coe make a funnel with the water so it pushes all the chickens to the middle of the farm. then there will be 0 eggs on the ledge. you can also only open the 4 blocks in the center which mean a lot less sings needed and it will still push any legs outside of those 4 blocks into the 4 block hole.

cheaper way to hold up the water than the signs would be gates, and they don't exploit a bug in the game. Open gates act as a block of air.

I found that having a duck pond worked well for egg collecting but it turned into a LAG generator. I also noticed that chickens/ducks fit in-between fences and water. So you can set up a 3 sided wall with water flowing in to fences on the opposite side. These forces all the chickens to stand still against the fence and not jump up and down (no LAG issue). You can then set up a train system to run up and down the fence so when you sit in it you can collect all the eggs. I can film mine if youWish

Use glass instead of fences for the wall of the chicken coop. Chicken love pushing each other around and this may push them slightly into the wall, resulting in suffocation if the block is solid. Glass blocks however don't have the disadvantage of fences in leaving eggs behind on edges.

It's probably because the original parents are still following their offspring even though they've grown up. So the... uh, grandparents follow the parent who follow the chicks, and the chicks wandered to the the water. So everyone followed.

The chickens are really ducks. That's why they're attracted to water like that. And that's why I use the Painterly duck texture for them. :) (And so you've created a duck pond. Makes perfect sense.)

chickens can't fall through one layer of water, and if you put the pond one layer lower than the current one they cant get on the edges + they also breed in water so you could make a infinite spring 2x2 and have a huge chicken farm in it.

@MoneyAndPeople I used gates in my own coop (BTW, 5x5 for easy water collection!), because they're a bit cheaper than signs and I'm terminally low on wood. The problem with them is that they can clicked closed when throwing eggs, feeding chickens, or thinning the flock.
