  • Fuck S.978

  • Review Desert Strike!

  • i love hearing the snes vs megadrive argument twenty years after the fact..bleedin ell..they are both amazing consoles from an amazing era and you could go out with about £40 quid and buy one of each these days if you looked in the right places...everybody should go and do that as soon as possible if they haven't already done so by the way ;)

  • @dannyofthededd I think it really shows how great they both were, and how evenly matched, that so many will argue with a bitter rage that their 16 bit system of choice is better.

  • @SCBianchi the playground competition was certainly good for business for both companies and was encouraged in the marketing, very cleverly playing on peoples loyalties and competitive nature.Back in the day,the new nintendo machine impressed us all with some modern tech and great new games, but to hear the same debate these days when both machines can be appreciated individually for their merits is testament to some seriously successful mind program brain washing technique..and a bit daft ;)

  • This game is RIDICULOUSLY hard. Best I've done so far is almost killing the level 3 boss on normal difficulty. Really fun though.

  • Picked this game up fro the NES the other day for $2. It's remarkably similar to Tiger Heli, but a bit better.

  • @SatoshiMatrix1 Yeah this was after Tiger Heli, a bit more polished.

  • Without a doubt my best 16-bit game. Awesome soundtrack, addictive gamestyle, greatly challenging. Try playing the music on your guitar or keyboard at rlspeed!

  • bit like Airwolf eh

  • awesome commentary

  • I like the 24 karat gold tanks.

  • Like Turrican? Well I am currently selling a near-mint Turrican megadrive/genisis game. take a look on ebay: 280566687865. great video btw :)

  • never saw this game.. looks good. Reminds me HARD of Twin Hawk

  • I haven't played this since I was a kid, but I remember this being a very hard game even when it was set on easy. I always needed to plug in the Game Genie for this game lol.

  • Is it compatible with PAL consoles? There is no PAL version of this game and I'm still afraid of modding my Mega Drive.

  • @Skyline1994PL I think most do but some have a region lock, so you'll have to check first if it works.

  • I remember this classic shoot 'em up. This was a nice game back in the day. I loved playing this game and seeing this game in action brings back a lot of good memories. The music was good on this game. Great review as always.

  • This game is relentless. I've been playing it alot lately, and even at the easiest settings it's nearly impossible to survive for more than a couple of minutes - tops. It's addictive though. lol.

    STAY AWESOME! :)

  • Absolutely superb shoot'em up.A bonafide classic.Nice music too,Although explosions still sound like someone's knocking on your door hard :)

  • In England, the Genesis was called the Mega Drive.

  • Holy spread-shot batman!

  • Excellent for a 16 bit game.

  • I bought this game at Level Up Video Games, last night. I've been looking all over for this game, ever since I had a Sega Genesis. Toaplan shoot-'em-ups kick ass!

  • @BenJabituya

Yeah Fire Shark and Hellfire are my fav Toaplan games on Genesis )

  • I remember playing another version that looks exactly like Twin Cobra, but it was on the original NES console.

Speaking just of the NES version, I got bored after a while, and decided to turn on the GameGenie and let the game place by itself, just to see if there was any sort of ending. After letting the console run for a few hours, I came back to it to see what was happening.

The game appears to go on forever. There is no final victory. You inevitably die.

    Rather boring without any goal.

  • Fireshark is way better than this game. Twin Cobra is still very enjoyable and is another great Toaplan shooter. Great review, love the G.I. Joe references.

  • looks like an evil shooter

  • I love the background music for the Twin Cobra, especially the music for the fifth, tenth, fourth, and ninth stages. Although Twin Cobra is difficult, especially in the later stages, I loved it. I wish to play it again.

  • PS: Consensus among really good Twin Cobra players (at least at my local arcade) seemed to be that the blue ball weapon was the way to go.

  • In the arcade, possibly my favorite shmup ever.

    Soundtrack RULES. Utterly.

  • @classof77 I remember the arcade version - it was the SH*T!!! This version - in a vacuum - is fine, but it doesn't touch the arcade. And you are tight, that soundtrack was titanic!

  • Is it just me or does Mark's voice sound a bit off in this review?

    I like Twin Cobra's music: it's pretty stylish ^_^

  • Sega Genesis = teh awesome

  • agreed for the rest of my life.. =]

  • I have this for the NES...great game :D

  • Comment removed

  • The level at 6:23 and the bonus stars remind me of level 2 and the bee medals from DoDonPachi. Not surprising, since a lot of Cave employees used to work at Toaplan before that company went bankrupt.

Also, Zero Wing was on the Genesis but was never released in the US.

  • If it's not genesis it's mega drive. genesis = the us version cuz there was a copyright issue or some crap with mega drive in that country

  • that move at 4:48 was pretty clutch...instinct

  • I'll definitely pick this game up along with air buster, anyone reccommend any other awesome shooters like this for me?

