  • awesome video. Just a tip for those trying to learn the song the mystery high chord at "thrown their backs out, trying to lift it." and "but the feeling never did." is an A7

    played like this

    E--0

    B--2

    G--0

    D--2

    A--0

    E--x

  • @tecumsehband What is the strumming pattern?

  • thaaaaaaaaaank you!

    such a beautiful song...

gonna name my daughter Lua =)

  • Thanks a lot.

Just a small thing -- if you look at him playing it on youtube videos (e.g. conchella) he's playing a C with a G in the bass shape (C/G). Not a big difference I guess.

  • What is the chord at 0:41? Please reply :)

  • @Fentoman Am

  • @Fentoman D chord

  • I play the uke, not the guitar.. could you possibly list the chords used?

  • @whettj22 the chord shapes are G, C, Am, and D but it's capo on 7th fret

  • @whettj22 He's really playing C (G), F (C), Dm (Am), and G (D), so just play those chords on ukulele.

  • Haha its not him singing.....the reason it sounds just like conor is because it is conor. lol

  • thank you so much!

  • thanks so much for all of your videos! they've really helped me!

  • Easy song, but video well done.

By the way, your fingering for A minor is weird.

  • ? - XX(12)999

I don't get this one lol

  • I entertained the idea, too. You sound just like him.

  • thanks bro :)

  • pretty sweet dude

  • Many thanks ( and praises )

  • Have you tried to play your G, with 2, 3, and four fingers...I've just found that it's so much easier, especially on this one, to go the the C's, and A, after the g! Hope that helps...

  • gret video. you dont mean tecumseh as in the great native leader? you're canadian, eh!?

  • cool thanks

  • heyy... you sound like conorr

  • oh my god!!!!! i am so excited! thank you so much!!

  • I just got my guitar two days ago and i'm still super learning. Can anyone tell me the stroke patterns? I'm confused. I can't mimic it. it looks like he's just going up down up up down. but it doesn't sound right when I play it.

    :D thank you!

  • @indielover08 hi, I had the same problem, now i think i have the right stroke pattern: 1º:bass strings (4, 5 and 6) down, 2º:all strings down, 3º:high strings (1, 2 and 3) up, 4º: high strings down, 5º high strings up. I hope you understand my bad Engish, sorry, I´m from Spain. Good luck!

  • this is great

  • Love this I am starting a band and it i always goodto start in covers. Please OxfordComma Vampire weekend

  • like they say, just listen :)

    upstrokes sound tinnier.

if that makes ANY sense :D

    good luck.

now im gna try and learn it hehehe =]

  • Thank You!

  • say, do you know any bob dylan songs?

  • I just finished learning this song thanks to this video thanks :)

I just cant get the singing down with it. Singing and playing is a whole nother thing to me heh.

  • whisper it then get louder and louder slowly tho worked for me

  • @MarsVoltaKA it get's easy way to do it, well the way i found was to just play and play and play it with people constantly distracting me till eventually i could play the song and hold a conversation at the same time :) As for the tutorial i'm certain the chord labled as "?" is just A7. It's usually tabbed as A7 sounds right when i play it and is alot eay to get into. A7 - x02020

  • I'm convinced you're actually Conor.

I haven't seen a wrong tutorial yet so yeah keep it up

    -T

  • haha!

    thanks a lot.

  • is he playing on nylon strings?

  • no, those are just regular guitar strings.

  • @srbisthugnasty210 The original song is played with nylon strings.

  • Damn son, I checked out some other tabs for this online and gave up almost right away, then I looked up Landlocked Blues again and found your vid for it, my original comment (and I stand by it, though I've improved :D), and saw this vid, and I gotta say, within the past 15 or minutes, I've learned a new Bright Eyes song. So thanks again! Keep on tabbing in the tube world!

  • thank you, i most certainly will.

  • this is really helpful, thanks

  • I'm going to break my teath on it till I'll make it!

thank you very much, you are awesome.

  • wow youre stupid

  • this made me laugh.

  • ahahaha! It *is* Conor Oberst. He's just playing guitar to Conor singing...

  • ohhh thanks a lot lol

  • tabs!!!

  • look in the video description for tabs.

  • this is damn good.

sounds like heaven on my ovation, thanks so much.

  • those are really nice guitars.

  • i just started to play guitar, could ne1 tab this out for me or give me a good site, ive looked around but i cant figure out what to hit when, ive tryed to watch this and listen but i guess my ear isnt that good, so if some1 could help me out that would b greatly appriciated, thanks

  • he puts all the chrods you need on the right. to me thats a lot easier than tabs. Capo on the 7th fret and just play at your pace. its a pretty easy song

  • thank you.

