  • It's a bit of a mystery to me, I've written Hot Rod magazine and suggested doing a direct power train loss comparison (engine dyno runs, then same engine in car with automatics or stick-shift setups, same rear end, on chassis dyno) then a real-world result test on the track to see whether different setups compensate for eating more power.

  • I have a web page with both the dyno run information sheets - Bruce Fulper's notes are on there, including the "+50" on the HP and torque. add "TransAmPage.htm" to my site URL, Google won't let me post the whole link for some reason. Based on the general drive train losses however it appears the engine was making less on the chassis dyno, however I've seen some other tests showing a heavy-duty TH400 appearing to eat up a bunch of HP.

  • This dyno showed 458 HP @ 5850 RPM to the rear wheels, tapered off just a touch through 6300, torque 430 @ pretty much from 4500 - 5600 RPM. The interesting thing is this engine on the engine dyno at Rock and Roll Engineering produced either 635 HP or 685 HP (it was the first engine he tested after checking it against a known engine and he noted on the sheet it was reading 50 HP low).

  • Well whats the result on that bad machine!

  • Sweet ride man.
