  • Dave was awesome.

When I think of bodybuilding in the 1960's, I think of Joe Weider and Dave Draper.

Dave dropped out of the sport and Joe used Dave after that, but in his heyday, no one compared to Dave Draper.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Been a Draper fan since the mid-60s. He and Arnold and Bill Pearl and Frank Zane were what bodybuilding was all about back then. Arnold won more titles and was more famous, but I tend to believe Draper had more respect from competitors and the fans. Plus, he writes well.

  • Joel, thank you for all the work you do on behalf of the champions!

  • Dave Draper looked incredible especially his upper body. I remember him in the "Beverley Hillbillies" when Granny thought he had a disease called "barbells" as she thought his muscles were swollen

    It was hillarious

  • Every Friday night we had to watch Dave Draper and his "Gladiator" TV show where they showed old Gladiator movies, a lot with Steve Reeves and others. Here's to you Dave.

  • Now this guy hands down is my Favorite body builder of all time. So young, so big and blonde. Im the same heigh 240lbs at age 20. My stats are Identical to him. What a legend. Only if he would have continued with Arnold. Hands down I like this guys build the best. Little more legs than arnold too. And I would say he is more of the hardest workers. He basically invited the mass.

  • His iconic status is summarized in AMERICAN HUNKS; THE MUSCULAR MALE BODY IN POPULAR CULTURE 1860-1970, by David L. Chapman and Brett Josef Grubisic

  • I think that Dave Draper is the greatest body-builder that ever lived. When he won the IFBB Mr.Universe contest in 1966 he was invinceable. He is a living legend and icon of the sport!

  • Dave was one of the best. Far more aesthetically pleasing than just about anyone except maybe Zane & Reeves.

  • @dapoetmaster good list , personally i would have to add bill pearl to your list =D

  • Dave Draper forever!!!

  • he had a guest role in the tv show Beverly Hillbillies, the Clampetts thought he had a bad illness which caused his body to swell, they asked him how het got like that , he said it was the dumbells, they had no idea what dumbells were

  • mr. draper's guest role as Mr. Universe on the Beverly Hillbillies USED to be on Youtube but has someone had it removed? I can't seem to find it now. He is wearing a T-shirt while talking to Ellie Mae at the "CEEMENT POND" but looks as good in t-shirt and pants without posing as he could look at a competition....he is that versatile.

  • The coolestlooking bodybuilder ever!

They had black and white photos of him in the gym I trained in as a teenager (in Stockholm, Sweden). I had never seen anything like him and still think´s he is the best ever! Check his W-site out. It is GREAT!

  • Arnold could never touch this man for natural perfection!

  • Beautiful, Dave!!! Your ol' friend Helen, aka ZoharahZ

  • this bloke was THE bodybuilder that fascinated me.He looked like he had biceps on top of biceps. He was weiders advert "drink on a pound a day"yeah right!!

  • this is the physique im aiming for,230lbs of sheer beauty!

  • Dave Draper was one of the greatest bodybuilders ever. I had more respect for that man. He was the one who got me started into the sport.

  • A REAL bodybuilder. Dave had no supplements and no drugs when he was at his peak. He had biceps and a back spread like no other. His book is awesome, well written and insightful.

  • HUGE!

  • a rare look into the past of the Blonde Bomber! thanks for sharing

  • always thought dave's biceps were great

  • Awesome posing routine even all these years later.

  • dave draper is the most beautiful bodybuilder of all-time

  • Dave Draper will always be the greatest bodybuilder of all times. God Bless U Dave! =o)

  • Hey, don't forget Dave had a guest appearance on the Monkees also. Dave was and is one of the greats in bodybuilding history. There Zabo, Franco, as well as Don Howlett. So everyone let Terry Bradshaw know this is the real Blonde Bomber! What a classic back pose.

  • Dave is still the best!

  • this guys were the real deal, long live Draper,Pearl,Reeves,Park,Ross,Delinger,Pool,Eiferman, they were for real, ahh and Leroy Colbert.Vic Ramos.

  • One big hail to the BLONDE BOMBER!!!!Even today his musqular development of his body specially his arms and forearms is unbelievable!!!Oe of the greatest!!!!!

  • Dave was the prototype for pencil sized veins in forearms

  • that back will never be bettered

  • IMO all winners of Mr. Universe, Mr. World, or Mr. America deserve to be considered all-time greats. The Olympia has always been political, and deserving men were denied the Olympia title.

  • Don't forget he also appeared on the Beverly Hillbillies!

  • Dave Draper also made a movie with Tony Curtis and Claudia Cardinale,(where he played the boyfriend of Sharon Tate) called "Don't Make Waves"

  • Steve Reeves was retired, Arnold was a teen in Europe. Dave was -the- guy. There were plenty of other BBers in the movies, (the 1st Mr. Olympia, Larry Scott was in some of the same films as Dave), but they were short. The general public wants their BBers to be between 6'0" and 6'3".

  • Dave is the man. His website is awesome.

  • Would love to see more video's of Big Dave preferably at his best like '66 Mr. Universe or '70 Mr. World, NABBA Mr. U where he should have beaten Park.

  • I have never heard of him, but I do have the movie "Don't Make Waves" on tape, where he played Sharon Tate's bodybuilder boyfriend. It was a great movie.

  • Dave had amazing friggin' triceps that mad his arms look huge along with massive delts. He was amazing.

  • what a bamf. great posing. nice and slow.

  • What was Draper in with Dean Martin? There was a body builder in an early sixties movie with Dino and Elizabeth Montgomery. Could that be it?

  • It was "Whos Been Sleeping In My Bed".............Elizabeth Montgomery was in it too. Carol Burnett also!!! Draper also had parts in Lord Love A Duck and of course Don't Make Waves....

  • Dave is so gorgeous with those glistening, rippling muscles. I swear, this video makes want to faint- among other things! BTW, Dave is now even better looking as he gets older. Some dudes have all the luck.

  • Forty years ago ,I wanted to have muscles just like Dave.Nowdays,I want his muscles AND his hair...

  • Dave Draper is the incarnation of "California Muscle." Thousands of people moved to California to live the life he symbolizes. I met him once in 1976 and said out of respect, "Mr. Draper, would you sign this photo?" He laughed and smiled his big smile, and to this day his picture signed "Mr. Draper" hangs over my kitchen table.

  • for europeans dave is considered how a classic californian bodybuilder looks like

  • Its a shame theirs not more vids of Dave Draper on youtube! Probably one of the most massive bodybuilders of his time right up their with Arnie in overall bodyweight! He was also Super Strong for his height in the pressing movements!

  • Dave will always be number one!

  • mellow breakbeat, good vid too

  • thanks so much for posting this rare footage. No modern bodybuilder can match the Blond Bomber!

  • music sounds like midnight cowboy, and Dave looks a little like John Voight with muscles I rate Dave's physique perfect combo of brawn & aesthetics

  • good tune

  • I love the tune, bass is fucking awesome and of course Draper looks the business

  • I composed and recorded it myself for the video. Bass, drums, percussion and, of course, harmonica . . . most of my music was never classified into a genre and I found out the hard way that radio stations hate that :)

  • @joelbrandw i like the music cool and held back

  • great rare video of dave draper thanx vry much

  • Love the music music, can it be downloaded at all?

  • Dave is still soaring with that great NATURAL physique.

    Fly high, Bomber!

  • Dave is still awesome. There is only one Blond Bomber!
