drove otr for 16 yrs as both o/o and co. driver. i have local job now all i do is drive from macon ga to jacksonville fl do a drop and hook and back home. i do not miss the otr bullshit not one bit !!! companies, dot, the motoring public wants a piece of your ass! o/o are a dieing breed, but when the dust settles we have no one to blame but our selves. we let this happen. when it was good, we did not do a dam thing to protect the indrustry. now we are paying for that mistake ...
But Robbie D Wood is a old fashon company. Try them out 205-744-8440
By the Way pay is up in specialty areas of the industry. If you are at a company just hauling general freight you wont make any $. Tanker, Cryogenics, HAZ-MAT, OIL Feild work is where its at. And I Do agree DAC reports are B/S. But A driver must seek work where he's needed and maybe wanted. Not at a fly by night company that feels a driver is a complete moron. And should never get home.
Trucking has turned into the biggest $ racket around. With the implementation of CSA 2010 that was the last blow. And any company that uses it isn't for the driver. But trucking is ruled by the insurance companies. Thats why so many trucking co. have slowed there trucks down. It use to be a great job though and not too long ago. But now ppl treat u like shit on the road, at the customer, and anywhere else. Even most companies could care less about there drivers. And thats SAD!!!
It changed a lot since the late 70`s. 94 was my last year on the over the road coast to coast. Even then you made the best of it. Reflecting back I have many memories many which are good. This doesn`t say what you mentioned getting up in the morning and doing it over again and those 600 miles more. For many now it is 500 mile overnight runs which is much harder especially on the east coast. I sure miss those old days though !!
i dont think you are strong enough to do this job go somewhere esle try to find something esiere for you you must be a danger on the road find yourself a job in a shop then your problem will be solve poor not strong enough little boy..........
Part 2: The woman that pas from time to time the road and the love of working in the way as it is! Driving in Europe is my idea in my time more diverse because USA driving same long trips with only straight roads… Thanks to remember my past. Here some photo’s from my time as truck driver: facebook.KOM/luc.r.vlaemynck
Part 1: I dream of this nomad way of living when youg and it came real when my woman make love with on of my army friends. Driving all over Europe is running away from friends and any social that everyone deserves. In my time 1988 – 2001, nobody use camera and the mobile start I guess round 1997. I’m sure that I did same as you; share everyone what is driving, the suffering, the lonely days,
I did Over-the-road trucking for 4 years and I love it. The life does sucks but the job is fun. I been of the road a year and want to come back. Once trucking is in you blood it dont come out. This video is biblical. If you bought it a truck brought it. You are right. Sometimes i think America does not appreciate truckers.
the problem is that nobody gives a dam they only care when rate go thrue the roof then they cry and then more driverd buy trucks and beat the rates to an ablvian i have been out here since i was 21 now im 31 been independant since 23 and it makes me sick cant aford nothing barly scape together a living 30 k pluss if nothing major breakes im sick of it
I'm impressed hand you did a very good job.I also am a trucker, but we both know,no matter how hard we try, hope or pray...we,l anyway you know,Screw it'Lets roll. catch you on the flip TRUCKER.
Amen brother! Though i never have driven a truck I want to thank you and your brothers and sisters who do drive for everything you do to provide all our goods to us across this great land on her freeways and highways!!! To the American truck driver, to all truck drivers, God Bless, blue skies and green lights all the way, keep us running!
If there is such a shortage of truckers, how come I spent thousands on schooling to get my cdl and all endorsements, with a clean driving record, only to get the run around for not having experience?
@deadwhitesuffering It's an insurance thing and also there isn't and never has been a "driver shortage." The only shortage there has been is drivers willing to work their ass off for minimum wage or less.
@killer2600 Totally agree. the "driver shortage" is a myth created by the trucking industry to keep getting new blood in that they can pay the lowest wage possible. If there was truly a "driver shortage" companies would treat their drivers like gold, especially their top drivers. But the story goes on like a broken record: the company uses you for awhile, then fucks you over and tries to blacklist you out of the industry VIA USIS(DAC), etc.
Only one kind of person can understand this: That is a Soldier or a Marine deployed. My time in the Army has made me miss the road and my old trucking life. A lot has changed in 3 years and its ridiculous. Fuel costs are outrageous. There are too many limits on us drivers, on our trucks, and on the road. What happened to the good ol days when you could park in a walmart parking lot and no one wouldve said anything.
