  • so true...all we achieve by playing modern games is damn trophies, for something actually useful they invented DLCs....so true

  • Trophies and Achievements are not that bad, but they would AWESOME if they came along with unlockables! It would be like "We will give you a sticker that shows how awesome you are AND give you a little something for your efforts!"

  • Imagine playing a new Doom and coming upon the room with the BFG. There is a code lock on the door to get it to open, and in order to get the door to open you have to punch in your credit card number. A fee will automatically be deducted from your account and then the door will open.

If this starts happening I can see piracy and cracking getting a lot more popular again.

  • Truer words have never been spoken, Brad.

  • Brad is 100 fucking percent right on this. The sad thing is, everybody is always like

"Well it's only ten buck who cares". The thing is, it used to be FREE. Games didn't use to do this bullshit. Before, hard mode and extra characters were part of the game, not "DLC".

  • games should be longer they are so short now

  • Brad for President :D

  • I thought I was the only one who thought that way, thanks Brad.

I'd prefer content already in one game, and wait out for an entirely new game, than compared to paying out the nose for extra bits and pieces of a game that should've been included as an entire set.

  • Were heading into another gaming crash people i can feel it in my vains

  • Someone should make a petition then

  • paying for extra content for a game is retarded. you went out and bought their game in the first place, all the content should come with it. if it's a PC game's expansion pack, that's understandable, but for a console, no. when we get console games, ALL the content should be available through gameplay alone, either from the start or by being unlocked.

  • Seeing as 9For example) Halo 3 is 6.3GB on a 7GB Disk....If you were to add al the DLC to it that'll easily top over 8.5GB. What they should do is 9seeing as you bought the game) make the DLC free of charge!

  • I like downloadable content...lets say you got this game right...you beat the hell out of it and you love it but theres just nothin left to do..you worked yer ass off on it! You feel like theres more that could be done...no dlc..your game ends there. It dwindles away int obscurity! Dlc is annoying if overdone but it can add tremendous replay value and keep a game fresh and interesting long after youve forgotten about beating other games!

  • Or you could just play the game again in an unlocked mode or harder difficulty. Like it should be.

  • @goddimmus True dat. tl;dr, DLC can be great if the company knows when to give it and how to price it. Modern Warfare 2 was done WRONG. Too expensive, and too early.

  • halo 3 is the worst with DLC. They actually require you to buy the maps to play online modes.

  • Same with Cod 4, Cod 5, gears of war..Don't criticise just 1 game

  • Don't really play those online so I wouldn't know. But thank you for the correction

  • Oh okay, Sorry

  • Holy crap, and intelligent internet agreement?!

Maybe now we can put a man on mars.

  • This is an example of bad dlc...im sorry they do this but i still like dlc if done in a creative way. Borderlands for example!

  • yah for the wii it usually just sells games not add on content

  • Amen brad, amen.

  • nintendo is actually doing the right thing, like always.....

  • Seriously; why should I have to SPEND money to play as Protoman in MegaMan 9 who plays almost the EXACT same with like three differences? Why not just make his harder mode AVAILABLE after you beat the game or get enough points? This DLC era sucks... Money-vaccuuming bastards DX

  • its all aboutthe money nowdays, they tempt you with amazing thing to use in a game but charge way to much

  • Make me think to Super Smash Bros. Melee they're some unlockables in it :)....

  • I miss unlockables. :(

One question though: is this the normal DMC3 or the special edition one? Because I don't remember Vergil being playable except in the second-to-last battle. :/

  • its the special edition version

  • Yeah, I found that out some time ago, but thanks, anyway! ;)

  • ah kk :)

  • So true. Everything is DLC now for a quick buck. PC gaming is once a haven again, mods. :D

  • Yeah you use to unlock this and stuff and not pay! WTF is wrong with today now it sucks!!! Why not should the DLC be free!!!

  • As long as people pay for DLC, this is how it's gonna be.

You voted by not buying it. Now you just have to convince 20 million other gamers to join you. Have fun with that.

Some games still have unlockables. Ace Combat 6 did, DMC4 did, Mass Effect did (those were cool as hell, by the way. Sniper with shotgun proficiency FTW).

