  • Try honey, no expiry date

  • You would be surprised how long canned food last.. many people throw away perfectly good food not knowing that there isn't anything wrong with it. When in doubt, open it up! I recently used a can of tomato paste marked 2006... guess what.. we didn't die. Never use a can that is bulged, Or does not smell right!

  • tinned tuna has almost doubled in price over the past 18 mths in the UK......prob is that its the only thing my cat will really eat and enjoy........luckilly hes a spoilt cat so i dont mind the price increase although its extortionate

  • Are you for real?? Is the concept of canning this unknown?? Jeeze, canned foods can hold for 50-60 yrs...

  • the video is getting popular because of the survival... people think its part of the SHTF and WROL vids

  • @DonSlipDubO55 I agree... even the moron's i mean mormons are making vids of their churches can sealer sharing thing... I say this either start canning food or buying ammo lol

  • @gwinplumbr with ammo u get food and respect

  • I have a feeling that someday this video will become viral. I uploaded this video over three years ago but only since like a month or two ago I'm suddenly getting shitload of views and comments here.

  • Its called 90% food preservatives

  • @anthonyontherocks No it's called canning and salt.

  • In 1970 we ate C Rats from the late 40's. Seemed OK.

  • It will last even longer than that. I've eaten canned soup that was 3 years PAST expiration, and it wasn't bad at all!

  • @Chadolution I just ate some canned fruit that expired in Feb 2004. a lot of the flavor was gone, but it was fine.

  • @NHRHS2010 Sir, a study was done at a major University, can't remember the name, but some canned food recovered from a ship wreak that happened around 100 years ago was tested and still found to be viable, bacteria within acceptable standards. As long as the can has not been punctured, it can last way beyond the expiration date!!

  • its probably cram filled with preservatives.

  • @ididntmakethisname The theory is that a can that has not been punctured or exposed to extreme heat can go way beyond expiration and still be safe, because it is basically in a sterile, nearly vacuum environment. So, high levels of preservatives are not required and anyway salt is one of the most common preservatives.

  • On your phhoto of the tuna can, I would not suggest that you store this style of can. Not because of the contents, but of the pull tab. Over a period of time the seams can and will seperate no matter of the experation date. I would highly suggest that you instead use those cans that you would need a can opener. Those can take pressure can will stand the storage times...

  • Even thought this is acouple of years late. I would not think of using that type of can to store. The seam would come apart too quick. I would and do use only cans that are sealed, only to use a can opener would be better.

  • thats the magic of salt and sugar :) i've got canned beans and other vegetables that last 6 years. and that's only the time they put on it, chances are you could still eat it after 8 years!

  • @MrRubidub69 Also, it's the best grub around, but out "space food" is live veal. It get's really close to the taste of humans! Most people say that pigs are better, but we don't have the space to have them all walking around.(And we don't like pigs) That's omnicron 7, they have the fancy space ships and the big ass palaces and such...

  • This video is suddenly getting so popular. I have no idea why.

  • @NHRHS2010

alot of people trying to save money i'd guess

  • @NHRHS2010 .. because it simply raises a good point about food shelf life.. keep it cool and dry and it will last

  • @NHRHS2010 People are searching for "Preppers" :)

  • @NHRHS2010 The end is near...Havent you heard? ;)

  • If its in a can it will last that long and more!!

  • Most informative video of the day...

  • well the can looked like it was from korea and its well known that they dont really have strong enforced FDA.

  • how in the hell did the people in The City of Ember survive two hundred years on canned food?

  • @MrShaun42088 That's a great question...I have no idea. Source on City of Ember people? Because the world's oldest person (confirmed) passed away at age 122.

  • I had cans that became rotten before the expiration date and the can wasn't opened

  • Oil-packed canned fish usually does have a long shelf. If you're buying canned tuna for long-term food storage, always buy the oil-packed. It does have more calories than the water-packed, but that would be the least of your worries.

  • food is like tits it's only good for the first few years then they are laying down flat

  • Check out eFoods direct, their food is good for at least 15 years...

  • GET manual can openers lots of them....the things break easy. And there will not be electricity.

  • @dogcomb47 will a knife do ?

  • @dogcomb47 and dont have that much free money just use a stone to break the seal

  • I was in the Army testing cans of C rations in 1981 The range was 10 years. The food is still edible but looses a little flavor and tomato stuff gets lighter in color. We didn't get sick or die so it must be OK. Better than starving.

  • @dogcomb47 Well that's not surprising. I've also eaten space food even though I'm not an astronaut or alien or anything. They are basically freeze-dried food.