Good video , The whole trucking industry needs to go on strike until the government wises up and quits treating drivers like some kind of criminals and truck owners like milionares who have nothing but money to pay the government. The log book violates our constittutional protection from being required to testify against yourself and the IFTA scam is just a way of charging duty on feul or double taxation ,also unconstitutional. The government uses permits to extort the truckers.
Ika6667 u sir are a moron. We have ur kind over here in the u.k and we call them sales reps! I suppose ur one of these 100mph heros who cross 3 lanes of traffic to get ur exit 10ft before the off ramp.It is our choice to do the job and ur right we shouldn't bitch about our lot but dealing with people with ur mentality everyday makes us more aggressive. I totally agree with u that there are a lot of trucking idiots out there but do u really feel a need to vent ur anger at decent truckers on you
I've been a trucker for several years now....and to be honest...this video could have been made 10, 20, 30 or 40 years ago. The challenges of being a trucker are no different now than they have ever been. On the contrary....a truckers life is much easier nowadays than it was 30 years ago. The trucks back then would literally beat you to death! Drivers in those days constantly suffered from everything from kidney and bladder problems to hemerroids. This video is a bit melodramatic for me.
i am by your side Dave since 1989, No matter what we say...No matter what we do.....This freight will move. Brokers...carriers...Federal/state governments just laugh when we propose a strike or shutdown. AND THEY ARE RIGHT.
Long hours,Harrassments,Low freight rates, unjust Fines, etc, etc will never end until EVERY single truck driver has had enough! Its a rotating door,As 1 trucker says enough..A new 1 appears. And the system knows this.
thanks for sharing this, bro ! i'm just getting started video documenting my life behind the wheel, i hope to someday soon be live streaming from the truck !! it's going to be educational i promise ya ! thank you again !
Why are you arguing with people who don't have a class 1.......they just don't get it, it's not all bad some of us know that, I drive truck in the Bc mountains 4 days a week & get paid good home the same day, you just gotta get out there & find it. Good luck fella drivers.....ps shiny side up lol.
It's ok, all of you negative shit talkers about truckers, go ahead and say whatever you will, use your puny brains and really put this into perspective, Q&A: What will you do when the silver spoon is yanked from your mouths? I sure hope you have good hunting skills, BUT WAIT! Where are you going to buy your ammo? hmmmm? Have fun clubbing and stoning your food ya cavemen, can you even build a fire without a lighter to cook with? No gas, no cars, have a nice walk.
Driver, you have nailed it right on the head. Those who have never made the sacrifices that we have do not truly understand. Without us Drivers to deliver the freight, the economy stops, and what people fail to see is that we are the first people to be affected by the economy. So, thank you for your documentary!
Hmm...it's intresting how you say that the trucking industry is in shortage of drivers. I hear that truckers are getting laid off. I work at the hospital but feel like it's an alright job. I'm just a wanna be, want to become a trucker but not sure how the demand is nowdays. Don't want to get laid off. I'm single, no kids, always wanted to drive a truck. Any advice would be appreciated.
@zombiesrule1 the industry itself is corrupt and the last thing you want to do is company paid training as it is a scam. The going rate to get my CDL was $1,250 cash up front because I chose not to finance the training. Find the cheapest school you can to get your license through but don't expect a lot of money working for any big general freight company. They start you out low and don't give you enough milies to survive and some companies short their drivers miles.
@zombiesrule1 should you chose to go into trucking then go in with a few months of savings to meet yoru basic cost of living expenses. You want a place to come home to and I'd find cheaper accomodations (i.e. room/studio etc etc). Keep your monthly expenses as low as possible especially during your training time etc etc and don't quit your day job until you know you have a job. Wait out all the background checks and get a complete MVR together and wait for your trucking app to clear.
@zombiesrule1 as I say to anyone, do your research and make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. The plus side is that you get to see country but is the job worth the life sacrifice that you will be make where hours go unpaid etc etc and I'd be very surprised if you found a company recruiter that would even tell you the truth. Go to your nearest truck stop and chat with real truckers at the fuel island and get their take. Good luck to you in your future endeavors.
