  • thank you Norma,Marilyn you brought joy in the world <3

  • Everything a man wants on a woman . She was that and much more . Let alone her hot body from head to toe . The beautiful sexy eyes , smile , great ass and legs . But also very sexy in everything she did .Her walk , when she sat down , when she looked .Very submissive .Loved the atention , ithe essence of femininity .Unlike the women today .Stock up , cocky , dirty mouth , trashy , unpolight , bad manners and masculine .

  • she was just a kid

  • she was one of the most beautiful person the earth could have posesed but sadly nobody seem to be unselfish enough to make her strong or encourage her like her"aunt" grace did, everybody wanted her money, posses her or gain something by hanging around her. nobody really knew her well and even now most people thing bad or misleading things about Marilyn. if you read the book by j randy taraborrelli you'll know the real Marilyn with facts, stuff said by family, actors and closest friends of hers.

  • may i ask what is her cause of death?

  • @jiko882 Official cause is overdose of barbiturates, suicide. Although this is subject to debate. I personally believe the Kennedy's did it.

  • from that young man in the 22nd row who seen you more than sexual.. just our marilyn monroe.

  • she died like almost 50 years ago, its a fucking half a century!

  • @dmng825 Not to be forgotten.

  • don't believe a word of all that was written on the princess and the starry sex symbol;

such a great performance by Elton John here, terrific post!

  • It was said that Shelley Winters gave Marilyn the idea to use the open mouth smile. Marilyn did.

  • I never knew her real name was Norma Jean. I wonder why she changed it....popularity?

  • @adlereagle123 Long story short, apparently, a "20th Century Fox" executive thought that "Norma Jeane" wouldn't work in the movie business. After several different ideas, the name "Marilyn" was settled upon (after Broadway star of the "turn of the century"...Marilyn Miller). "Monroe" was the maiden name of Norma Jeane's mother.

  • @sanjuro66 oh , well the name seemed to fit her well . its really pretty

  • @adlereagle123 "they made you change your name" <- the answers in the song. :)

  • @InnerSailor oh really? ive heard this song a lot and i never heard that lyric lol hha!

  • Most beautiful women to ever walk this earth , always be my idol rest in peace Marilyn the brightest star in the sky <3

  • Да бесконечно жаль и безгранично больно что Америка не сохранила такую личность!!!!!!!!!!!! Как мы в свою очередь Ю.Гагарина!!! Светлая память им!!!

  • Impressieve how almost 50 years after her death she is still rememberd.. and admired by so many

  • Marilyn Monroe, the famous screen legend was overweight, peaking at a dress size of 16, yet America still considered her the most beautiful woman in all of history.

  • @adlereagle123 And your problem is what?

  • @wtfe1970 I dont have a problem. Im just stating facts. Assumer.

  • <3

  • Next year on August 5th, It will have been 50 years since the world lost its brightest star. But no-one will ever forget her. She's touched so many lives, So many generations...Your star is just as bright now as it was 50 years ago. RIP Norma - Jeane Mortenson. AKA Marilyn Monroe <3

  • May you rest in peace Norma Jean <3 you are missed.

  • @peyrenepey

    I DO BELIEVE.

  • What Hollywood did that woman is just downright shameful. Same for Frances Farmer and so many other women they destroyed.

  • @kazywaz Because Elvis liked jail bait and he liked them dark haired like his mother.

  • Wonder why Marilyn and Elvis never got together ?

  • To me, this woman screams: "Hell no, life! You may have fucked me up but I won't let you fuck up the legend I'm leaving behind"

    .... :]

  • I heard her real hair colour was red... ^^

  • Marilyn, I only want to hug you, poor beautiful babe. You are the best woman of history. Beautiful, sweet, with a traumatic past. I never forget you Norma Jane :*

  • Marilyn and Diana had to fight for everything they achieved, and that achievement was the love and admiration of the people.

  • @Messylin YOU got be joking! I really hate ppl say that! It just show You have no idea what are u talking about! Read up about Norma Jeane (Mortenson)'s life and Diana's. Diana is great, but she hardlly fought that much to get to that postion(Personally I think the most sad thing is that Diana is "there" when She didn't try to get there!). Norma Jeane actually had FIGHT to get where she is.

