  • nice eyelashes

    (wait never mind)

  • do you have a twitter

  • it is easy to you you are natural beautiful ...

  • I didn't know about the tissue lol thankx

  • how do you focus a camera so for when you record

  • you are very KInd ! great tips

  • yaa

that what i use in taking photos but what can you do if you were in the street

  • What style of camera do you use?

I have a Canon Rebel XT

  • well i mean if you change the shutter speed the photo is brighter and more vibrant. And I love film photography it's the only thing i like... I hate digital cameras if you wanna know the truth.

  • i want to do photography as it intrests me but i can only do it in two years :(

  • iam wayyy sorry but ur pritty without the big lashes they r not atractive looking

  • they are for makeup. i doubt she would wear them out. unless for halloween

  • Nice video but I think the most important thing people can grab from this is the one single thing that you were holding, the light source, regardless of cameras and photoshop and all that FAQ - the first and most important thing to anyones and obviousley this girls photos is the direction and intensity of the light. Being able to control it leads to creativity. Disregard all that other stuff as it is pointless snobby garble. Nice job Risa. Love to see some of your work.

  • do not put a piece of tissue close over to a flash (pop up or off camera) - it can catch fire from the heat coming off the flash. you would really need something like a milk carton to work alot better or look for something such as a puffer diffuser online - or just buy a cheap off camera flash with these parts already installed. 150euro min.

  • uhm..wahtz with ur eyelashez??

  • What kind've camera do you record with?! Just wondering :D

  • what about taking picture outside

the hair is also a big problem

  • thid vidoe is great i learnt some great tricks thankyou.x

  • can you make a tuturial on how to edit your phoos on photoshop? even though i have Cs2, they're similar :)

  • love. :) i use a film rebel. <3

  • Thank you so much for this video!

  • my bf's digi cam definately doesnt work as well as mine's but what im jealous about is his cam has a soft flash option.. i wish my canon had that! interesting to know that holdin a tissue in front of the flash will have the same effect! i will be parading around the clubs now w camera n tissue in hand.. for about 3 minutes before its soaked w alcohol! haha :)

  • lol @ this comment! You may be able to turn your flash down though...do you know all of the features your camera has? Im only asking because most people dont use their camera's to their full advantage because they're unaware of the features.

  • Thank you. You´ve helped me a lot

  • Excellent.

  • You have beautiful eyes...love the lashes too!

  • You are pretty! <3

  • I totally agree with you! I'm doing a photography course atm and i was saying about photoshop and people were like you're not a true photographer if you edit your photos blah blah blah,

But it doesn't exactly ruin the creativity behind the photo or anything else, it just enhances it and makes it better, for instance make-up photos, if there's blemishes they have to be edited otherwise all the magazine ads would have people with horrible uneven skin.

  • thanks for the tissue tip i am definitely going to try out :)

  • I just saw some of your photos on deviantART and Flickr and I must say - you're being way too modest about your skills! The pictures are beautiful.

I'd definitely love to see more videos from you about photography.

  • What's the link to the deviantart page??

  • Thank you so much for this! very much appreaciated.. =)

  • there is absolutely nothing wrong with photoshop. people freak out whenever i tell people i'm a photo retoucher and tell me i should be ashamed of myself and blah blah blah, but here's the thing: I don't change anything about the way a person looks. I even out skin, balance color and light, and thats it. I can tell you don't mess with your pictures too much either, so if you ever have people harass you, thats BULLSHIT. your pictures are wonderful.

    ok, just saying lol ^_^

  • OMG, same thing with me! (same line of work) It's not like we totally re-do photos extreme style like the recent ralph lauren ad.. It's mostly touch ups to make it more attractive on print.

  • if you're using a film camera. you just have to adjust it for more contrast. that's what i do.

but that's more for pro film camera.

  • Thanks, Risa :) <33

  • intresting video, thanks x

  • Yup, you definitely have the color range part right. It's called the "color gamut". We see TONS of colors (I forget how many), but something like a camera or computer senses less colors (i.e. has a smaller gamut), and print has an even smaller gamut.

Thanks for the tips! I wouldn't have thought to use just a lightbulb. :)

I totally agree- experimentation is the best way to learn what works best for you.

  • What lipstick or gloss are you wearing ?

  • She has a tutorial of the look up.

All the things she used are shown on it.

  • Thank you for this!!! I have always loved your pictures and wondered what methods you used, now I feel a little smarter HAHA.

I agree about the PS thing. It's one thing to erase a pimple or smudge you might have missed. But some people take it WAY too far, and yes, the smudge or blur tool turns some people's faces into plastic dolls. Which is NOT attractive or flattering in any way.

