers till they are a piece of the flame of the guitar
One of the best if not the best guitarist ever,Many have imitated him but he still shreds on.If you think he plays too many notes then why are you even on this page.'the people that bad talked Mozart are looking pretty stupid now.He was the first of his style of playing ,
Yngwie Malmsteen is surely one of the most gifted musicians who ever lived, period. The haters are nothing but jealous. Every note he plays is divine.
He really needs to dump the leather pants and grab some levis.. and umm cut the socker rocker hair do.. its 2010 Yngwie... great player.. awful dresser..
@Ruleran Its 2010... Hes still running around in the old leather pants and long hair.... come on.. Plus hes dumped dimarzio for seymour duncan after 20+ years... that = sell out... sorry.. what a way to spit in the face of dimarzio. Yngwie has massive talent.. and an ego to match.
Paul is obviously and heavily influenced by Malmsteen. I would say that Paul is a bit more experimental and has a wide range of style than Malmsteen. But Malmsteen has is own style been influenced by neo classical music incorporating into his guitar by adding fast picking harmonic scales and arpeggios.
yngwie is gd but he is not the best, paul gilbert, john petrucci, steve vai and satriani are all better and more musical, i often find that yngwie's songs all sound the same and have no originality. he has a limited imagination and uses the same scale in all his songs
@ibanez7593 Malmsteen spawned an entire genre based on his music, how is that not original? I have to agree with you that Satriani is better, way better. Gilbert comes close, but Petrucci is nowhere near.
@trigardonAQ ok i give u that his genre is original but alot of his songs still sound the same and are stuck in this genre he could diversify and be more creative and interesting
@ibanez7593 heh, I find Gilbert, Petrucci, Vai and Satch have all released similar material. Not saying that Yngwie hasn't but these guys are as guilty of it as Yngwie is.
Haha! i love how yngwie gets so into his shredding that hell just go for something he knows wont fit and just goes off and almost loses beat but he catches back up at the last second and its awesome lol
I totally agree. I don't understand what people hear in his playing. I've bought records from Satch, Vai, Malmsteen, Lynch, Rhodes, Lee, Wylde, Van Halen, Demartini, Skolnick, Dimebag and many other "shredders". But not ONE Gilbert album. Can't even place why, his stuff is not very memorable to me I guess.
@armandddd How can you even say that? Paul has a completely different style. Paul Gilbert actually makes good music over various genres. Yngwie just wants to be JS Bach.

yeah yngwie definately cant be compared to any classical music whatsoever, he is just not an all time great in music history. 1:30 is such a lame melody :P and such a lame chord progression.

Malmsteen regardless of how you see him is a fantastic guitarist. But I don't really care for what he has achieved as a musician, except for the creation of MJR lol which I am sure this guy was partly responsible for.
Many opinions about this man. I heard him in the 80's when absolutely no one was as skilled as he. he remains the cleanest picking, innovative guitarist of an era. His influence is still felt today across genres.

Top Ten most influential hard Rock Guitarist over the past 40 years. (List is in no particular order). 1. Jimi Hendrix 2. Joe Satriani 3 Rhandy Rhoads 4 Edward Van Halen 5 Steve Vai 6 Nuno Bettencourt 7 Michael Schenker 8 Yngwie Malmsteen 9 Jason Becker 10 Brian May
his right hand is the key..other than his obvious harmonic knowledge. he doesnt just ssweep pick.. he has the al dimeola right hand down...vai does not
I bought his signature strat a few months ago, in the same colour as the one here... its the only guitar thats matched my Ibanez JS.. its really beautiful.. Probably down to the DiMarzio pick ups they have in.. really is a great guitar :]
Yngwie a good guitarist. However I think people such as Petrucci and Vai are far greater in comparsion. Yngwie seems as thou he hasnt improved much since the 80s. (This isn't bashing or flaming I'm a huge fan of Yngwie) I feel Yngwie lacks the knowledge to step outside his safety zone and thus we often a repetitive sound in all of his songs. ( Just my opinion thou :P)
I disagree with you. Vai for me has sounded the same all the time, with his space ship sound of guitar. Petrucci, well, he has improved, and is a great guitarrist. Yngwie i believe he is an amazing guitarrist (not a good, and amazing), and really improving has a different meaning for everyone.
Yeah man..you would definately wish Vai and Petrucci to play like him...but they will never ..cause he is the best...as far as the improvement area...they have many years to get improved...but Malmsteen doesnt need any at all..He has reached the top...Cant go further..And last..He can play blindfolded any thing petrucci plays...Can petrucci or Vai play his tunes?????NoooooooWaaaaayyyy......Bro...So wake up..you are in deep slumber...!!!
u obviously dont read music because your statement is false prog-metal and instrumental prog (petrucci and vais genre) is much more difficult then neoclassical metal/shred. Do you research.
Malmsteen was one of the first neoclassical guitarists, in fact I believe he was THE first. I see him as one of the worst, other than Vai. Jeff Loomis, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Michael Angelo Batio, and Joe Satriani (Mr. Satch invented G3 ftw!) would ALL (In my opinion) slaughter the FUCK out of Malmsteen. This is totally not biased, and in fact quite the opposite. I like Yngwie's sound the best, he sounds more 'metal' than the others to me, and he's Swedish, like me. Still yet...
I've actually changed my views on Malmsteen. I've looked into more of his latest songs, and he's still the best guitarist alive today. He did pretty much pioneer neo-classical metal. Other than John Petrucci's unbelievable alternate-picking skills, especially up and down strings, there is only ONE guy I think has ever even touched Malmsteen-Jeff Loomis. His Miles Of Machines and Zero Order Phase album was unbelievable.
He did, and the sad thing is when he pioneered this style of music he already made it PERFECT. I don't think there's any room for improvement, I don't think there ever will be anyone that can top him. I'm probably going to take some classical guitar in college. I'm trying to teach myself, but I don't have any good sources of reference.:(
Hes not the best, all guitarists have their different techniques, melodys and unique styles, you can say ones very good better than others, but not the best.
No, it just makes them the most talented and knowledgable. And certainly the most emotional, considering the determination to become so skillfull. But no. Vinnie Moore, Yngwie Malmsteen, Uli Jon Roth, Joe Stump, Michael Romeo, Michael Angelo Batio(prodigy at five years old), Jason Becker, Luca Turilli, Marty Friedman, Rusty Cooley, Jeff Loomis, Shinichiro Okada(Shadow), Alexi Laiho(Look into Sinergy, not his shitty band Children Of Bodom) are not great at all. Jazz shredders aren't great either.
Jazz shredders like Greg Howe, Al Di Meola, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and John Petrucci. Steve Vai's rhythm guitarist/keyboardist is a Neo-classical shredder strangely enough. Tony MacAlpine. I forgot Chris Broderick for Neo-classical shredders as well, and probably many others.
