Obviously Mariah sings better than Shania, she's got a seven-octaved vocal range, eighteen #1 hit singles (second only to The Beatles) and she's capable of doing the whistle register, amazing beltings and her music - especially the 90's stuff - is extraordinary and exquisite. There's so much about here that can't be covered by words. I do like Shania, but Mariah is untouchable. At all.

Shania sang the song because the lyrics had a special meaning to her, not because she intended to outsing Mariah. While the song was written as a letter to Santa from a horny teenager dreaming of a boyfriend for Shania it was about missing her family during Christmas time.