Great film, but you say your job is not easy-don't forget it's your choice. If you don't like to sleep in your truck, do something else. Must be possible to drive local short distance freight in town, so you can stay at home in your comfortable bed over night.
there is no money in trucking anymore, thats why i got out of it. all the damn cops and stupid regulations and fees ugh you just cant win.
i had a cop wake me up from a dead sleep at a rest stop after i had already used up all my on duty hours saying i had been there to long and needed to leave, i couldent fucking believe that one.i just told him to go ahead and write me a ticket for doing my job and he left lol., it seems the government is just waging war on the working man.
You have completely changed my view on trucking/truckers....now dont get me wrong i never had or ever will have anything against them, i myself wanted to be a trucker im only 19years old but i feel im too young for this industry. I know i can do it if i wanted to but i feel i wont get no job due to my age. This video is amazing seriously good job! Wish you the best on the road!
"We are the hardest working underpaid workforce that history has ever known."
Guy, I could be wrong, but If I’m not mistaken, I believe those enslaved individuals, from Africa, whose STILL unpaid labor is the basis of the ENTIRE western hemisphere, probably worked a little harder, & were a smidgen more underpaid than u, & ur trucker buddies. (Part 1)
@DessalinesX And, if memory serves me correctly, they ARE known 2 history, even if they’re momentarily forgotten by those making ludicrous sweeping proclamations 2, mellow-dramatically, plead the case of some egocentric freight transporter. (Part 2---Conclusion)
I understand where your coming from driver, but know one held a gun to any truckers head to get them to sacrifice family, friends and a comfortable bed. The respect you get is the respect you earn, period and I don't care what industry your in. Trucking MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, has the foulest mouthed dirtiest most disgusting looking people on the planet. In fact, next time you record a video about the state of trucking, see if Big Freight will spring for a raise so you can buy a comb. Be Safe.
nice video. i was a truckdriver before but i am sitting now in a wheelchair. i am comming from the netherlands it's europe. my biggest dream is to meet a family and that i can drive whit a truckdriver and cros the usa. i have a family to three kids. two girls and one son. my son is a biggest fan from american truck's so i. drive safly and greet's. bertus from the netherlands.
What a crock of shit, making a sacrifice for the rest of us, please. You made your choices, you chose to be a truck driver and the sacrifices you make are for yourself and your family. So what, you delivered my food or whatever your paid to do so, its not a sacrifice, you did not volunteer. Give truckers a break? They disregard human life on the roads!!! I've been up and down Canada from Vancouver to Moncton 6 times and had near death experiences more than once because of truck drivers. F You
@ika6667 I'm a trucker too and your comments are pretty disgraceful. Yes, we chose to be drivers and the sacrifices ultimately are for our families. I'm grateful for my truck licence, there are thousands of workers being laid off at the moment. Fortunately for me, they still need supplying with goods and I still have a job.
As for truckers disregarding human life on the roads, that is just a sweeping generalisation and just plain wrong. Most truckers are well aware of the dangers on the roads
@nwtrucker38 Maybe I'll start video taping the way most truckers drive and post videos on youtube to prove my point. It won't take long to have a nice collection of videos of you assholes driving like idiots.
@ika6667 Likewise with car drivers, I could soon provides hundreds of examples of unsafe driving! But to label 'most' truckers as unsafe drivers is completely ridiculous. As I've said, there is poor driving everywhere, truckers or not. You seem to have a big problem with truckers for some reason but next time you fill up with Gas and go shopping, you might want to just give a second to think to how the goods your purchasing actually found the way onto your shelves!!
@nwtrucker38 The "big" problem I have is you guys don't realize how big you are compared to a car. Put it this way, would you rather be in a car with a truck driving badly, or in a truck with a car driving badly? Did a car ever give you wind turbulence on a slippery road when they pass you by at 140 KMH on a 80 KMH road? Goods don't have to travel that fast, I think trucks should have 80KMH limiters.
@ika6667 I'll be honest and don't have any Canadian trucking experience yet! I'm a UK trucker and we are limited over here to 56mph, a good thing IMO. I certainly wouldn't want to be in control of a truck at 70mph+! And whether I'd prefer to be in a truck or car when someone is driving badly...erm, neither, as both could have catastrophic consequences. I would say though that cars can maneuver and stop up to ten times quicker than a truck. A bit more patience from all road users would help!
