  • Tom is playing his prototype 10 string bass in this clip. Hamer made him the 10 then made him the 12 after they decided the 12 would work.

  • so the stones HAD to have ripped off cheap trick for "when the whip comes down" right?????

  • Great Find here!! But makes me wonder. Van Halens first album didnt come out until a nother year after this performance. Everyone gives EVH credit for inventing the whole hammer on pull off thing. But here is good ol' Rick doing them in his own unique way. Kinda puts the EVH thing to rest. That should start a flame war from the EVH is gawd crowd...lol

  • The two morons who voted dislike must have been Jann Wenner and Mr. Henry.

  • Is there TWO guitars? It sounds like there is another guitar behind the curtain, but it might be just his technique.

God damn, this is chunky and bitchy guitar playing here!

  • It doesn't get much better than the late '70's for this band sometimes...

    they were borderline punk!

  • Is this from a complete show?

  • Seeing them play this in 77 was one of my greatest Rock n roll memories. I never thought I would see/hear it again. You Tube is the best!!! Thanks!!!

  • oh so much cocaine...

  • Rick at his best CT rocks so hard! After all they are number 26 on VH1's 100 greatest hard rock bands of all time!

  • @ThePlum42 Cheap Trick- hard rock? I'd say they've done some heavy songs but they're definitely more RnR than just hard rock. Maybe heavy powerpop (RnR) is more apt?

  • Every Cheap Trick show is a blistering show! Then and now. They are onje of the best live bands ever!

  • So great and crazy. Top 5 american band all time. American bands would agree.

  • @colingawel Agreed!!!!

  • YESSSSSS!!! I KEEP COMING BACK TO THIS MONTH AFTER MONTH AND IT FUCKIN' DELIVERS! Good Job, fellas!

  • Go completely wild!

  • Rollin numbers and got my Kiss records out

  • Cheap Trick shreds!!! My favorite band at their absolute prime. This gets my vote for coolest Cheap Trick video I've ever seen.

  • ATTENTION ON STAGE!!!! Rick at work!!!!

  • did they make Dick Nixons "Black list" ?

  • In the late 70's, no other band could touch these guys. They're still pretty damn good...

  • Tramendous cover...passionate performances! One of my fav videos on here.

  • pure raw rock music

  • This is (and has been for . . . . . *OH CRAP!* . . . . . 30 years!!!!) my favorite Cheap Trick cover - especially the version from the 'Samurai Rock Band' bootleg. That bootleg rules.

  • they must be opening for KISS here, this is awesome

  • Yeah, they were hand picked by KISS to open on the 'LOVE GUN' tour '77..

    They slayed wherever they played....

    KISS fans dug'em!

    Cheap Trick

    Cheap Trick

  • I Don't know Jack.

    So Please Mrs. Henry please.

  • When I'm Drunk This Is The Best Song Ever !

  • One of the greatest rock singers ever - period.

  • You got that right !

  • RZ is superhuman!!

He's got the vocal chords to prove it!

35 years and he hasn't lost an 'octave'!!

    Cheap Trick

    Cheap Trick

  • ...and ONCE AGAIN, the clowns at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame have PASSED OVER Cheap Trick on its list of nominees this year...all because Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner doen't like the band.

Oh yeah...THAT's a valid reason for blocking one of the all-time best rock/pop bands.

Does ANY other band have this large of a catalog over 30+ years and is even STILL TOURING and churing out releases with ALL its original members? NOPE!

  • @mc2NY how long has it been since Rolling Stone magazine was worth anything other that toilet paper? its a senseless waste of trees.

  • @mc2NY Wenner doesn't like Cheap Trick?!? Guess he doesn't like RnR. Go figure!

  • This Rocks!!!!! Never heard it before and I am a big CT fan.

  • i got that boot leg too along w Samurai Rock Band! People used to work hard in the old days to make Vinyl records compared to just slapping cd's off by the hundreds today!!!

  • Now don't crowd me baby I'll fill up your shoes. I'm a sweet lovin' daddy but tonight I am blue. I'm a 1,000 years old and a generous bomb, I'm T-boned and punctured. Don't move,be calm.....

  • Somebody help me here. At the 9 second mark there is a sound four 'notes' long. It is heard at the beginning of Live at Budokan as well. Is that Tom Petersson running a pick over his bass or is it some wierd drum thing or what? What is making that sound?

  • You're correct, it's Tom.

  • I beg to differ. They made it better.

  • That was some tasty vintage Cheap Trick!!!!

  • its been awhile since ive heard this one

  • I'd give anything if they played this in concert again. Hey, anything's possible. I was at their three-night stand in Milwaukee last year and they did "Waitin' for the Man," which they hadn't done in years.

  • I had a Bootleg album called Trick or Treat that was recorded back in the 70's...That was the only time i heard them do this song and I seen Cheap Trick MANY times. This is great. Thanks for posting....Did you ever here them do Coopers"Eighteen"?

  • This is on the Sex America Cheap Trick box set, too. SO GOOD.

  • I have a copy of "Trick or Treat" as well. Great bootleg. I also have "Samurai Rock Band" which is the same show. Between both records you get the whole set. "Samurai Rock Band is shorter, with the opening drum solo of "Ain't That A Shame" missing. Great capturing of CT during this era...very raw and still developing. Even back then I knew they'd make the long haul. It's nice that my favorite band from Jr Hi is still playing and I can see them here in LA Ca at least twice a yesr! CT ROCKS!!!!!!!

  • I think Rick is like a cross between Pee Wee Herman and Ed Norton from the old Honeymooners show. Hey there Ralphie boy !

  • What? You don't remember Satch from the Bowrey Boys?!

  • I heard the "Bowrey Boys" before! Very funny indeed.

  • i never get tired of watching this

  • Performances like that makes you remember what got you hooked on them in the first place. That wa GREAT!!

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome!i love this !How they got this from the dylan song is why they Rock! No one heavier!or scarier than what they laid down on their first album!

  • This is what CT is all about! Love it Love it Love it!

  • Fantastic! I think that the late seventies was Cheap Tricks best period. They were a lot edgier then and not so pop. Tom really looked cool in those days. He hasn't aged well.

  • You can say what you want about Tom's looks..BUT the guy doesn't give a shit. He's a happily married father now. I can tell you personally that he's a better Bass player now than he ever was in the 70's..

  • This is fabulous, thanks for posting it!

  • Damn...that's smokin'!! Thanks!
