This record is unique and is today the featured LP on BBC6 Music's "Freak Zone". Fascinating, and the fact he never recorded again since adds to the intrigue.
TT, my all time favorite!! En met het verstrijken van de jaren... wordt het gemis aan nieuw werk van TT alleen maar groter....
Awesome record, last great decade in music, the 90's. coincidence he stopped recording right when napster came out probably. but also coincindently thats when most of the cool music dried up too.
@nicopaugam Only Mr. Hollis himself knows, I think. Consensus seems to be that he has retired from the music industry and is a full time family man. Sad to say.
@SilverBuddha Retired or not, Mark Hollis made one of the essential contemporary music albums. When an all-inclusive 20th Century History of Music is finally written, Mark Hollis would have to be there. The towering quality of this album´s achievement has won it a snug place alongside Phillp Glass´Glassworks, Gorecki´s 3rd Symphony or Keith Jarrett´s Koln Concert.
Everything has already been said. Like many, Mark and Talk Talk have been part of my musical life from the beginning. The music Mark produced is like a best friend... always there when you need it most.
this album still haunts me...years after its release.. there is nothing else out there that can touch its raw, improvised beauty ... this album is a force of nature :-)
I am a composer, trained (BFA, MFA) and Mark Hollis is one of my favorite musicians/composers I've heard. I have analyzed this album through and through and would love - I mean really love, to see the scores for his work. The time signatures, the orchestration, all of it - how did he write this down and make it happen? How did the later Talk Talk albums do it? There have to be scores or notes or something out there. I would deeply appreciate any information on this! Thank you.
became one of my five or six *utterly* favourite albums seconds after the first song - 'the colour of spring' - started... and that was even before his voice kicked in!
In the late 90s I was living in Deptford south London. This music is part of the soundtrack of that time for me. So evocative then and now. And Talk Talk's 1988 Spirit of Eden was the spirit of ecstasy. It accompanied so much bliss.

@lorienforest Found this Mark Hollis quote from an interview he did in 1998: "It is the lamb of God, made of bread. On Sicily at easter there is a festival for which they make these breads. I like the way something appears to come out of his head, it makes me think of a fountain of ideas. Also the manner how the eyes are positioned fascinates me. When I saw the picture for the first time I had to laugh, but there's something very tragic about it at the same time."
One of my all time favourite albums , been playing it regularly since it's release. Any news out there on what he's up to and the likely hood of a follow up?
was this his first solo album? iread a review of it some years ago in a german mag and they said it was really good. forgot the name of it. is this it? what make is the bike?
what is this shit! Awful music with nothing going on, Talk talk were overrated pile of dung, and this shoegazing, self loathing tripe is even worse!

The picture shows a Sicilian traditional Easter bread or cake, it's the Easter Lamb.
His tender, gentle and a little strange expression is tragically moving and inspiringly creative for your imagination.

Mark Hollis is unquestionably one of the finest composer/performers to come out of the UK - ever. Totally overlooked and under-rated except by a few.
Unforgettable for some. An extraordinary artist in every meaning of the word. RolloKohime