@nwtrucker38 the roads here in the states are designed to be traveled at 70+. in some parts of the U.S. at least. The deal is how and when you use that speed.
@nwtrucker38 best way to observe truckers in action is by taking a greyhound down the interstate and looking at what truckers are doing in their cabs as they are going down the road. Some don't have their attention on the road and are briefly distracted. The industry iteself doesn't pay all that great especially at the bigger general freight companies and a mileaged based system is bullshit when you don't know how much you're getting paid. Can't live like that or expect anyone to be loyal.
"We are the hardest working underpaid workforce that history has ever known."
nnnnope. I empathize with the struggles of the modern day trucker. His life isn't an easy one. And in many ways, it's one of the hardest jobs in the civilian sector. But compared to a soldier, or marine fighting overseas for 15-18 at a time, truckers are pampered. I agree that truckers should be given more courtesy in a world that treats them like an inconvenience. But there are worse jobs.
I agree with the previous comment fuck all the undercutting assholes fuckin things up for all the good ol truckers. And fuck the government and theire stupid laws
you guys are panzies the hardest part of truking is puting up with all the bull shit laws, taxes ignorant assholes on cbs the worst part is competing against morans who work for free and suk broker balls for cheap freight nobody sticks together if you dont stick together you have nothing look at all the garbage haulers that went on strike they are geting 40buks an hour but not in over the road truckers some of you are so stupid you cant get a job but in the trucking industry nobody stickstogether
This guy is a kid. You wouldn't be doing this job for more than 1 yr. if you were not meant for it. The hardest part of trucking is not waking up. The hardest part of driving a truck is not having enough time to sleep and having to drive when you are exhausted. Those of us who have done this for 35 yrs. know what is hard.
i dont bitch about my job i love it but to be respected for what we do would be nice , i would love to see half of the people that do a 9-5 job get in a truck an do what we do for a short time an see how stressful it can be, or how long it takes to stop a rig when 4 wheels cut us off because there so worried about there life and have no idea what part we have in everyones life
its not every day you see some one who cares about anything we do as a driver other then slow people down and get in there way , my dad drove for 25yrs an put food on my table an took care us as well as being a viet nam vet , i followed right along the first chance i got an drove otr for a year and a half now i met my soon to be wife at the first company i worked for now i have a baby girl on the way and im running local haulin steel so i can be there for her , a little respect would be nice
@alexandrutudorf Just something I threw together in FL Studio. It's gone now, or on some hard drive somewhere??!! Not sure where the hard copy is. I'm rocking 5 computers over 2000 miles.........so it's somewhere out there I'm sure.
I give mad kudo's for this vid. Here is another of the new generation truck driver that does hold and live by morals as well as the BS we have to put up with everyday weather it be a hot tempered customer, poor motoring skill's of the general public, the ungratefulness of the public, our goverenment steady keep adding BS regulations and getting paid peanut's for BS, but we still do it because we love it and someone has to do it. Very mature video that deserves alot of credit where it is due.
This Thanksgiving, please give thanks to the obvious, but also remember the trucker's out there who brought you most of what is in your plate in front of you, and are probably still out there, somewhere, on the road while you're sitting at your table, enjoying the feast.
Thanks drivers - stay safe out there. I'll always give you the "all clear" ahead when ever you pass by me.
@hc2ca How's that? I was just saying that we work our asses off, we sacrafice A LOT so that the rest of civilization has what they need. It's not a death sentence at all, in fact its quite liberating to be a truck driver, however, I had a hard time paying bills on my wages. Money sure don't grow on trees, and dollar for dollar, trucker's hourly wage (on a per mile basis) is SHIT!!!! WAKE UP BRO!!
we need at somehow figure out a way to bind together as an industry and build strength in numbers. the trucking industry is one of the most critical and vital to the survival and healthy growth of any country, our not excluded. but we let brokers, shippers, receiver, and the man push and pull us until we are blue in the face, red in the eyes, and empty in the wallet. it doesnt havet to be this way, but change isnt easy.
No political plow, no association to speak of, leaves us at the mercy of corporate america aka many people, setting in offices, running computer programs, tightening everything down on the driver, pinching every penny for the company or area of the industry they represent, risk shifting, liability transfer, pointing the economic gun at us, so we can absorb as much of the flux in the economy as possible. A river of new drivers, floating their boat in a somewhat steady and unaffected manner.