  • god dam i love this shooter twin cobra ruels had back in 1992

  • I prefer the arcade versions of these classic games

  • f*** yeah!, more shmups!

  • i like jornalistic reviews!!! they kick some ass!!!

    continue with the gooood work!!!!

  • this guy is particularly good !

  • Is it just me or is the sound the enemies make when they blow up is like the sound you get when you pop those poppy packaging material things. LOL.

  • omg i have this game, its fun :D

  • i had a weekness for these types of games as a kid :) good times

  • That music at the end kicked ass!

  • wow, you are really good at this game!! By the way, what is the difference between the Sega Genesis and Megadrive??

  • Genesis is the american name (Sega couldn't license the name megadrive, so they choose Genesis instead. Atleast, thats what i think happened) and Megadrive is everywhere else. The american genesis looked nicer than the megadrive of the other countries, which is annoying. They also got normal manuals rather than weird short fat things which we have.

  • Genesis - American name for the Megadrive

Megadrive - Name of the Genesis everywhere else.

    They're the same system.

  • awesome music

  • rock on dude youre the best on youtube!

  • What do you mean "nothing fancy" in the weapon section. You said that just a few seconds after the super-awesome-spread-over-the-whole-screen-machine-gun. I think that is the technical term for it. It's at 3:54

  • The Genesis has a stunning array of great shmups. Twin Cobra is yet another example of this.

  • This game was okay, but I was a bigger fan of 1943 on the NES.

  • COOL, nice review

  • Awesome!!

Another shooter to put on my PSP!!! ;)

  • i have the sega genesis 2

  • great review,i also liked the old c64 shooters like uridium, zaxxon, cybernoid those were great.i miss my c64!!!

  • you really are a huge shooter fan.

  • Good game but I prefer the PC Engine version of the game a little more.

  • This game doesn't fills the screen completely. The original arcade version is a vertical QVGA screen. The Genesis version could had kept the same style, but with a horizontal (regular) screen - that would be interesting!

  • i love this game.. wooooo 15 years ago i guess.

  • Seriously looking and listening to your intro make these the best reviews ever

  • sounds like you have a cold

  • Cheese World!

  • I rented this game about 15 years ago, so obviously it's been a long time since I played it...

But my memory is that this game had the continue points positioned *behind* the point where you earn the continue.

So if you die shortly after respawning, the game will continue to move you backwards.

That drove me insane when I did it a few times in a row.

  • <3 sega genesis!!!

  • TWIN COBRA is pretty classic. ..

When will you review "DARWIN 4081" ?

    watch?v=nuNUxF1EZjQ

  • Do you have Task Force harrier?? I think you'd like it.

  • wasn't this game on NES, like maybe a watered down version? I remember something like this.

  • I believe your thinking about Tiger Heil, another Helicopter SHMUP.

Both are great games. I've played Twin Cobra a lot at FunSpot but never played the home version before, I'll have to check it out.

  • This does play like Tiger Heli based on the video. Lacks the tiny helicopters that follow you around like options though.

  • It looks like Tiger Heli because it's the sequel to Tiger Heli. In japan it's called Kyukyoku Tiger (Ultimate Tiger).

  • Yes, they also had a NES version.

I played it for the first time recently, it took me a few minutes to realize the game seemed familiar.

  • how does this dude review so many games? he must have like 5 mill or somthin

  • this reminds me of 1942 for some reason

  • YAY!!!! a genesis review!!!!! woohooo!!!!

  • Great tunes! They are really inspiring.

  • i have a question.

How much do sega genesis' cost these days?

  • $15-$20 including cords and POSSIBLY one controller.

  • yea id say about 20 for a model 2 im not sure how much the models 1 and 3 are

  • about 1$

  • I loved this game it was one of the first ones i got for my Genesis back in the day. Great review!

  • Was this made by the same company that made Tiger Heli for the NES?

  • Both are ports are arcade games made by Toaplan. Neither ever come close to their respective arcade versions though. Fire Shark and Truxton were also Toaplan arcade games which is why they are similar.

  • i think if toaplan started made games for next gen systems, they could be a great company

  • Just got into the Genesis scene. Its been fun.

  • genesis owns snes

  • no, snes OWNS genesis by a long shot

  • I say they are equal. The SNES has the best versions of most games but the Genesis was uncensored and had more games.

  • well the SNES won the war but they are both awesome consoles

  • Ya I would agree, sorry Mark but the kid with the Genesis was kind of weird I only knew one person with a Genesis, everyone else I knew had a SNES.

  • Lots of people had Genesis, I only knew 2 people with an SNES and they both also had a Genny. :)

But the truth is that lots of people had each system, they were both popular. But within a certain group one machine will often dominate, because kids tend to buy the same system their friends have.

I prefer the Genesis myself but the SNES is good for RPGs.