  • the C in the verse is supposed to be a C/G. other than that, good job

  • Thanks for posting all of these man. The only one I have learned so far is Lua and I really want to learn your other ones. I am completely and utterly obbsessed with Bright Eyes and now, thanks to you, with guitar as well.

  • hey man what tipe of guitar is it because every song you've made it sounds great

  • thank one is called a norman.

    i also use a mansfield.

  • how would you play this without a capo?

  • i dont think that you can.

  • I often play this song using exactly the same chord shapes at the root (no capo). It changes the key but it's still easy enough to sing along to, although obviously not along to the original record.

In fact I only came on here because it'd been a while since I did it properly and I couldn't remember what fret to capo at.

  • Oh, and while I'm commenting. I'm not saying it's better, but for the the ? chord (technically an A-minor/A-sharp - but would be an A7 if you mute the high-E string too) I play a straight A7 - x02020.

  • what guitar are you playing right here it looks sick.

  • you know what? this isnt my guitar and i cant remember what kind of guitar it was...sorry.

  • i have a problem with the chorus..don't get the strumming..but thank you very much because this is one of my favourite songs..!

  • You rock, man. Partly because of you I've picked up the guitar again.

  • cool! i love to hear stuff like that!

  • THANKS!!!

    :D

  • The C has an added Low G and the mystery chord in the chorus is actually an A7

  • thanks!

  • Arg, I don't know how to strum for this song. D:

  • thanks!

  • no problem.

  • HI! i am just learmomg hpw to play the guitar and I have to say you really help when it comes to actually making it happen. its just kinda hard right now to read the notes and all. so i just want to say youre awesome and dont stop! YOure an inspiration to us all.

  • thank you so much! i make videos because of you. well, people like you that is.

  • haha dont worry we got the message. All of us

  • ye really though ur amazing thanks so much, alot easier to learn this way! ur karma must be glowing haha!

  • Thanks so much for taking the time to create these video's. You've made learning these songs much easier on us!!! Hey what is the chord that looks like a bar chord played in the chorus?

  • ? - XX(12)999

is that the one you are talking about?

im not sure what it is called.

  • It's Amaj11, Thanks for all the help.

  • thanks i had all but that chord where you gotta really stretch for it right i was using a7 lol

  • 2nd comment on video, but, can you do Blue Angels Air Show? That's a neat song.

    -_-

  • You're an amazing guitarist.

  • thanks. i dont think i am that great, but thanks anyways!

  • Hey, I think when Conor goes "lift it", it's A7 which is D on second fret and B on second fret. But I really appreciate all of the "how to plays " you post. They're really good and useful.

  • thanks!

  • hey this is really awsome. can you post a video of how to play "its cool, we can still be friends"? please?

  • 7th fret capo, indeed?!

    :]

  • im not sure if that is a question or a statement. but yes the capo is on the 7th fret.

  • Can you do A Bowl of Oranges?

  • maybe, the song seems easy enough but there is one chord that is really bothering me. i want to be sure of it before i make a video and have people rip me up for making a mistake.

  • Thanks man! I've been watching your videos for a while now and they've really helped. Oh yea, capo on... 7th fret?

  • yep, 7th fret.

  • DUDE YOU ROCK I AM SO SUSCRIBING!!! ive been waiting to learn how to play that song for so long!!

  • thanks a lot! i had been meaning to do a video of it for a really long time and i just never got around to it.

im glad that i finally did though.

  • wow this song is so much easier now that uve showed us how to do it! thanks oodles and noodles worth =)

  • no problem!

  • i've been waiting for this song, thank you.

i think i saw you in kalamazoo, maybe.

  • really? how would you know that it was me?

  • I can't wait to try this one out! Thanks a lot for posting it=).

  • cool, no problem.

  • oh my! thanks oh so much. i've been waiting for this song from you for ages! :D

  • no problem.

  • I was wondering what he played in the chorus for ages!

    Thank you!

  • i am quite sure that those are right so im glad to help out.

  • fantastic!

i'm new to the guitar, so i was wondering what that thing was that you have on the neck of the guitar?

and is it possible to play this song without it?

    please excuse my ignorance, thanks!

  • hey, thats called a capo. you technically could play the song without one but it would be hard, especially for someone who is new at guitar. I would recommend buying one. You can pick one up at a guitar shop for under $20. they are totally worth it. there are a lot of songs that use capos. i have 7 or 8 bright eyes songs alone posted that use one.

    think about it.

  • thanks, i will!

  • wow its $20 in canada? its only like $10 bucks in the states! man, Canada is so much more expensive, why is that?

  • i dont really know. i think it is bc of shipping and tariffs from the states. that is just a guess though.

  • "ive got a flask inside my pocket we can share it on the train"