Very well stated. If I had one thing to add and I am working on my part daily.. We as truck drivers need to show more professionalism. If we all look and act like idiots we will continue to be treated as such. We would carry a lot more weight is we came in groomed and professional when we demanded more pay, time off, or what ever.. Great video. I will be sharing it.. Thanks. Art a.k.a. TruckCentral
Been driving for 14 years myself. Getting up day after day, away from home can be hell and hard. Only thing that has made it easier for me has been the type of freight I haul. Always something different. Pay is nothing compaired to when I started. More traffic, more trucks. les friendly everywhere. New rules, harder to sleep with idle laws. Everyone wants what you bring, just bring it and leave. Don't stay, don't eat here, and how dare you rest there.
I want to be a trucker so bad. I have the license, the training...but I also have a family. I can't just pack up and leave home for weeks at a time. What a life, though. Maybe after my son's off at college me and the wife will join the fleet.
lol didn't like the music? ok, looks like you're a kick ass drive and the video is amazing too, who behind the music ? thanx! and oh yea thanx again for your hard work !
@fighter100k Maybe the driverss you are refering to are fully independent with their own authority that have a high paying contract with a specific customer but NOT every driver is like that. As a matter of fact I've often heard that the wages are aboput the same from 30 years ago and the freight pay. I'm not saying that what you said is not posible I'm just saying that is the exception not the rule.
@fighter100k I guess it depends, if they are a company driver or owner operater driver, team driver or if it could be a two income family....most of the drivers are underpaid...hubby has been trucking since 1996, we've seen so many changes, most of them for the negative.
very well said, lots of truth here, and he is right little or no respect for the driver, long ago a trainer told me,what do u want to be,a truck driver,or do you want to be, a pro driver" if you want to be only a truck driver then i wont teach you, but ill teach you to be a pro driver, there is a diff, ive seen drivers here in texas that are the bottom rung of,drivers, rude, nasty ,cutting off cars and changing lanes with no regard to traffic,,nope i didnt become one of these, iam a pro driver,
I became a trucker because i wanted better career and a better life. I went thru my own personal hell to finish trucking school and establish myself as a safe driver> I show courtesy to other motorists, either they like it or not. My goal is to make a promising caree out of this, but im not going to endanger another huuman being to do it. I just want our customers, who are all around us, to appreciate what we do. Give us a break so we can keep America rolling.
I think you said a lot of things most drivers want to say.I way drivers are treated comes from 20 or 30 years ago when you'd get out of prison and the only job you could have is to be a truck driver. It was a well known fact that all truckers were dirt bags. But now there are civilized people that are truck drivers but most shippers and receivers are stuck on that mentality from the old days.Thats why they treat us like crap when we go to pick up or drop off a load.
@fighter100k I drove for 6 months for US Xpress and I can tell you the starting pay rate is so low you can barely afford to keep an apartment. Most big companies have put a 5 year freeze on all pay raises regardless of what happens with the economy. The drivers who have big houses got there pay raises when the industry was a money making industry able to attract motivated people with the promise that you can work your way up the pay scale one day. It's not very promising like it once was.
im one of maybe 3 people in this state that give truckers any room to turn or do anything for that matter. im not old enough to get my CDL yet. still have a year. but i have all kinds off different trailers on my pickup 95% of the time and i have seen first hand on a much smaller scale what it is like when people dont respect you or give you room. it sucks,,,it makes alot almost imposible. i cant imagine what its like driving a semi with people like that but ill find out. thanks to all truckers
I want to be a trucker... Not because I care about bringing goods to people or that I even care care about people... I am extremely under educated and I have child support to pay... I can't find a decent paying job and driving a truck is becoming an extremely tempting and realistic job... I would be on the road away from everyone I know and able to consistently pay my child support with money left for me... So for me... Trucking would be about me... Nobody else...
@mirk1500 you are just going to be a sterring wheel holder not a Professional truck driver like I have been for the past 8 years. I ,love what I do but I hate to leave my family alone. I hate more the disrespect from motorists and fellow drivers. So if you are going to have that attitude stay out of the trucking industry.
