im sorry, but in what world is this a "legal" ruck by the all blacks.... how many men went off their feet? alright i get that ireland had hands in the ruck, but when you are faced with bodies lying everywhere you cannot counter ruck... it is a typical AB tactic where they pile a few men OVER the ruck and out the otherside making it impossible to counter ruck properly... its also known as "going off your feet!"
This isn't fierce rucking.............I grew up in New Zealand in the 70s and 80s........and opposition players who lay over the ball regularly got up with half their jersey missing and lovely red scrape marks all down their backs.
@Aussiephil99 ha ha, that was the good ol days alright. Bring back the real rucking, let hte players administer justice to those infringing by trying to kill the ball
@Aussiephil99 I grew up in the 70's & 80's as well going to the footy with the old man from age 2. The game was definitely a lot more physical back then and the rucking sorted the men from the boys!!
How much faster would the game be if rucking was allowed back in the game? Negative & obstructive players who try to kill or slow down the ball would get a little tap tap on the back.
the tackler was penalized for holding onto the ball in the ruck.. when you make a tackle you have to release the ball carrier when you go to ground and you cant handle the ball on the ground.. then the all black lost possession by kicking it so the referee stopped the advantage and went back to the penalty :D.
@Lycanthrope31 Basically the Irish player needed to leave the ball alone because a ruck had already formed. If the All Black player was tackled, but no ruck was formed, he would be entitled to try and snatch the ball. This sort of professional foul happens a lot in today's game. He was intentionally stopping the ball coming out to give his defence enough time to organise themselves. The All Blacks like to speeden the game up and run the defence ragged.
i know that but when u got more than 5 guys in a ruck it gets a little dirty. if not hands, i know ur supposed to mainly use the feet, but what about ur knees, or elbows or what? i'd really like to see a video that dissects a ruck showing or telling what all goes on at the bottom of a ruck
the ruck comes right after he's tackled. the big pile-up is a ruck. the thing that the wusses are objecting to is when you see the guys in back kicking into the ruck. you can't play the ball if you're lying on the ground, but you can kick it around, or pry it free with the boots.

They used to pile 10 men into rucks to secure possession, now they have a Richie McCaw to do it for them

it's legal, but it's rare and really aggressive.
