It's interesting to learn that the movements of the second concerto did not appear chronologically, the frist appearing after the second and third. It's also interesting that the composer was worried by the form of the first movement when it is surely one of his finest structures. Also intriguing are the circumstances of his marriage. @paulprocopolis It is touching to realise that Sergei was insecure about his worth as a musician and needed constant reassurance. I think the grim exterior was developed to protect himself , His letters conceal a dry wit and acute observation of the current scene at that moment in history, .....
The first letter I read from Rachmaninov was written on July 18th 1900 from Milan to his life long friend Morozov, who he leaned on heavily for advice and comfort.and without his letters ,he fretted and pleaded .The good result of that is revealed in this video,,,,,,

Thank you for the video.I was interested about his personal life.
I recall reading years ago a book with Tchaikovsky's letters, mostly to his brother, and his reflections on life and his travels were amazing to read.
Same here about his marriage.