    RIP. Queen of America!

  • @Messylin couldn't of said it better.

  • @Messylin and they both died for it... some could argue murdered for it... what does that tell you about the 20th and 21st century

  • Born June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California as Norma Jean Mortenson. Later she was Norma Jean Baker.

Marilyn Monroe was her stage name.

Marilyn was such a beautiful and talented young lady.

So many stars, actors, actresses, singers, and performers did young.

    Only the good die young.

    Good bye Norma Jean.

Elton John wrote and performed this song in memory of her.

    <3

  • @dhburnett: "1945-1947 Her successful modeling career brought her to the attention of Ben Lyon, a 20th Century Fox executive, who arranged a screen test for her. It was there that they decided to find her a new name. Following her idol Jean Harlow, she decided to choose her mother's maiden name of Monroe. Lyon, however, felt that the name "Marilyn Monroe" was sexy, had a "nice flow", and would be "lucky" due to the double "M" and thus Norma Jeane Baker took the name Marilyn Monroe."

  • @dhburnett: find more about marilyn monroe check "marilynmonroefamily" Monroe's birth certificate names the father as" Martin Edward Mortensen"( 2nd husband of Monroe mother GLADY),they had separated before Gladys' pregnancy. Although Gladys immediately had it changed to Baker, the surname of her first husband and which she still used. (Both MORTENSEN or BAKER are ALL NOT MONROE FATHER) The likely father of Norma Jeane, would have been Stanley Gifford, glady's coworker.

  • I see so many similarities between Marilyn and Diana, and not because of this song being shared between them. They both gave the world an emotional symbol on which to plant their dreams.

  • She is a Angle: god bless her... am just sorry she is not here with us & as a 17 year old girl... i want to have he bright, smart and pretty smile :D cause she is so bright! even her smile light's up the darkest of time's, when she act's she make's you smile and laugh.... but really we will know her for ever as the woman who took it 1 step further and all.

    L0V3 YH00 BABE! R.I,P

  • lovely video, lovely song x

  • yes it 1997 it was for princess diana but the origanal song was for marilyn monroe. her name is in the song look it up just saying he states that the song is for her then when the princess pasted he changed the lyrics of the song when he sang it for her:) thanks

  • it's like she is everbody's friend!

  • @oneasbeautifulasyou i meant the body.....she is natural...not too skinny....and thats great...

  • Excuse me? This song was written for Princess Diana, not nasty Marilyn Monroe. >.<

  • @Tanzanite800 Actually Elton John originally wrote this song in 1973 to honour Marilyn Monroe and then rewrote it in 1997 as a tribute to Princess Diana.

  • @Tanzanite800 FAIL, he wrote it for Monroe, then changed the lyrics after Dianas death.

  • @Tanzanite800 Marilyn wasnt nasty-she was used and abused by Hollywood and this is and will be forever her song

  • @Tanzanite800 this song was for marilyn monroe get your shit right stupid ass she was a huge part of history and always will be(:

  • @twinja

"Elton John's performance of "Candle In The Wind '97" on September 6, 1997 at Princess Diana's funeral was in front of probably in front of the biggest audience in probably anyone's life - a total viewing figure of over 2.5 billion." Obviously it was directed more towards Diana. Enough Said.

  • @Tanzanite800.......... Good bye Norma Jean..... is AKA Marilyn Monroe was written for MM... Sorry Tan truth is truth...

  • @dhburnett

Really? Her name was Norma Jean? I never knew that. Does anyone know why she changed it from that to Marilyn Monroe instead?

  • @Tanzanite800 a lot of Hollywood stars names were changed in those days. For instance, Frances Gumm was renamed Judy Garland and Marion Morrison became John Wayne. The studio heads felt that the name Norma Jean Dougherty (her married name) was not bankable, so they changed it. There are many legends to how they came up with "Marilyn Monroe." One thing is for sure, "Monroe" was her mother's maiden name so that may have come into effect.