  • and all us who have the fallout 3 for the ps3

(or such games) cant play the pit or operation thingy (anchorage?) and i really want that level cap increase among other things T_T

  • its just been announced that they are bringing the dlc's starting late june

followed by two new ones later in the year

  • i think we should be able to buy the dlc, but if we dont and complete the game we get it for free.

    thats ok for everyone

  • Brad makes it sound so serious.

AND IT IS, IF YOU THINK ITS NOT DIAL 11111-GO HOME-000

Brad, start a pact and protest, only way to fx it.

  • and if that dont work buy a shotgun... nah im joking but yeah protesting is only way VIVA LA VIDEO GAMES!

  • So true. It's a sad state of affairs. Also what happened to split screen and cutscene replay. They seem to be getting far and few between. :( I miss unlockables. Points are starting to irritate me. I wish there was an option to turn them off so I wouldn't surrender to the obsessive achievement/trophy unlocking. Damn you achievements/trophies, damn you to hell!

  • very true =(

  • yep

  • Tsst, I also remember a time when games where a fuckload cheaper.

So, I don't buy DLC's except for Fallout 3, and that's becuse I'm in love with that game.

And I only buy sandbox games which I know I'll be able to play for a very long time.

So I think you guys should just stop complaining, noone's forcing you to buy this stuff, and alot of the DLC's aren't in production until after the game is released, so are the people who made this game just gonna work extra for no money? Course not.

  • Games.... games never change.

  • or brad....brad never changes :)

  • At least (for the most part) Hideo Kojima didn't fail us. MGS4 gives some tid-bits of fun after beating a playthrough. DLC = another way major corporations can reem are assh**es...

  • AM?

  • Very true Brad, game devs are cheating their audience of rewards by making them pay for unlockables which should've been done already by the release of game. If they don't have their additional content ready, then don't release it as it's already an incomplete game.

Even though GDC SF was over this past Friday, I would definitely like to see this in the other major game dev conferences in a roundtable discussion concerning the usage of DLC. For now, the word needs to be spread on this.

  • soo true, soo true...

  • I hope a bear rolls over you!!!

  • haw haw ur so funneh

  • resident evil 5 has a similar system like in the old games

  • relly? YESSSS!!! i didnt want to hav 2 pay for add-ons for it :D

  • SO TRUE ! POINTS ... POINTS ! NO YOU NEED TO BEAT THE GAME ON ONE MODE AT A TIME TO UNLOCK STUFF !

SO KUDOS TO YOU BRAD FOR REALIZING HOW GAMING AND UNLOCKABLES SHOULD BE !!!

    P.S. Devil May Cry 3 ROCKS !

  • damn fuckin right!

  • SPREAD THE WORD

  • Teh i agree completely.

I've actually sold 90% of my console stuff and have taken up playing EVE Online it's place.

Games are still fun, but the fact that you can't get anything unlockable in a game anymore means it's just not worth playing through them as much as it was.

My life of hardcore gaming died with the release of the 360, unfortunately.

  • thanks

  • ye its pretty gay now cus if u think about it GTA if not EVERYONE used to use cheats on that game now if u use cheats u cant get trophies or Xbox Points which is proper gay and kinda makes games not as fun as you could make them.

  • cheats suck... learn how to properly play a game

  • then dont save the game with cheats

its a good thing that trophies/achievments are blocked once a cheat is entered as some people will get the achievment to easy

i have to admit tho games are trying to be more challenging way to much

  • ye i didnt mean that cheats should be allowed to be used and with trophies/achievements but cheats made the game more entertaining when completed or just in general

  • i remember the cheats on spider man on the PS1 to unlock all those weird clothing xD

  • i so remember that lol

  • wut i dont get is wut the hell are gamer points on xbox live supposed to do? r they supposed to give u some kind of sense of accomlishment or somethin? o.O

  • It shows how much of your life you've lost.

  • they make you feel like you have skill and have achieved something so you will keep playing

  • YEA!!!!! ... i meant that in the i also have no idea what they do

  • could not agree more with you

  • Could not agree more fuck DLC

  • which dmc is this?

