The Christians I was raised with didn't believe in the rapture, at least, not the way these people portray it. Also, all of them stuck fairly closely to the passages in Matthew where is says 'only God knows the day.' To claim that one knows when Judgement day will occur would be blasphemy. I doubt any of them bought into this. Indeed, I would hazard they will use this whole debacle as an example of false prophets and heresy for a sermon this Sunday.

Camping would have to explain why he needed so much money after May 21st. He advised his followers to drain their accounts before the "Rapture". By keeping his money, Camping indicated that he knew he was perpetuating a fraud.