  • @musicaltheatergeek79

I think Marilyn suits her better so I'm glad she choose that. Now that I think about it I can see why Elton John also choose to sing this song at Di's funeral. Marilyn and Diana are both quite similar in the fact that they are both strong, bold, and daring. They are also both the epitome of glamour, so that's probably why he choose to dedicate it to both of them.

  • @Tanzanite800 In the song, it also mentions Marilyn Monroe by name. In the second verse he says, "... All the papers had to say was that Marilyn was found in the nude," and in the last verse he says, "... Who sees you as something more than sexual, more than just our Marilyn Monroe." The song was originally featured in Elton John's album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" as a tribute to Monroe. In 1990 John dedicated the song to AIDS victim Ryan White. In 1997 he again reused the song for Diana.

  • @Tanzanite800 you're wrong.

  • those times when beautiful women werent made of plastic....:)

  • she had a natural glow that celebs nowadays could never have simply because it came from within not with makeup-_-lol

  • "Aphrodite of 20th Century"

  • @razaqureshi88 what does aphrodite mean? not to sound stupid. ... ;P

  • words cant describe how much i love marilyn. She seemed so extremly sad you just want to hug her n never let go.

  • she was beautiful beyond belief, every man thinks that he would have protected her from all the evil in her world

  • one of the most beautiful women ever to have lived.

  • marylin monroe or shirley temples?

  • i lovee youu marilynnn <3

  • uh, didn't she sleep with the president?

  • she was only 5'2"

  • So beautiful, if naive, so graceful: the woman in his bring !!!

  • Si belle, si naive, si gracieuse : la femme dans toute sa slendeur !!!

  • it's in the song... I guess you'd have to ask Elton. He co-wrote the song w another (straight) guy. But I take it to mean that he saw her as a real whole human being & not just the money-making sex goddess that rang the Hollywood cash register...ka ching. The whole 'glow'... inner~light thing man

  • totally false

    even her name

  • The most beautiful woman EVER!

  • @1892ynwakop no rita hayworth is the most beautiful woman ever

  • Great video, before my time but she still captivates me like nothing else.

  • all i gotta say is this is a great video!! thanx for posting :)

  • she had surgerys. she wasnt natural, but damn, a beautiful woman.

  • @dmng825 But how do you do surgery on the soul to 'fix' that? Hers was flawed & imperfect but beautiful. Men will always project their own desires on women.... but when do we start seeing them as whole persons ~something more than just sexual from the 22nd row? With all the tawdry plethora of pin-ups available to us do we keep coming back to her? There was a kindness there... a sweet soul we're still trying to protect against the hazards of this world.... a lonely & fragile candle in the wind

  • @dmng825 But how do you do surgery on the soul to 'fix' that? Hers was flawed & imperfect but beautiful. • @kindlydude yeah, i gues you're right, but what is 'sexual from the 22nd row' i get the idea, but what that mean?

  • @dmng825 the words are-"From the young man in the 22nd row who sees you as something more then sexual more that just our Marilyn Monroe" he means he sees her as wht she was a beautiful woman struggling to be accepted by the thugs who ran Hollywood in those days and would and could churn out 100 girls to replace her if she didnt do what they wanted.

  • saint norma jean baker

    saint martin luther king

    saint viola liuzzo

all the civil rights people J Edgar Hoover ordered killed to carve a path for an israeli, cuban right and british dominated American society

  • Fantastic video. My only complaint is the version of the song. I like the studio version much, much better because of the backing choir.

  • She was so beautiful

  • The US military were very smart for having Marilyn Monroe tour for the troops. She really poured out her heart and soul for the troops, and I bet it gave many of them the inspiration to continue fighting.

  • she was something very special

  • elton john's best song -best eulogy ever

  • im 8 years old and want to know who Marilyn Monroe was can someone help me out ?

