Great Find here!! But makes me wonder. Van Halens first album didnt come out until a nother year after this performance. Everyone gives EVH credit for inventing the whole hammer on pull off thing. But here is good ol' Rick doing them in his own unique way. Kinda puts the EVH thing to rest. That should start a flame war from the EVH is gawd crowd...lol
@ThePlum42 Cheap Trick- hard rock? I'd say they've done some heavy songs but they're definitely more RnR than just hard rock. Maybe heavy powerpop (RnR) is more apt?
This is (and has been for . . . . . *OH CRAP!* . . . . . 30 years!!!!) my favorite Cheap Trick cover - especially the version from the 'Samurai Rock Band' bootleg. That bootleg rules.
...and ONCE AGAIN, the clowns at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame have PASSED OVER Cheap Trick on its list of nominees this year...all because Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner doen't like the band.
Oh yeah...THAT's a valid reason for blocking one of the all-time best rock/pop bands.
Does ANY other band have this large of a catalog over 30+ years and is even STILL TOURING and churing out releases with ALL its original members? NOPE!
i got that boot leg too along w Samurai Rock Band! People used to work hard in the old days to make Vinyl records compared to just slapping cd's off by the hundreds today!!!
Now don't crowd me baby I'll fill up your shoes. I'm a sweet lovin' daddy but tonight I am blue. I'm a 1,000 years old and a generous bomb, I'm T-boned and punctured. Don't move,be calm.....
Somebody help me here. At the 9 second mark there is a sound four 'notes' long. It is heard at the beginning of Live at Budokan as well. Is that Tom Petersson running a pick over his bass or is it some wierd drum thing or what? What is making that sound?
I'd give anything if they played this in concert again. Hey, anything's possible. I was at their three-night stand in Milwaukee last year and they did "Waitin' for the Man," which they hadn't done in years.
I had a Bootleg album called Trick or Treat that was recorded back in the 70's...That was the only time i heard them do this song and I seen Cheap Trick MANY times. This is great. Thanks for posting....Did you ever here them do Coopers"Eighteen"?
I have a copy of "Trick or Treat" as well. Great bootleg. I also have "Samurai Rock Band" which is the same show. Between both records you get the whole set. "Samurai Rock Band is shorter, with the opening drum solo of "Ain't That A Shame" missing. Great capturing of CT during this era...very raw and still developing. Even back then I knew they'd make the long haul. It's nice that my favorite band from Jr Hi is still playing and I can see them here in LA Ca at least twice a yesr! CT ROCKS!!!!!!!

Fantastic! I think that the late seventies was Cheap Tricks best period. They were a lot edgier then and not so pop. Tom really looked cool in those days. He hasn't aged well.
You can say what you want about Tom's looks..BUT the guy doesn't give a shit. He's a happily married father now. I can tell you personally that he's a better Bass player now than he ever was in the 70's..
Tom is playing his prototype 10 string bass in this clip. Hamer made him the 10 then made him the 12 after they decided the 12 would work.

The two morons who voted dislike must have been Jann Wenner and Mr. Henry.

Is there TWO guitars? It sounds like there is another guitar behind the curtain, but it might be just his technique.
God damn, this is chunky and bitchy guitar playing here!

It doesn't get much better than the late '70's for this band sometimes...
they were borderline punk!
