The Sengoku series are a lot more action based and only LOOSELY base their stories on the actual history. Samurai Warriors is a lot more accurate history-wise but isn't quite as unique as Sengoku. As for starting out, it doesn't really matter. Story is even less of a concern then in the warrior series in these games.

The anime has become one of my favourite animes actually though and if the games are as over the top as the anime i will probably enjoy them. Which do you recommend I get? I normally get the newest because games like the Warriors games used to improve but since the last two Samurai Warriors games i dont think thats true anymore. Samurai Warriors 1 was the best by far.

Koei made Samurai warriors which was a Koei's Japanese version of Koei's longer serie's of game called Dynasty Warriors which have been around for 14 years. when Koei made Samurai Warriors they borrowed a lot of ideas from their older game series Dynasty Warriors. So in fact Sengoku BASARA 2 HEROES is a rip-off of both Franchises Dynasty/Samurai Warriors.Plus the warrior series have way better voice actors too.

Honestly. Samurai Warriors is better. Ieyasu wasnt a young, slender man; but an fat man. Sengoku Basara may seem better but I tend to stick with the game that had the original characters and ideas made by Koei :]

If you took SW's Kotaro and put him in Basara with updated skills, I bet he'd be one of the best characters. I played the 3rd SB effortlessly with every character except Kotaro. He is almost useless on the ground and weak as heck. Shuriken was awesome but spamming that gets boring. I don't wanna knock every single group of enemies into the air just to do the same air combo for an entire level either. I'll take SW's Kotaro over SB's

@LordTaoTang - Well, I've seen character designs like that (ninja boy) several other times before. Take for example Hokutomaru from Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Him and this Ranmaru are exactly the same character.

Granted, I don't like the way KOEI made Ranmaru almost a tranny, but his personality (loyal and unwavering to Nobunaga but having some respect for the enemies) was played to the letter. This Ranmaru sounds like your typical annoying brat.

@LordTaoTang - It's also true that KOEI had a more romanticized view of the characters, but some of their portrayals were, even though saccharine, better than Capcom. Take Mitsuhide and Ieyasu, Capcom ruined them as much as they did Ranmaru.

@LordTaoTang - Well, that is arguable. Samurai Warriors 2 was all about Mitsuhide (and of course Yukimura), and KOEI made it a point of developing his love-hate relationship with Nobunaga.

Unfortunately I don't have a PS3, so playing Sengoku Basara 3 isn't in my possibilities as of now, but I will as soon as I get the chance. On the character design however, they made Ieyasu look like a kid! KOEI's Ieyasu looks more credible, even the Kagemusha film by Akira Kurosawa depicts him like KOEI.

@LordTaoTang - Well, that depends on the game. I admit Samurai Warriors 1 has nothing on Sengoku Basara, but Samurai Warriors 2 was a huge improvement. Still, Sengoku Basara has better graphics and faster-paced action. It's too bad I can't understand Japanese LOL, that's the only problem with Capcom games. I just don't like the way they made Ranmaru, Ieyasu and Mitsuhide is all.

But other than that, Tadakatsu, Shingen and Musashi look badass, and I like Capcom's Masamune better than KOEI.

They also made Kenshin look like a woman, and don't get me started on Nobunaga (KOEI outclasses Capcom there). And I like KOEI's Motochika better, he looks like a rock star. Capcom's one looks like Mitsuhide - an unoriginal crazy demon.

@LordTaoTang - Hmm... hard to pick between KOEI and Capcom's Yoshihiro, there's no Ginchiyô in Sengoku Basara, but come on, Nobunaga's "devil's advocate" persona in Samurai Warriors is a lot more complex and deeper than the domineering tyrant in Sengoku Basara. And since when does Nobunaga carry a sword in one hand and a SAWED-OFF SHOTGUN in another? What is this, Sengoku period or a mafia movie? I'd understand if it was Magoichi Saika, but that's not any way to portray the mighty Demon King.

In fact my top 3 sengoku basara characters are Takenaka Hanbei, Mouri Motonari, and Kenshin Uesugi (I hate what Koei did to these 3 characters in Samurai Warriors, they are atrocious)

KOEI made Nagamasa unrealistic and stupid (and that's why they gave him blond hair LOL), what kind of Samurai would wield a knight's lance? And their Oichi looks like the typical flower princess girl.

Capcom's Shingen looks way better even though KOEI's one of my favorites, and KOEI made Masamune a brat, this one looks meaner and tougher.

As for Yukimura, both versions are so well made it's an unbreakable tie.

And they made Nobunaga so captivating that even a bad-guy-hating player could want to join his cause. Not the case for Capcom's one.

He is one of the few characters that isn't obsessed with something (hanzo won't shut the fuck up about shadows, for example), and he is so awsome he conquers all of japan because he feels like it, then hands it all over to Ieyasu simply because he is bored with it.

I like both Koei and Capcom. I played all DW, SW and SB. SB is a replica of SW? Who cares? Capcom did a way better job. How the character is designed, the special moves, how this game is so larger than life and entertaining,....

After how DW6 turns out, I lost my faith in Koei. Although SW3 is cool, it still can't catch up to SB3.

@liukang777 sort of agree, DW6 was shite, DW7 will be amazing but in all honesty SW 3 and SB 3 are so different in presentation and style I don't think they are as comparable, SW3 has much more free roaming, characters and maps while SB 3 has more personality and colour both are good they are just different.

@Mocolashandaful That was Noh, and this is just an "alternate version" of Samurai Warriors. The characters have the same names, and looking carefully, they share similarities with the ones from SW. This game series, however, is not as historiclly correct as SW, and instead focuses on "overpowered" characters and more flashy and devastating attacks.

It is Sengoku Basara 2 heroes a japan only release made by capcom while based on the same timeline and for the most part characters the designs differ greatly. The Sengoku Basara series is not as historically accurate giving it a more loose feel too it, the first Sengoku Basara is the only one to be released in america under the title "Devil Kings"

I'm thinking that Koei and Capcom should trade off characters.

I've wanted to see Hanbei, Matsu, Kojuro, Ujimasa, and Sasuke as characters in SW

but I've also wanted to see Nene, Katsuie, Kojiro, Okuni, Magoichi, Mitsunari, Sakon, Ginchiyo, Kanetsugu, and Gracia in Sengoku Basara (in fact, I'm still waiting on the english version of this game!!)

I'm sure that Koei will do this eventually, but not Capcom.