  • @NHRHS2010 Well, i'm an alien, and the only "space food" we have is veal. Lots, and LOTS of veal. (Baby cows)

  • @Bodysmoker Which planet are you from? Zahor??

  • @NHRHS2010 No, i'm from omnicron 5... Duh... Are you from Zahor? Isn't that the ice planes? Are you calling me a yeti?

  • @Bodysmoker No I'm from Earth. And I never knew that Zahor is an icy planet so I am not calling you a yeti.

  • @NHRHS2010 How can you not know that Zahor is an Ice planet? Can't you read a universe map?! -.-

  • @Bodysmoker First of all, I am not an alien. I am a regular human who does not have any plans to leave Earth so there's no need for a universe map.

  • @NHRHS2010 Well... That's boring...

  • @NHRHS2010 The Zahorians have developed radioactive gajiblutes to keep the ice flows at bay.

  • @dogcomb47 thats funny because in Army Cadets I ate Korean War IMP's. they were good, but the ww2 ones were not :(

  • @dogcomb47 So they used you like they use lab rats... ? just asking , saying peace

  • @spirituallypeace Yeah, that's pretty much it, brother. I was threatened with article 15 back in the 80's when I refused to take shot that they wouldn't tell me what it was for. Come to find out it was experimental stuff.

  • @10yearvet That is really interesting because I too was given an "experimental" shot during the early 80's.

  • after 6 yrs it becomes cat food.

  • Comment removed

  • @YiuTeub Wow, just wow. I understand if you don't like tuna. I like seafood myself but we all have preferences in which food to like or not. And I can see that regardless of whether I like tuna or not, I would definitely not eat ones that are more than five years old, regardless of expiration date.

  • @YiuTeub whats the wait ?

  • @badapplez1 Tuna is not all that is left. DUH.

  • @YiuTeub, good one less asshole!

  • @halfasser Because I hate tuna means I am an asshole. Good one. I will take down the comment since I am among super tuna fans that love vast amounts of mercury in their food. You will die before me by eating this shit.

  • actually several universities and the fda have done a study which involved testing 100 year old cans of food for contamination, their conclusion-its safe to eat, message me for the link

  • @thenvdude I would like to see that link, if you don't mind. I can alot of food and process my own wild game. My wife does the coupon deals, etc. We stockpile a bit, but rotate and use what we store. There's no use in having all that food and it going bad. I know the USDA recommends using about everything in a year. I have gone 3-4 times that in my own canned goods and have never got sick. If you have a bad jar of food, from experience, you know it once you open it. Thanks!

  • Tinned food will save us when the inevitable zombie apocalypse comes!

  • in Army cadets we ate baked beans which were from World war 2 in 1940. they were fine. tinned food will last forever as long as the tin isnt dented or rusty.

  • @ukguy Seems like there was an intense efforts to successfully conserve food like this for 60 something years without become stale. Also, I heard that in space, people eat freeze dried foods.

  • @ukguy haha I did the same thing, ww2 rations n Korean war rations, I guess us Canadians and british dont like wasting eh!

  • most canned goods will stay edible for nearly 25 years if the can stays sealed.

  • @vinegaroon1 yeah that is amazing. Although right now I would REFUSE to eat anything that was produced in the 1980s, regardless of the condition.

  • @NHRHS2010 Thanks for the reply and I like the vid. I would normally pass up anything dated as well, however if there is no other option, and armed, roving, hungry gangs are attacking people in the streets (people who stored nothing and need to leave their homes/comfort zones) who are looking for food, I might consider opening a can of beans dated 1997 or something. I would figure it was better than nada.

  • @vinegaroon1 You are welcome. Good to see that you like my video. As of 2010s, I sometimes wonder what food dated 1990s or 1980s would taste like. I just hope that I won't puke.

  • @NHRHS2010 why the 80s ? is there something i do not know

  • @tarboy69 It's just an example I used while replying to another comment.

  • Sugar can last for a 10000 years,in normal dry condition, bacteria cant eat it like that.

  • @finajet Good to know that. Putting food in the freezer also delays the food's "expiration date"

  • @finajet yeah also honey if it is real not processed lasts almost forever, it may get crystals of sugar appearing in it but if warmed they will dissapear again.

  • must be a misprint

  • @orangedac It could, but expiration dates are usually not a guaranteed expiration date.

  • Speaking of that, the can of tuna is likely to be shipped from South Korea to Han Ah Reum (a branch of Korean shopping centers in the United States; I know there is one in Flushing, Queens, NY, but that one is a bit too far.)

  • Cool.