@Velal07 Typical from another driver. A steering wheel holder is one that thinks this is about fun and not a business and a life. I love what I do too. I grew up in this business. It's not an attitude to expect or want more than what we get. Some of us care about what is going on and how things are changing. Respect from shippers and recievers are gone. Ever make a delivery and be told you can't use a restroom or even get a drink of water. Try nestle south of Atlanta
I respect what ya'll do. People need to take into consideration that you are the people getting america's products from place to place and one end of our country to the other, they also need to show you that respect as well with that said.
@TheKingofmaser as a trucker- I thank you for your complement. I was just saying what was in my heart. Im happpy to be a trucker and I feel good about keeping the economy rolling. I just want people to know that we go thru a lot to help people get what they need. A thank you and some respect is all we ask.
I, as a trucker, will continue to do my part in this industry to be a safe and courteous driver. I am proud to be a trucker and I want my customers to know that. I had setbacks in my career, but I have the will not to give up. And if anybody hates me for it, "so be it". I made my choice to make a difference and Im not sorry for it. Thru God, I will do my best to be a better, safe driver. I hope you do the same.
That is why all of us need to make a difference: get oof our butt and write to our congressmen about making improvements for drivers: Rest areas and truck stops for drivers to stop and rest. More parking for truckers, All of us can make a difference by doing something about it. Think positive. Thinking negative will acomplish nothing.
The best reward out of trucking is getting to my destination safe and getting home safe. Its not just a paycheck: its to let people know that I am just doing my job and in order to do that, I will do what it takes to be safe and i want my customers, who are all around me on the road, to be safe so that they can get the goods they need. People need to respect truckers for what we go thru to keep the economy rolling.
Personally, I did not ask anybody's permission to do this. it was my own free will to do this. I went thru my own personal hell to get were im at now. I love to drive. Im doing my part to keep the economy rolling. People must understand that truckers go thru a lot just to get them the goods they need.
Anybody that told me that this is easy is full of crap. I knew what I was getting into when I first started driving. I knew i was expecting hardships out on the road: being away from home, freinds, family: going thru all kinds of weather and road conditions and my my safety and for others depends on me being safe out there. What makes me mad that people don't appreciate what we do out there. This is not a 9-5 job! We dont get to see our families like others do
up your's. Hope we go back to trains and small delivery trucks ...your a dink whinning sack of shit loser...time to cut off every asshole trucker youe see...you are the least working over paid whinningd sacks of shit....TRUCKERS suck
@timcat100 Hey fuck face, first of bad idea to cut off truckers, i rode with one who got cut off and break checked and he purposely ran that car completely off the road, think 80,000lbs vs. 2000lbs. Honestly i would say you should say that to a truckers face but they are bigger people than you and can take critics they have proven time and time again they can endure and last. So learn some respect you bitch and by the way, your mother should have swallowed your worthless ass
@1usmc0 Hey cum breath...actually every chance I get I do tell most truckers off to thier face. You see hear what you wrote is the exact reason I shit on all truckers...I also drive for a living and ya trucks weigh alot more them me but what gives them the right to think they own the fuken road just because they are bigger.
The fact that trucks are bigger is every reason they should not be driving a rig like a mini van...fuk are you stupid...I guess you failed physics....oh ya thats explains it
@timcat100 OK clearly we are getting no where by fighting, yes trucks are bigger, did you ever think they may act like they own the road because they cant see if your there all the time? Seriously bro these are people who dedicate their life to making your easier and your lacking the basic human qualities of respect and dignity . So you dont completely agree with them, they are still people and people who work hard to make your life easy and that deserves respect. You sound really arrogant now
@1usmc0 Here in southern Alberta the cattle truckers are giveing all truckers a bad name. They deliver to Cargylle. The one particular asshole finally got pulled over by the police last week He drives a pink rig go figure. I understand how hard some of you might work. Impossible to respect that when a few truckers act like complete uneducated a-holes daily. Soon due to complaints every friken cattle rig in AB.CA is about to be harrassed by hi-way patrol because of these dinks. Getting a dash cam
@timcat100 I completely understand i will completely admit some truckers dont act like professionals at all and drive a rig completely irresponsibly. But then hate the cattle truckers (odds are those are farmers or farmers kids not real over the road truckers) and if they are farmers that would explain why they drive the rig so poorly and unprofessional. I mean i agree completely. But most professional drivers try their best to drive responsibly because that job is how they feed their family.
