havoc used this on the intro to mobb deep - up north trip but the instruments in the backround sound a little different, another version of this song floating around?
Hearing this seductive melody by Cheo Feliciano makes me wanna hear him & Inez Fajardo couple up for NO GOOD LOVE LASTS by Wm Chas Cooke! Yeeeah, so I can listen to it along with two other cuts of his that I've been listening to for over forty yrs! BANG BANG! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand ANACAONA! Get it, Cheo!
Back on the East Side of Manhattan on Ave D. This song was always on someones radio, reminds me of when I met my wife at the Chez Jose up on 77th St.. they always played this and closed with Frank Sinatra The Summer Wind.. those were the day. Rest In Peace Anna this is for you
Growing up in the Bronx in the 50's and 60's, I remember hearing this song on the radio so many times. The velvet voice of Jimmy Sabater on lead vocal. Many years later, I had the privilege of meeting him and performing with him several times, even doing backup vocals on this song. Jimmy Sabater - truly one of the best.
this song is such a classic. it was the song in new york city radio airways during this era of the late 60's...if you want proof, look at the movie "A Bronx tale" and this song is playing in the background during the scene when the main mafia guy talks to little kid in the alley while the club door in open with music playing.
Thank you soooooo much for this. I think I must be the 9000 of the views, I have played it so many times. Love it. Agree with post below. Thank you for hipping me to Joe Cuba, but especially this oldie.
I detect a slight difference in this version and the one I had on vinyl back in the sixties. I don't know if it's older or newer, but I still love it. Thanks for posting it.
thier are love songs and then their are deep New York Rican love songs. if you only had am radio it was a spanish station radio WADO or WWRL and if it was an FM staion WBLS o rWKTU.I lived in the Bronx but I was a Barrio Brat 116th st.this song brought me back to those great house party's(the grind era). thanks for sharing.gracias!!
@celso521 I hear you about this type of oldie being played at those great hooky sets. I wish i could go back to one special night,in the arms of my first boyfriend,Michael Delgado. I remember when we finished dancing to this song,i felt disoriented and i couldnt see ! Oh man...,i want that back...regardless of what my husband says. ;) lol
Great song and thx for posting. I have seen Jimmy Sabater sing this song in person with Joe Cuba many times. It was always one of my favorites and I miss their music.
Thank you for exposing me to Joe Cuba! Maybe that is unbelievable that I have not heard of him... but I have always loved this song, and have not heard it for many years. Can always count on you for the best oldies.
The Vocalist is Jimmy Sabater who was the English voice for the Joe Cuba Band. My mom's cousin. RIP.
