heres just one reason i love NMH.. my roommate is an absolute antithesis of myself, and this song applies to each of us in a completely different way, but for each of us, its a good mother fucking song.
He's not dead and he's not preforming anymore. Sadly, there will never be another NMH album. The reason is because he has some immune system problem and gets sicks like every month, thus hindering his ability to play and passion to play.
@sebytheman Not really, I've read the 33 1/3 book about the making of ITAOTS. Keep in mind that it was a solid few years between the recording of the album and Jeff not playing shows anymore. It's largely attributed to him having a nervous breakdown, something that he said he'd experienced before - you can hear him talk about it in chatter sections on one of the best known live recordings (it might be this one, before or after he plays 'Naomi').
Haha... the baby? Whatever. I love Jeff Mangum. It's upsetting to know I will never get the opportunity to see him live, and these people had know idea how luck they were...
don't be too jealous... because i didn't. oh how i wish i had, but this is a segment from a video someone took of this entire performance. it was on the CD, Live at Jittery Joe's. i put these up because they were some of my favorite versions.
"I don't wish to taste of your insides or call out your name through my phone." That's the line that knocks me
off my chair (though there are plenty of other good ones). Has anybody spoken that way in a song before? The combination of crudity and puritanism, saint/sinner my god Jeff come back to us and give us more songs. But I guess he's found other things to do. "There are somme lives you live and some you leave behind."
i have to say...this is probably my favorite neutral milk hotel song. i don't know why. it's not even as epic as some of jeff's other songs, but it's delivery is just so beautiful. well, all of JM's songs are beautiful, really.

Would I be suprised that Jeff Mangum has been reincarnating into different forms over history? Not one bit XD

@FlaminFingaz "now she's a little boy in spain, playing pianos filled with flames" i think he's into reincarnation.

Oh my. Just when I though I couldn't love this song more. Perhaps I like this version a bit more than the one on Avery.
A bit more sped up. But showcases Jeff's lovely voice. Excellent.

Haha if he made strudel's his name would not be Hitler, he had it changed. His real last name is Schicklegruber. True story, look it up.
maxiemumu2 2 years ago
Very true, though he'd probably be in the same league as more Picasso or Van Gogh, as we was a pretty talented painter.

No, I'm 100% sure.
Zygiro 3 years ago
well, it's not 100% correct, but that is near enough. Just don't be expecting any NMH albums anytime soon.
SgtSanchez 3 years ago
No honestly, you're dead wrong. He just recorded Sign the Dotted Line.. A cover of a Chris Knox song of who it is a tribute for. so. "sauced"

Dude was right, that is not the reason. Aeroplane just took too much out of him artistically, he is creatively burned out.
sebytheman 3 years ago
And where's your source? I read a letter he wrote himself. BUT, he did appear at an E6 concert so there's hope!
Zygiro 3 years ago
It was the publicity that took him out, the fact that it's such a good album would only make him more creatively sound.

if i was to make a time machine and go back in time only once, i would go back to see this show.
then brag about it for the rest of my life.
BooniesBomber1 3 years ago 2
Wait, what, wouldn't you save Anne Frank?
testytestytest 3 years ago 13
Well, if this time machine option was an option to everyone, Jeff would have already saved Anne Frank.

Hah. Kinda brings him down to Earth in my mind.

Right, Pitchfork hunted him down. But, he's doing his own thing now.
