Doesn't look like struggeling to me. Labor of love always feels that way. And you never ever seem to do the subject the justice they so deerly deserve.
A wrapped canvas is where the canvas goes all the way around the framing - therefore the artist has to paint the sides. This keeps you from having to frame the piece. Thanks for your kind words and subscribing!
The studio is working our really well - thanks for asking. I love warehouses too - it just 'feels' creative. Thank you for subscribing and your kind words.
This is very good. His eyes have a real sense of life to them. Because the portrait is done so well I will focus on the fact that I think the background looks like it is to close, it could be pushed back or if you want it to appear as if he is leaning on it, you could introduce a shadow (right side). It is just that the portrait is so convincing and well done that right now the brick is taking away just a little. Over all great job!
Thank you so much for your input. I may take your advice and work on that brick. It's great to get "new" eyes on it and fellow artist's opinions. I certainly value your artistic opinion. Thank you again!
Great build up of colors. The backgroung is not my favorite, but its painted ok. To me its too senior photo, but I can be guilty of the same thing. But the overall product is awesome!
Thank you for your input. I will certainly take into better consideration about the 'senior photo'pose - your right though and I will certainly re-think the pose of my model next time. Thanks again!
I'm with clubsoda921's comment on this "portraits are the hardest that's why I don't do them" ;) I hope hubby appreciated having the side of his head 'reconstructed' (that just sounded funny to me). I thought overall you did rather a good job. Seemed a good likeness and the eyes definitely look like they have 'life' in them (eyes are critical in portraits - so easy to end up with 'doll' eyes).
That's awesome! I do pencil portraits, so I admire those who are portrait painters; with pencil, it's easy to erase and do over, but you have to go through all that trouble of painting over to get the details just right.
I like the layers of color used for the painting; it really does give it a lifelike dimension.
I enjoyed watcing this! Not too many portrait artists on youtube that PAINT portraits . lots of sketching and digital but not paint. Doing ears is a challenge and 3/4 portraits are more so. great job!
That was really good! Portrait art is a challenge but I find painting a portrait to be the most challenging. I have started taking up painting portraits this summer and have a long way to go. I found your video very useful! Great work!

Never argue with anybody about your art. Why you think lines like: "This is artistic license." and "This is how I see you." were invented? :-)
I showed paintings I did a few times before they were finished and it always leads to discussion. Specially portraits.
You can improve at every painting but listening to your subject is, in my experiencing, always a source of ... 'AAARG' and almost never helpful.
I think you got it the first time :)

I like both versions very much... Here is an idea: Do a Van Gogh version next time. >:-)

What's a 'wrapped canvas'? I probably know but don't know the term (not being a native speaker and all).