  • the 3rd in the series

  • I STILL haven't beaten that game yet, i always just put it off even though i'm on the last level

  • tbh this is why i dont pay for games anymore i buy a game and i pay 60 bucks for 25% of the game then i have to pay for DLC on the other 75% ontop of the 60 bucks iv already paid for.

    stupid shit is stupid.

  • Haha! Get a pc!

Us PC gamers NEVER have to pay for patches.

  • You now, theres different between DLC and patches...we have patches for free, some DLC too but most of them are only for money

  • yea!!!

  • *cough*The Pitt *cough*

  • Well done Brad. I salute you man. Games are not what they used to be. Buying bullshit downloads. =D

  • amen brad amen

  • 0:01-0:36

    omg

  • dlc sucks

  • That's why everything Valve makes is great. They give us free content because they want to, and they enjoy it.

    FUCK YOU EA!

  • OMFOGMOFMOGFMFM DEVIL MAY CRY

  • Consumers buying into the crap like mindless sheep doesn't help also. Some people need to start growing backbones and achknowlage that they're being assraped by some of the DLC offers.

Especially when it's in the case that the developers REMOVED content from the final project to meet a deadline, then offer it as DLC several months after release. Which would mean you're paying $5-10 on content that would have just been free + the base price of the game.

  • Wait... games use to come with unlockables? No no no, this has to be a mistake. Never did such a ludicrous concept exist.

In all seriousness though, it's not just the extra tid bits that developers like to leave out and release later on. No, its actual segments of a fucking game now, from Resident Evil 5's Versus (A single MODE which really is just Mercs with 2 extra people, for $5) all the way to Prince of Persa's Epilogue (the fucking ENDING of the game).

Ugh, makes you sick in a way.

  • Let's be grateful that companies like Valve still don't take money for DLC. I wish more people from the industry had their views on the market.

  • Truer words never spoken.

  • He's right about this.

  • On second thought, I'd actually argue it's not good business. sure, most people with download your week-old DLC, but there's alot who may take a stand and refuse to purchase it.

if these developers like capcom waited maybe 1.5 - 2 months to release their "DLC", it would give off the image that they've been working hard over that time span to keep the game fresh, and thus may receive additional purchases from the protesters. it's not like people will lose interest in the extra month and a half.

  • DLC is a great way to extend the lifespan of a game.

however, its one thing to come out with new costumes or levels/maps a couple months after release, but making them downloadable 1-2 weeks after release just screams cheesing.

guess i shouldn't complain though, i keep giving them a reason to do it by downloading their extra content. if they can continue to get it away it, hell, way to go. the extra 5-15 dollars a month isn't gonna sink me anyway.

    capitalism ftw.

  • what? im not an iraq veteran, you have the wrong guy dude.

and why would i meet you in a hooverville? thanks for the concern, but im doing just fine. good luck with your situation though.

  • fuck xbox,ps3, and pc onlive is the new shit look it up (onlive) is the console

  • So true!

  • true dat, brad...

  • is this DMC 3?

  • DLC is okay for certain things, but it has been going too far. I barely even download anything. Only demos.

  • sorry for being the stupid one here but what is a DLC?

  • Downloadable Content

  • k thanks dude

  • No problem

  • Downloadable content, and games have changed, for the better for some things, for the worse for others

  • Gaming... has changed.

DLC game modes, with DLC costumes drift in a sea of DLC.

    Gaming... has changed.

  • AMEN! Great video! 5/5

  • tear....

  • ha brad did this on my birthday

  • lol, spread the word. Brad's the paranoid conspiratorial freak in War of the Worlds!

  • Lucky for us Pc gamers all DLC is free

  • except fallout.

  • Unfortunately, Steam has jumped on the bandwagon for charging for DLC.

  • Do you know if steam will charge for the left 4 dead DLC on the PC, if they do plenty more games in the sea hey :)

  • there isnt any DLC. When Valve releases a new updates it automatically updates it when you launch the game

  • hey, anything for the xbox l4d dlc wise :D

  • Valve don't charge for their content, I meant they ar starting to host paid content for other companies. Sorry for the confusion.

