La voix est décidément l'instrument le plus beau qui soit (j'en ai la chair de poule...)

  • I'm Speechless.

Arrangement is so not-crazy-wild type, but a great style balance. Help me you music majors, what am I trying to say?

  • Beautiful. You've made my Xmas sweeter. Would you send me the separated voices in mp3?

  • @ocariocao I know what you're trying.

Trust me, if he would do that, it wouldn't

    be art anymore...

  • Très réussi! On en finit par oublier le costume (super idée), et à n'écouter que ta voix. Un vrai plaisir. Bonnes fêtes!

  • VERY NICE HARMONIES! Thank you for sharing!

  • You don't need a gimmick and now it's so obvious that you are playbacking.

  • Yeah this one is playback...I couldn't do it other...try to sing in a mic with a fake Santa beard loool !! =)

  • @jibcraip You mean, there are times when you don't playback? Does that mean you rerecord, or do you sometimes get it perfect on the first try?

  • @trlkly see "the christmas song"...it's one take for each voices =)

  • @jibcraip I already have. That is awesome that you did it in one take. BTW--how high can you get in your falsetto?

  • @trlkly depends on the days, warming up etc. I can go to high Bb sometimes higher but never higher than soprano's high D (except with whistle voice !)

  • @JustLocal: I don't see anything wrong in that. When doing a complex video it's way too hard to handle the singing at the same time. You would always have to throw away a take in case something with the video *or* the singing goes wrong.

I'm pretty sure on professional video clips they are almost always lip-syncing their own recording. And I see videos like this one as a video clip and not as a live performance on a stage where it's lame IMHO to lip-sync. But I know: Many do, unfortunately.

  • @JustLocal no shit sherlock.

  • Love it Jean! Always manage to make me smile.

  • Kind of a creepy looking Santa... But sounds great!!!

  • ur just amazing !!!!! how do u do it lol

  • merry christmas and wonderful job!

  • You sing so in tune. It's so great. Which is probably a weird compliment.

So to be like everyone else - and say - It's great :) Love it. <3

  • Wonderful man, I'm not a big fan of christmas songs... In fact I don't like them at all. But you've done a great job on this one dude! Very relaxed and soulful :) Thanks

  • Thanks Santa for this nice Christmas song :). The singing is very nice as usual!

The video looks nice too. But it would have been even nicer without notable cuts between the singe videos. That way it would have looked as if they were actually standing in a row. Maybe a white restore filter, making everything perfectly white which is above a certain threshold, would have would have done the trick. Well, at least a black restore filter for my more or less black backgrounds on Jungle Book worked.

  • My thought was to do so...but I couldn't with the video I recorded... :-( so this is the only solution I found !!

  • The cleanest way to do that would of course be using chroma key. You could try a green table cloth or bed sheet. The most difficult problem is getting a uniform lighting without any shadows (I guess that was also the reason why a white restore filter didn't work on this video). But with a little patience experimenting with different lights you can make it work.

  • There is also another way to do that which is much easier to handle: Position your camera on a fix position and zoom out quite a bit. Then stand at a position where you only fill at max 1/4 of the screen, standing at the appropriate position in the screen for the voice you are going to record (for instance on the left side for the tenor).

After you recorded 4 videos like that, you can just cut them together, using only 1/4 of the width of each video. I hope I made any sense, explaining it ... :)

  • This is what I did ! lol but somehow, the camera wasn't at the very same position and with my large size (lol) I took more than 1/4 of the screen...so I had to zoom out so that the 4 videos would appear in the screen !! =/ but thanks for the info !!

  • Ah, I see. Yes, you should

    1. use a stand,

    2. set all parameters of your camera manually (lighting, focus, etc.) to make sure the settings are exactly the same for all videos,

    3. yeah, fill at max 1/4 of the screen for each video, of course :).

The main disadvantage of that method is that you can't replace the background with another one. But well, there is a way around that, too: Difference Masking. You'll find a nice tutorial for that when googling for "Difference Masking Sony Vegas".

  • @Partyburner that's how I did it and look at my crappy video of wait till the sun shines Nellie... it stinks man. Chroma Key is the way to go! Because it's just to much guessing with the 1/4 method :).

  • @Sonny: What's crappy about your video? It looks fine to me. The "cloning effect" worked out pretty well, I think.

And what do you mean by "too much guessing"? Well, you always have to "guess" where the other persons are standing, because they are not actually there when you record a part. But that's the same for chroma key, too---except if you have a full-size pupped of yourself in the color of the chroma screen ;).

  • I really don't like the result of my latest video. The video on itself takes away the quality of the song as well. I can enjoy the tag way more with my eyes closed :). It is indeed guessing where you stood in you previous shot. When that isn't the deal with chroma key, because you edit the stuff later on and then put a background on it... is that not the way it works? Why the hell do we have to be directors and video editors as well? why can't we just be singers and appreciated for that :)

  • Ok, I see your point. But I still think it's easier to handle with that "1/x screen" method. Have you ever tried chroma key? The lighting thing is so incredible difficult! I tried for many hours and what I did in my Tube & Berger Jingle was the best I could manage.

In the future I think I'll go with the "1/x method" in cases I don't need to replace the background.

  • And yeah, I know what you mean. But doing a fancy video can be fun, too---don't you think? It somewhat enhances the singing, IMHO.

When it looks better, it kind of sounds better. Or at least it will make people tend to give better ratings. The two "Go the Distance" videos from runawaytrainbobsaget are the best example. The audio is identical but the one with split screen got a much better rating!

  • Hey ! Sympa le déguisement! et les jeux de lumière...

    a demain

  • Awesome video! merry christmas

  • Lol, great fun, even better singing! Keep posting! 5*