  • This is so awesome! I took a class in high school were we learned about photoshop. I was so amazed at the things you can do with it. This was 4 years ago during my sophomore year. I forgot how to do alot of stuff but I remember using the burn and dodge tools and the clone stamp[a lot]

  • you are fasinating. you get prettier everyday. much respect.

  • COOL!!!

  • i like your voice

  • I really just use it to store photos and I go back and forth with being "involved" in that site - though its a great source for stock photos, brushes etc and I LOVE looking through other people's stuff. The only downside is that there's a lot of artists who have uploaded their original stuff that are stolen and used by the masses (the open sheet music, with a read filter creating a red heart on the page - for example) and they never receive proper credit or compensation. But it is a cool site!

  • Thank you so, so much for the tip!!!

  • I'm the same way Risa....I hardly see sunlight..cause i can't sleep well...when i finally do pass out...its daylight...I hate it...lol...Once u start that too...then its hard to get back to normal....

  • Thank ya honey!

  • This was so helpful! Thanks so much! i am going to try this!

  • you are lookin fine risa! was worried about u (didn't see any recent tweets for some reason)

  • Very, very useful info. Thank you sooo much!

  • You put this vid up sooner than I expected! Thank you for being so helpful and for responding so quickly to my message the other night. Maybe I will take a photography class. I just remembered my cousin was in a photography club in highschool! Thanks again .

  • Actually the film quality of some photos is superior to digital photographs. A really good film (very expensive none the less that's why digital is soooo poopular) will be very vibrant and are pick up many more slight variations in colour gradient. Crappy digital cameras are a bit of a joke if you're talking about quality of a photo. But digital is MUCH easier to use, more inexpensive and much more fun really XD.

  • Point taken, but you're taking about pretty expensive film than only pros generally use. I was moreso referring to what most of us use (if shooting film) which is just basic 35mm 400 speed film. I didn't wanna get too detailed or into it in this video. I was thinking more consumer friendly ;)

  • arghhhh I meant to say 400 or so speed (depends on lighting and such which Im sure you know)

  • Awesome, love this vid. Thanks for sharing all that information with us!

I want to take a photography class but I am scared I will be the only one who doesn't have amazing shots, or the only one who doesn't know wtf she's doing lol.

Are you going to do any more photography related videos? Maybe for your other channel? I think a lot of us, including myself, would love to hear what you have to say. :)

  • you shoudl take the class, there is alot of info that you can learn on the internet too in relation to compositions, thirds, aperture, shutterspeeds etc. i'm sure you'd enjoy it! then you won't feel so worried in classes :)

  • Dont be scared! It's okay to NOT know something. In fact IMO it's always better to admit you don't something than give an incorrect answer. And photography is an art. As long as you're happy with your shots and feel yourself growing, who cares what anyone else says. And aside from that, in the various art classes Ive taken (no matter the medium), I find the most people are the furthest thing from judgemental.

I can do more photography video if you'd like. I guess I'd just need to know what you

  • questions you want answered, or what you want help with. But again, remember, I'm an amatuer and this is a just a hobby. I can try to help you but I'm still learning myself :)

  • Thanks a lot for this very helpful video!

  • Everytime I see a new Risa tutorial up I hurry to watch it b/c to me, your tutorials are the quality, the top notch of youtube.

I always KNOW your looks will be perfectly executed and artistic and inspirational and QUALITY :-)

Thank you so much for taking your time an sharing your skills witch us.

    Hugs from Germany

  • you are soooo pretty :)

  • Extremely helpful as always, Thank you Risa :)

  • This is GREAT information. I struggle a bit taking my pics for my own tutorials so this will help me so much!

  • wow did you read my mind? i was so close to commenting your blog about this yesterday. ahahhaah ;) you and natasha take the BEST makeup pictures on youtube from what i've seen.

i need to get a white light. yellow is ew. wow were the same i have a rebel too and it interests me too. i took photo class last yr! it really helps.i want to get a backdrop. its so hard for me to edit pictures because i have cystic acne, HORRID skin. idk how to shoot in RAW though. time fo google! thanks for this! :)

  • Go to Menu - the first little tab and under quality select "Raw". jpgs naturally become compressed. RAW files are HUGE but you lose absolutely no information and even when editing them, it converts over to a jpg or tiff or whatever when you're ready to save, but the raw file stays exactly the way you shot the image. Yea skin is a pain in the ass to edit, The most difficult IMO, but learn to look at photos exactly as dark vs light. It might help to convert the image to black and white just for

  • learning purposes because seeing things in gray scale can better train your eyes. Texture on the skin is really just tiny shadows, or light spots. Once you can learn to almost remove the color information when your eyes are processing what you're looking at, then you can focus better on what should be lightened or darkened in regards to skin texture/acne. I work on a pixel by pixel basis most of the time which is why its better to shoot at the highest possible resolution.