@1usmc0 The only responsible truckers here in Alberta are the fule truckers. 99 percent perfect. The cattle truckers, safeway, The Brick, Wide Loads, are all complete jerks. Example where is the logic in driving a house down the hi-way at 120 km's per hour. I have seen many wide loads moving a house so fast against a 80/90 wind that the shingles are getting ripped off. This whole trucking industry needs a majour shakedown. I Signal to change a lane and most trucks engage turbo Why??? WHY???
@timcat100 Sorry for the delay in response, i completely understand some truckers as with people of all professions are not professional, but you find people like that in all careers. There is not a lot you can do. As far as the turbo goes again they are just part of that bad percentage. But dont allow that to make your mind up on all truckers. That is like saying you hate all law enforcement due to the actions of one or two State Troopers, get my point?
@1usmc0 Wittnessed a truck turned left on a green failed to yield. Happened today...in Strathmore AB Canada...I highly doubt the car that slammed into the side and underneath had any survivours....I am getting really tired of trucker's driving like they are in sports cars here in this Province.
@timcat100 again every career has unprofessional workers and you just happen to find them all. Police have unprofessional cop and so does every career out there. Some truckers are rookies and are still learning. No one is a perfect driver to start with and it all takes practice. I am sorry to hear about what happened but some are just flat out unprofessional. Down here a trucker did not check his tires and had a blow out that killed a woman driving. Sometimes rushing leads to accidents.
@1usmc0 Your right there but there are those who have not really been trained prperly and as truckers we should assist them in areas were they do not have he the experiences , other than ridicule them as I'm sure you have seen done also.
@mobilechief thanks, i agrees we should stand tall as one voice and help drivers who are not seasoned. And if they tell us off then it is not for a lack of trying. Yeah i have seen drivers ridicule someone else for making a mistake due to being new to the road.
Semper Fi and keep the shiny side up, Safe trucking my friend
great video! i drove otr for awhile and loved it. spent 25 years in an office and needed to change, so i chose truck driving. no late loads, no accidents, no tickets. driving locally now, and it's just not the same. thanks for the video. too bad everyone who drives a car can't see it to understand what we go through.
sHAITHIS45>>> yeah, i kept my CDL for a few years too but when i see the current want ads for truckers, nothing has changed from actually 15 years ago when i parked the truck. the pay is the same lol. starting at .35 cents a mile wow that sux. plus the lumbers and all that bs. i was hauling no touch after a while but still after the road expenses and taxes and everything else the pay sucked.
@RUSSSELLLLL I think that is why I never progressed or returned. The industry did me a favor (Knight, Swift) not even hiring me back or processing my application. I'm in a stable job now with a stable salary and home every night. Kept my CDL and hazmat around for kicks. My DAC was pretty much f'd anyway but I walked away from it all with a clean MVR. From what I've seen it is not an industry based on over all work xp.
@RUSSSELLLLL the only reason I keep my CDL is that it is an incentive to at least keep in shape and pass my physicals. Though I might never use it again for quite a long time, still good to have. I had my adventures any way and Canada was part of it. Survived and took and different path in the work force. Take care.
That's why I got out of trucking ten years ago. The isolation, and same old truck stops everyday. Did have a lot of fun too and met some amazing people and fellow truckers. Were some good laughs out there. Be glad you are not punching a clock or having to work with the same loser people everyday like I do in my office job. I still miss some of it and think about going back someday. Like they say, once it's in your blood it never leaves.
@RUSSSELLLLL Swift wore me out being governed at 60 mph. That took over 2 years. Actually I made a decision as of December 2004 to take an out and return to telecom wireless test work and never looked back. Increased my computer knowledge and guaranteed my ticket out of the industry. I still have my CDL but expecting to keep my skills sharpened while work a non-driving position is a pipe dream.
Boycotts.. you know.. fix stuff like this. But since a lot of truckers are blind to circumstance and just does the job out of habit, or because 'it's all they know how to do' are part of the bigger problem
great video my dad is a trucker also and every point you made in this video is correct there are more and more regulations coming out daily and it is impossible to keep them all straight. my dad has been trucking for 30 + years and still going strong
Jimmy Carter was the villan for deregulating the transportation industry. Hauling rates were cut to the bone due to too much competition. This still holds true today.
