Photos of Grand Dutchess Tatiana show that she was a beautiful girl. She and her family might have survived the Russian Revolution if the UK government and monarch had acted more bravely.
hi Garrison446 - just watched a documentary on the Romanovs and apparently the British government offered asylum to the Romanov family but then had to withdraw it at the insistence of King George V (seen in telegrams from the king to the PM) - i guess he imagined the Russians in England might import revolution and make his own throne less stable - a shameful episode for the british royal family
its a wonder that so many British people laid down their lives for king and country, a king whom they did not even know. yet. the king himself was so brave that he refused to give his own cousin and his children asylum in Britain. deserting them to be executed by the communists in Russia. what type of spine did the king have
Nicholas II never wanted to be the tsar. He even said he was unprepared. As for entitlements and royal privileges, he lived pretty simply in Tsarkoë Selo, the tsar's palace.
He slept on an army cot. His children took cold showers except in the evening or when they were sick.
Also, Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia, and Alexei were all Nicholas and Alexandra's children, so I would think that all their fates are equally tragic, not just Anastasia's.
hi Qwertybot1 - in that he was a bit like george vi of england - yes, i think the tragedy was for all of them - i always notice the family similarity with george v
Wonderful footage of a vanished world preserved for posterity. But such a stupid man - he and his two cousins. So out of touch, so ignorant of the world around them, so convinced of their entitlements. It could only have ended as it did. But what tragedy they three and their adolescent rivalries caused the world.

This is a silly simplistic distortion of what happened.

hey
Bertttty13
yes it is - the little girls were so young and got caught up in the politics of an adult world and didn't deserve to die as a consequence

The informal stuff is very touching - a happy family with an unhappy destiny.
Thanks Nick.
