to be honest though: you tend to play ghost notes in places where they indeed seem to feel great, when the song is played. but it doesn't sound too good. rick marotta's drumming on this track is so tasteful and minimalistic that every single nuance can change everything. if you get the hihat things happen and the
You're absolutely right. The thing is I decided to record this tune only a couple of days before. I didn´t pay attention to the excess of ghost notes, and I noticed this inmediately when watching the vid afterwards. Same thing w the hi-hat openings, as downjones also said.
You forget the most important aspect of Marotta's drum track on 'Peg': he opens his hihat slightly. Check the Steely Dan vid of the making of Aja. Marotta talks about it; it isn't just sixteenth notes on the hihat...
You´re right! I noticed later. I think I´m only opening it on a couple or three sixteenth notes, but it should happen much more regularly. Good point, I had almost forgotten!;)
Well, at least I think it to be so in my case. Weckl and Lang, for instance, are great, as long as listening to them doesn´t make you overlook the essential groove and musicality concept. Thanks man!;)
keep on drumming Bjorn! Don't waste youre time and energy on such people and comments like sunareylisa's ! Remember what Rick Marotta said: " The less is more!!!!!!".
Marotta's got the right point! I've fooled around for such a long time working on the craziest things! Listening to Toto and so I started to get into the musicality criteria, which is the most powerful for me. Don't worry I wasted very little time on the local idiot hehe
Judging by your evident sense of irony (that being "I've got my own life, I'm intelligent and I'm heterosexual", which is true) I'll be so good as to thank you heartly for the comment.
This is great. But I think the hi-hat is overworked or doubled or something. Watch "The making of Peg" Great work. You are good.

loose, but awesome. I like the fact that Peg had so many players take a shot at it....

Yes, it's unbelievable...just the guitar solo for instance, until Graydon layed it down.
Take care!

Nice try Bjorn. For me though it shows how truly inspiring the original version was. So so sparse and subtle but oozing feel. It was wonderful stuff.

I agree. The whole cymbal work in the interlude is great and Bjorn's time keeping is particulary nice on this great tune.
I'd like to hear some nice cover of Deacon Blues on drums, with that dry and crispy sound on the Aja record.
See you, Bjorn!