  • it all depends on your taste.i think castlevania ,contra, street fighter, arcus oddesy, tmnt hyper stone heist was better on the genesis.but games like terminator, fatal fury, samurai shodown were defanatly better on the genesis.

  • i have to say, the music is awesome :P

  • I never played this one, but it's good to see someone who appreciates the greatness of M.U.S.H.A.!

  • Raiden Trad!!!

    Wait a minute...

  • Yeah bring on the SHMUPs!

  • was it just me or did one of the BGMs during the gameplay sound a lil bit like the 80s song "time after time" by Cyndi Lauper?

Cyndi Lauper! WOO! Love her ^_^ Is she even still alive? *Shrugs*

  • yeah the very final one before the credits i heard it too D:

  • So i'm NOT developing early onset dementia? ^_^ Thank fuck for that.

  • cheers mark, its great to see ya reviewing a mega drive/genesis game again=)

ohh have you heard that sega recently got a patent for some new computer hardware and logos that kind look like the dreamcasts? could this mean a new console?

    keep up the good work:)

  • I thin it's handheld if there is.

  • yeah or maybe its some arcade hardware? but whatever it is its good to see SEGA developing hardware once again=)

  • I love that song at the beginning!

Hey, this game reminds me of the NES game 1942....then again, I haven't played many game like this.

  • Finally a review of a good game.

  • I'm missing a reference here, who were the Cobra Twins?

  • characters from gi joe

  • This version is good but I prefer the PC Engine version. The color and music sound a bit better.

  • Ooh, this looks just like Raptor for the PC <3 I used to play that alot, but I suck very much at it XD

  • They should have made a musical keyboard for the genisis so you could play with the sounds.

  • They actually have a mod for the Game Boy that lets you make 8 bit sounds with it.

  • Seems very reminiscent of Raiden Trad; even the music is somewhat similar.

That's a good thing though, because Raiden Trad is a good game.

  • awesome review think ill give this one a try

  • I love these vertical shooters. There is nothing easyer to just pick up and play. The soundtrack in this game is awesome, controls are tight.

I need to buy this game again.

BTW Mark, you sound so different in this review. I can't clearly put my finger on it. Did you talk slower, made your voice deeper or did you use different equipment?

Oh, and the Baroness is a tease ;)

    Cobra-Lalalalalalalalalala!!!!

  • You said taoplan games dont give you shelds, yes they do, try batsugun sepecial ver.

  • octupelt cobra

  • nice! I remember playing this as a kiddo ^^ very fun

  • Raiden Trad for the Genesis is also one of my favorites!

  • I got my copy for the Genesis with box and manual for 50 cents. One hell of a game for 50 cents. It really kicks my ass lol. Great review man. You will have to do the NES version some day.

    HAIL COBRA!

  • It's not as original as those other shooters on the Genesis because Twin Cobra was originally and arcade game, oh and it's also available for the NES (i have it for the Genesis and NES)

  • This was one of the HARDEST games I've EVER played!

  • GUN-NAC!! is definitely the best scolling shooter :)

  • on NES only. I don't diss it but then again, the only challenge it gave was Expert mode + Ricochet (suicide bullets) for me. Yeah i'm a skilled asshole xD

  • Long live the Mega Drive indeed. Did you know there re-releasing the Mega Drive in the UK near the end of April (not manufactured by SEGA, but licensed by them).

  • Yes!!! more Awesome games for the genesis!

  • It's sort of similar to S.W.I.V. on the Acorn Archimedes / Commodore Amiga.

  • Reminds me a bit of 1941/42/43, or Xevious, and Sky Force (Reloaded) for the cell-phones.

  • kinda looks like tiger heli. an advance tiger heli. hehehe

  • Mad Skills!!! Nice!!

  • great vid!

  • Im tellin you, classic game room is a drug. I have to watch like 20205020500 of his videos every day.

  • mad skills!

  • wow this is Ur 888th vid. :D

  • I agree with the after-death slowdown. I hate when I play Gradius III on my SNES and I die six stages into it. You might as well say "game over" right there because once you get so far into the game and the difficulty curve cranks up, you have no chance. Youre useless once you lose your powerups deep into that game.

  • Gradius 3= one of the best shooters ever but hard as fuck!

  • YES.

  • Bring on Xenon II.

  • The explosions have a good thud and

boom - well they sound great as I'm

listening through a HiFi. Another game

too with a classy electronic drum roll.

  • i think this is a sequel to tiger heli on the nes, loved it, gonna have to pick this one up since 2d shooters completely rule and everything

  • @6:12- 6:22, that was cold, you made up an story out of nowhere about the cobra twins life.lolz You should do that more about characters you don't know.lolz

  • cool

  • Now I know where Raiden X is from!

This is such a great game!

  • i have this game and its my favorite shooter for the genesis..the music is just freakin awesome..i did footage of this a while back

  • I think I've played this one before, idk. I just know I love these types of games :P

  • I had this game I liked it

  • lol