  • That was rather depressing brad!!

    but seriously, Amen dude, amen.

  • Yeah. I loved unlocking stuff. Not buying stuff.

  • games have changed.i liked it better with the old consoles like nintendo 64 and the mega drive.

  • Fucking A

  • 0:28 and not for the better :(

  • Amen

  • rofl.

    He sounds so sad.... xD

  • fuck man...hes right, i remember having to UNLOCK bitches

  • Why are you laughing?

  • Getting nickel and dimed over things that used to make games better but now just make them a rip off should make anyone not doing the ripping off sad.

  • True. All we're getting now are games with half-assed content in which we have to PAY for the other half....

    :(

  • OK GAMES HAVE CHANGED

  • the have changed! they aint fun no more, and thats why im selling my xbox and settin up my old ps2 and buying an n64 or somthing, get a ton of old pc games. they wer the days! fuck xbox and ps3

  • ill take your xbox

  • lol go for it

  • HAAAAAAHAHAHAHHAHHAHA

  • Thanks 4 the info dude!

  • Oh wow. Never look'd at that way until now.

Now I'm missin' the olden days way back when. Convertin' to nostalgia mode....... now!

  • tell me about it, it's kinda depressing

  • Expand how? Removing stuff from the game that was standard last gen and then reselling it?

  • this is so true brad

  • so true....

  • wait can someone tell me what he just said

  • when you beat a game, you should automatically get all the content, or meet other requirements. but since DLC and the sony and microsoft marketplace have opened you have to pay for maps, costumes etc.

  • Or, in the case of EA, pay for content that's ALREADY ON THE DAMN DISC.

    Fuck this shit.

  • I think you're forgetting Namco and Capcom :( bunch of bull, it should be against the law imo to charge extra for anything MADE less than 2 months after the game came out (other than special edition type of stuff, of course)

  • So true...

  • LOL

  • I agree with brad on this one.

  • Saw this live. Truer words were never spoken.

  • They were the golden days of gaming, i miss them

  • As much as i agree with Brad, games is an industry, they make bucket loads of money from DLC. Nothing we can do except look back at the better days.

  • Yeah, but I honestly think that pirating had something to do with this.

Argue all you want about legality and fairness, pirates, you pretty much brought this upon every honest gamer that works and pays to play.

But I'm a hypocrite; what should I know?

  • DLC is made because developers want to release the game as soon as possible, and release the extra stuff later.

  • What ?! :o

  • what the f-...

  • war...

    ...war never changes.

  • But war has changed though. Snake said so.

  • on the real though, this DLC fad is getting to be too much.

Games are already expensive as hell, and now I've gotta pay more for stuff that should've been included from the get-go?

  • I just see them as expansion packs, since that's what they are.

  • ya small ones too, example, Operation Anchorage was like what? 10 quest long, and iam pretty sure The Pit will be the same

  • Expansion packs aren't extra costumes or 'versus modes.' They usually offer more content than that.

DLC pretty much just gives developers an excuse to pilfer more money from consumers. On the other hand, given how fuckin' expensive it is to produce games nowadays, I don't really blame them.

  • you got a point

  • we'll, it probably costs like $5 to manufacture the disc/case and they sell it for $30 to $50 so say they sell 100,000 for a game at $50.

    that would earn them 4.5million

so... expensive or not they make a crapload of cash to pay for costs.

  • 5 dollars to manufacture it. loads more to develope it.

  • What 1PAcouchpotato said.

It's WAY more than five bucks to develop a game, bro.

  • he said 5 bucks to make the case or disc or something. it costs a lot more to put it on the disc

  • DLC is simple. If people are willing to pay for DLC, why wouldn't publishers charge for it?

BUT, developers like Valve have started handing out DLC for free and mark my words, it's just the start. Once Microsoft figures out that free is the way to go, DLC will once again be free.

Let's just hope idiotic little kids don't mess this up by buying stuff they don't need...

  • but buying stuff we dont need is the only way to save the economy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