  • @gagaster12 Marilyn Monroe was an actress and singer in the late 1950s and early 60s. She was known for her sex appeal as well as her talent. She was also very famous for having an affair with President Kennedy (as well as his brother, bobby) She died at the very young age of 32 in 1962. It was origonally thought that she commited suicide ( because of the overdose on sleeping pills) But in later years people thought she may have been killed as a mafia hit because of her affair with the Kennedy's

  • @slideshowgurl kinda more like mid 40s to early 60s

  • Yesterday was the 49th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's death. Just had to watch this again, GREAT job and MANY MANY thanks for making it!

  • This song Makes me happy but Sad,,,, but thats what happens when you grow up watching and loving stars... She was quite a woman

  • definitely a WOMAN

  • So damn pretty

  • I know I never knew her but when I hear this song and see pictures of Marilyn it makes me want to cry because she was fabulous and she didn't deserve to die in her thirties. I wish I knew her, she is my idol. R.I.P Norma Jean x

  • Did you know plastic surgery to be beautiful I do not think

  • i was obssesd with her for a month, i'd play this song all the time and in 2 weeks watched four of her movies. :)

Sei molto amata ora... Goodbye Norma Jean. Chiara

  • Abandonment, loneliness, incredible yearning for unconditional love, and a soul without the chance to "grow up" , remains a little girl in a constant search for fulfillment.....what a beautiful woman, with a sharper wit and mind than ever publicly portrayed. That is the frustration, demise, and defeat.

She drew within herself, as nobody in her circle loved her for the right reasons.

  • @nixternikki

load of crap manufactured by FBI tabloids

marilyn was a civil rights activist and one of Hoovers best enemies

  • @nixternikki ...the most perceptive comment I've ever seen on youtube about 'our Marilyn'.... the incredible pain of an abandoned child....and perhaps abused as well. Protect the candle's flame in your own children... & in your own hearts

  • @kindlydude Thank you for your kind review on my thoughts

  • Marilyn is still loved and missed to this very day<3

i bet she'd still be here if only she felt appreciated, and not

    constantly pounded by the media.

RIP angel, you are forever cherished.

  • I guess she had a lot of self esteem issues and had the great fear of disappointing others. If only her spirit could walk the earth to see what kind of a MEGA-icon she has become, how many (millions and millions)of true adoring fans she has, and that she is #6 on the A.F.I.'s top 100 list of the best actors/actresses of all times.

  • such an inspiring women...

  • All she wanted was to be remembered as a good actress and not just a eye candy for people to look at.But that was her gift and her curse, people couldn't help but just to watch her and ignore everything else. From the day she was born, she was mis-understood.If she was alive to see the effect she ended up having on Hollywood and the rest of the world....she may have died alot happier. She was famous as Marilyn, but she was happiest as Norma Jeane.Happy Birthday.xoxo

  • she was no lady but she was one hell of a women! she had a true heart and soul. love you marilyn monroe :)

  • Happy 85th Birthday Norma Jean. You will never be forgotten. I think MM would be amazed how much people still think about her almost 50 years after her death.

  • Happy Birthday my Beautiful Marilyn i hope Joe has something nice planned up there

  • Happy 85th Birthday, Dear Beautiful Marilyn. I'm honored to be named after you.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARILYN! :(

  • happy bday Marilyn

  • This just tells everyone that money isn't everything. Marilyn killed herself. Money can't buy happiness and this is a perfect example of that.

  • The absolute epitome of class and femininity. I just wish she had found more happiness in her life.

  • @BarackSays I could not agree more with you that MM is the absolute epitome of class and femininity.

  • This woman is one of the most influential women in time, not only did she inspire people when she was alive, but to still be inspiring people, to this very day is amazing.!

The impact she had on the world is legendary and it is such a shame she cannot see what she has done for so many people over the years.!

    R.I.P Norma Jean <3

  • Classical.

  • Marilyn was so beautiful and amazing.

Too bad she died at age 36.

She could still be alive if that did not happen.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • She is the stuff of Legend!!

  • I LOVEEEEEEE HER ALWAYS rip marilyn

  • A Goddes!!

  • she had no idea the impact she would have, even all these many years later in a completely different world that we live in to hers, young girls discover her now and idolise her, few will ever have that impact

  • Marilyn Monroe was, and always will be, a step above every lady in Hollywood.

