Start nailing on one side and work across so you don't bind the middle or rip the arch... I always make it wider so I can trim back the sides to a perfect fit then skim coat the whole arch with joint compound.
There are several ways to drywall an archway. The preferred method is to use 1/4" drywall and wet the back. You can even wet the back of 1/2" drywall and get it to bend to some archways.

Video currently being played shows scoring the back of the drywall board. This method is common for DIYer's and people who don't ordinarily drywall for a living.***
@robciurobciu I agree with wetting the drywall first. Just thought I would show various methods of how it is done. You should check out "How to drywall a barrel vault ceiling" to see the method you are describing
I've been wanting to do this in our kitchen where we have a pass through wall, and you make it look so easy and your steps are very clear! I have a great husband who knows how to do a little bit of everything and I know your videos will help us accomplish our archway!! Thank you so much for posting this!!!
the best way of doing that its to wet the back side of the plasterboard and bend it on the arch. i'v done it like that and its much better and easier.
Yeah lol i had a spare piece of drywall out side and it got rained on and it made a perfect arch and it it fit's perfectly above my shower so im using it above my shower...
Thanks for the video ! you guys are the best !! I'm doing new and improve ideas on a 1920's dutch colonial. Our stoop has a arch and I was wanting to add something like this on the iside to give the home a nice flow. currently there is a wall dividing our living area to the stairwell. This is where I will be adding the nice size archway. Expect to be hearing from me!
thanks!! It is always nice to read a great comment, no to mention it always gets my day off on the right foot!! If you can, take some before and after pictures, I would love to show them in my blog!
no problem! if for some reason you have trouble with this method, you can always get 1/4" drywall and just apply a double layer as well. I find using a flexible drywall in 1/4" helps with tighter radius's.
idk but this guy is nice with it

@atranos wanted to show different ways of drywalling an archway. See How to drywall a barrel vault - We show 1/4" being used there.

The white dude said. "I'm going to show you how to drywall an arch." He got one hell of a tan from the intro to the drywalling portion of the video.

try double layers of 1/4 inch flex board
rosellethomas 1 year ago
at 2:50 the best way to do that is screw it up there and then cut it with sawzaw or Jigsaw.
