love this! i have two Eskie's a girl and a boy.. the girl is very vocal when we come home and the boy is super protective while the girl is as friendly as can be! they are he best dogs to have ever! i love them soo much!.. but training them sadly is not going to happen! LOL all they know is "get in the chair" and "go away" lol always beggin for food!
I have an eskie as well, He used to get confused when doing tricks but then i started doing hand signals for him while saying which trick to do. the visual helps a lot. and when we are somewhere we should be quiet the signals help SOOO much.
there are no certain signals for each trick, just come up with them on your own. example for sit we make a beak with our hand. you can teach them this at any age. they are so smart they just adapt
i have an eskimo husky mix...the husky was a white siberian and he's an amazing dog. i couldn't ask for a more well behaved guy and he has the best personality. loves people and dogs and only protective if i act scared. the best dogs
Very cute. good job training at that young age. but it's no wonder he gets confused. your speech to him is completely inconsistent, "sit, polo sit, sit" gotta stick to one thing. either sit or polo sit. and "sit again" is not going to make sense to him. either down or lie down, not both. work on that and your dog will be much happier because he will understand what you want.
@emzii92 Mine's awful with her barking. It gets worse as they get older too, for some. I hate loud sudden noises, and that's all we get from her lately (she's 7 yo). Other than the God awful noise she's a fantastic dog, incredibly smart, loyal, sweet.
You shouldn't say "no" when scolding a dog, because it's such a common word in english. Like if you're talking with someone and you're like "Oh yeah, I know!" the dog will be sitting there going "what the hell did I do!?"
@Poncho151500 no it depends how firm your voice is when you say "no". i say "no" & "know" all the time when i'm not refering to him. and he is still in the happiest mood. but he knows when i'm talking to him when i call his name/look at it him/ and say "no" in a very firm voice. (not screaming or yelling just keeping a firm voice) ot all just depends how the tune of your voice is. trust me i know, i've had him for 11 yrs and still acts the same :) its all in the voice.
im thinking about getting an eskie too. how are they with strangers? i want to eventually walk then without a leash so i would want him to stay close to me and also not get too rowdy when someone comes up to pet him or interact with him
@stockinettestitch not all , mine much would rather have attention then anything else (well food always is his first choice) & i'm not just saying it, i've had him for 11 years. but then no 2 dogs are the same. :)
@xXSquealingPigsXx Are you talking about Sammies? Yeah, I had a sad/bad experience with one. He was satan incarnate. (Only half kidding...lol) You're very right about no 2 dogs the same. Just good to hedge one's bets. Say hi to your hairy beast from me. :-)
@flowingx if your get him, make sure (as a puppy) you walk the puppy to park to meet all sorts of people, and they will develope a love for other people.
Some of them could be more vocal than others. I've heard some owners who have yappy eskies and others who doesnt. Polo doesn't really bark except when someone comes home.. he goes off for a little while cuz he's so excited.
Oh yes they are very smart dogs. I litter box trained my dog, it took a couple days. Polo is an exception to the typical american eskimo personality, or so I've heard from many vets and people, as he's so friendly and has no signs of aggression or protectiveness. But I have heard that eskimos are generally protective, and some do not like other dogs.. but I think if you socialize them when they are young, they should get along with other dogs no problem.
i got him for 800 canadian. Its a good price from local breeders. You can probably get one for cheaper depending on where you currently reside. Its more rare in Vancouver.
@iyg8288 I think my dog is part american eskimo...we only know that she is part cattle dog,she looked almost exactly like this when she was a puppy except she has orange and brown "freckles" on her face and body.she squeals alot and whines instead of barking,do you think she is part american eskimo?
i am jealous of anyone that has an american eskimo dog. they're my favorite dogs ever but my parents won't let me get one because they say we already have enough animals in our house. :|
MarcoPolo is very funny at 1:02. He's so cute! I used to have 1 named Daisy : ) She was very sweet, but she had a funny trick to our other German Shepherd, Ossie..."Daisy, get Ossie!" So funny! Eskies are sweet little cute fluffballs!
Oh, this is far too precious! This little guy reminded me of my AE, Madyson. (RIP). He would go through the whole trick routine before he did the proper command. What they wont do to get a treat....or win your heart!
He's adorable and seems to be very good-natured. He also looks a lot like my old American Eskimo (who died in July at age 15) looked when she was a puppy back in 1993.
I've got two other American Eskimos at home and neither looks like Polo or Powder, so it was quite a treat to see this cute video 'cause your good dog reminds me of my good, old dog.

flowingx 1 year ago
@flowingx I have an Eskie. They're more interested in protecting you (their property) than interacting with others as a general rule.
You might want to look into a Samoyed. They LOVE people, kids included. Wonderful dog, though a little more willful than an Eskie.
Good luck.