  • Halle Berry is the new Marilyn Monroe and H.B. also had won a Oscar.

  • Oh would she have been happy to hear this... she would have wept like a little child, just as I did.

  • This is such a beautiful video... I never get tired of it.

  • does anyone have the video this preformance i wanna know what went on at 1:25 and i became a fan of marilyn about a month ago im seventeen adn a guy i wanna be famous so bad and marilyn was gourgous i hate what happend to her it makes me so horrified this song brings me so close to tears especally at "never knowin who to cling to when the rain set in" idk but that line really hits me

  • Such a beautiful smile!

  • I've always loved this song. There's a part of the song around 1:25-1:30 where Elton starts singing and then the audience starts clapping.I never understood why. Did someone walk on the stage then? or was there a picture of Marilyn Monroe, being unveiled? I never understood why the audience was clapping at this part of the song.Does anyone know? Thank You.

  • @aejmarsh Good question. I've seen the original concert video and don't notice anything special about that time frame.... Very interesting

  • @aejmarsh the audience reacted due to the truth that sentence holds..she was indeed a lonely girl..

  • q bella era esta mujer

  • If only she knew that 48 years after her death she would still gaining new fans daily...

  • We are on it Marilyn, don't worry :)

  • My Mom loves Marilyn Monroe, this song is awesome!! (;

  • the most beautiful song ever written for the most beautiful girl who ever lived

  • 46 people are clearly uncultured and/or deaf

  • Marilyn was so pretty i wish she had a better life

  • goodbye Norma Jean, from the young man in the 22nd row, who sees you as something more then sexual, more then just our Marilyn Monroe.

    favorite line of this song.

  • @Nelsonhojax15 its "more than sexual, more than just our...." as opposed to "more THEN". Small I know, but that is the correct wording.

  • RIP Marilyn gone but def not forgotten you are still a legend . Megan fox and those other girls dont have anything on you!!

  • @GinA7887 who's megan fox? pleeeeeaaaaseee dont put those two names in the same sentence, there's a huge difference in league

  • 46 people don't like the song, wow!

  • so sad that the fucking industry just wasted her life for money

  • when a gay man write a song about you long after your dealth. It show what a goddess you really are Marilyn. Your beauty, your smile and your voice is just like nothing on this planet. You're a angle walking on earth and there will never be another like you. I wish i can go back in time so i can see your beauty in person.

  • @ctn2573 i doubt that song was about her lol.

  • @GanjaGrowers This song is about Marilyn. Her real name was Norma Jean. School yourself.

  • @ctn2573 Only it was a straight man, Bernie Taupin, who wrote the lyrics.

  • Marilyn was so pretty

  • 2:54... that scene from her movie "Niagara" is so breathtaking! It's hard watching vids such as these, because while you want to marvel in how stunning Marilyn was, those of you that know her true story know that Hollywood was exploiting Marilyn for their own greedy and selfish agendas. Parading her around everywhere and promoting her as a sex symbol, yet, Hollywood thought very little of Marilyn and treated her like a dumb blonde. It's a shame. In reality, Marilyn was so gifted and intelligent.

  • This is a haunting and majestic portrait of the world's most famous woman xx

  • marilyn was too perfect

  • she was sad you can see it =/

  • Her life was very sad - her childhood especially

  • She will always be the most beautiful woman in this world!

    And nobody can change that.

    I love her.

I hope she can rest in peace...

  • what a beautiful song, written about a beautiful woman. Sadly Hollywood has never learned it's lesson because what they did to her, they continue to do to others.

  • i love her i adore her, she will always be an amazingly special woman. .....in history,

  • This song says exactly how i feel. i love her so much! her life, her beauty, her courage, her everything. <3

  • pure beauty ,pure refinement ,pure Marilyn

  • I forgot to add libysin this video is amazing. Thank you for taking the time to add picture to the words.

  • This is such a beautiful tribute to Marilyn Monroe. So much negativity surrounded her life and death so to write something that memorializes her is just beyond words.
