I think the song is a "traditional" Czech song, so I'm not sure you'll find a definitive "original" author.
I think bohonk is supposed to be bohunk, which is an ethnic slur for Bohemians. Someone misspelled it somewhere along the way, or that was done intentionally by someone because of the meaning of the word.
i am 67 and used to listen to this song when i was about 8 and i can not find the group or whoever sang it anywhere--does anybody know--i am full czech--so was our town about 80%--we called ourselves bohonks and we had a legion hall that was called the bohonk stomp -sure was fun-what is the difference between bohonk and czech--my parents have since passed and i still dont know