  • I will have to remember this- I don't have much memory on my laptop but i want to get an external hard drive someday soon!

I'll try the black and white thing next time! thanks so much for the help! i didn't expect that! :)

    x

  • I do the same thing but in a dark room because it takes a lot of shadow and also brings out a lot of markings on face if you know what I mean!!

  • YES Thank you!!! How could I forget about my favorite site?!? Youc an even upload and store .psd files there and to my knowledge (unless they've changed it) there aren't really any limitations to how many files you can upload, nor size limitations. You just have to deal with ads, but they're not annoying pop ups. I'm sonrisa over there (if anyone wants to add me - I'd love to see your work/art!!) - though it's been quite some time since I've uploaded anything.

  • i absolutely looove that make-up!!!!

  • Thanks hun! The tutorial for it is uploading right now. :)

  • im going to be a photographer!!! :D im so excited i love photography i definitely want to get to a point where i do shoots of makeup :P that would be so awesome :)

  • I still shoot in film! This was a really interesting vid, thanks Risa :)

  • YAY FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!! I rarely break out my old 35mm...my rebel gets a lot more love, I'm sad to say.

  • Photography is awesome. :D

    Do you have a Flickr?

  • I do...though I haven't uploaded in quite some time. I dont even remember my username lol, lemme look it up.

  • ^_^ yay.

  • Its RisaRM :)

  • :O You should so start using Flickr again. Your pictures are amaaaaazing.

I love the "Waiting" one and the monkey feet one is so damn cute :P

  • What does puttin tissue infront of the flash do?

  • It diffuses the light making it softer.

  • It helps light up the area of the photo, without washing TOO much color out, or making it look to white.

  • it softens the harshness of the flash.

  • Very useful. Thanks for the video. x

  • muchisimas gracias :D

  • Thank you. I've always wanted to ask gurus how they take and edit their pics, now i don't have to : )

  • i dont edit all my photos, so not all photos in existence is edited. because to be honest, i like some better without photoshop help.

unless you're talking about the camera editing them through the little features it has?\

    however!

these little tricks will certainly help me when taking pictures for future contests, or just taking pictures in general.

    thank you!

  • "unless you're talking about the camera editing them through the little features it has?" - Bingo! ;)

  • i thought so!

    (:

thank you, and your make up is simply gorgeous. i love those lashes!

  • wow... it's that easy, lolz. i have had problems with that. hahahaha xD now i don't feel that creative:( haha, ^^ thank u !

  • Thanks for making this video! And I love the candles burning in the background, it all looks so relaxing :)

  • thank you Risa:)

I hope that this make-up you have on is as your next tutorial! :)

  • If people do not have photoshop...the free alternative is photobucket. it's obviously not as advance as photoshop....but it's free.

just go to edit images and play with the effects like "beautify"

you can even add watermarks ontop of your pictures

  • GIMP is almost exactly like photoshop.

its easier though and its freee to download online. check it out if your looking for an alternative. :)

  • oh really? I use photobucket to host but didn't know they offered editing as well. cool!

  • You have a great personality Risa. I feel like everytime you make a video, you are talking to us, like a conversation. You are not talking at us and I do NOT get this sense you think you are better than everyone else.

  • I have learned a lot from you make up wise

  • Great tips! Thanks!

  • Long blue eyelashes, omg I want those! Those are freaking gorgeous!

  • i do photography and i am very thankful of you making this video! i hope to go into fashion photography and never even knew that setting existed! lol and btw dont even listen to all the stupid arguers. obviously they have nothing better to do then pick on the talented.

  • wow..old trick I did not know that with the tissue...thanks for the awesome video!

  • lol @ the first comment argument.

  • i used jasc paint pro shop 8. i edit my photos too if there aene or whatever. if i don't like it, i just delete the picture...

  • thank u so much for sharing this hun

  • cool

  • Oh man, I tried to use the Macro for the first time not too long ago and I was horrified. I could see all of my sun damage that I can't see naturally. I was so depressed after I used that stinkin' macro. It is good to give you the motivation to stay the heck out of the sun and use SPF.

  • Wow, you shouldn't waste so much negative energy on such petty things. You must be pissed off all day long. Life's too short. Ever thought about anger management? Thanks for the laugh though!

  • It's not that serious! SunxsurfxSand could make whatever comment she likes! You don't like it don't read!

  • Comment removed

  • WTF are you sitting here saying that for? STFU