@june201955 to add to your comment, take a look at how some general freight companies operate and take a newbies money for training only to find they are not making much starting out and are in debt to the company. That is how corrupted it has gotten.
@shaithis45 You must be talking about (their) "Lease Purchase Program" or the sending of a new hire to (their) "Truck Driving School" that they offer to finance for you. Yeah, what sweet people they are, (sarcasm). It's an old game though. I only know of a few freight companies that still do this. The end result is that they profit by the newbie working for next to nothing.
@june201955 when I went through Swift for my CDL it was before their academy BS started up. I paid $1,250 for my training and paid cash up front and didn't have to double up in a motel room (that was back in '02. The expensive rate does not necessarily guarantee you the best training.
this is the truth. godbless man. keeping a trucking bisness running is hard. exspecually a logging company. Times are hard an you know the filling man. the truth is the truth.
I am a trucker also, but I would never say that people could not live without us, because if not us other guys would come and do it. In reality trucking is very easy job compared to other jobs, its just that regulation laws and pay make it look real crapy and not worth doing, but again situation is such because there is too many companies and drivers that want to be in this business....
Love to all my Brother&Sister Truckers My Grandfather,Father,Big brother all trucked many years, and 20 years for me still trying to hang in. Keep on Keepin on! Your not alone! God Bless.
.... you are soooooo right, without us America would stop, no Food, no Drinks, no Toy's and nothing to sit on, away from Family and Friends .... Truckers are Heros even if some People don't admit.
I don't think there needs to be any words except..
You know things are really bad when Jeff or TruckerTwoTimes hangs up his boots. I still can't get the image out of my head of seeing him behind a keyboard.
I tell you.. Obummer will end up worse then even George Bush Junior was because he doesn't have a clue. One of these days he's gonna pay for his stupidity when he doesn't have food on his table or a tv to buy.
This is all his and Bush's fault so I hope somebody get impeached.
I drive in Europe , looks like "same shit ,diffrent continent" . We should all take a leaf outa French truckers books . They dont like summat they just STOP. Within a week the Country is struggling , the Govt caves in ... job done :).
You can tell people all day long about how everything they have was at one point on a truck and they still wont respect the fact. A couple years ago when i was hauling gravel to a construction site were they were building a new neighborhood complete with a park and a school, It was there when i realized , that a truck brought in heavy equipment to break ground and a truck will bring in the new landscaping including trees to finnish off the project, and will have touched everything in between.

421ssrida 1 month ago
It changed a lot since the late 70`s. 94 was my last year on the over the road coast to coast. Even then you made the best of it. Reflecting back I have many memories many which are good. This doesn`t say what you mentioned getting up in the morning and doing it over again and those 600 miles more. For many now it is 500 mile overnight runs which is much harder especially on the east coast. I sure miss those old days though !!

@deadwhitesuffering It's an insurance thing and also there isn't and never has been a "driver shortage." The only shortage there has been is drivers willing to work their ass off for minimum wage or less.
killer2600 4 months ago

I'm just a wanna be, want to become a trucker but not sure how the demand is nowdays. Don't want to get laid off. I'm single, no kids, always wanted to drive a truck. Any advice would be appreciated.
zombiesrule1 1 year ago
@zombiesrule1 the industry itself is corrupt and the last thing you want to do is company paid training as it is a scam. The going rate to get my CDL was $1,250 cash up front because I chose not to finance the training. Find the cheapest school you can to get your license through but don't expect a lot of money working for any big general freight company. They start you out low and don't give you enough milies to survive and some companies short their drivers miles.
shaithis80 1 year ago
@zombiesrule1 should you chose to go into trucking then go in with a few months of savings to meet yoru basic cost of living expenses. You want a place to come home to and I'd find cheaper accomodations (i.e. room/studio etc etc). Keep your monthly expenses as low as possible especially during your training time etc etc and don't quit your day job until you know you have a job. Wait out all the background checks and get a complete MVR together and wait for your trucking app to clear.
shaithis80 1 year ago
@shaithis80 Thanks, preciate it.
zombiesrule1 1 year ago
@zombiesrule1 as I say to anyone, do your research and make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. The plus side is that you get to see country but is the job worth the life sacrifice that you will be make where hours go unpaid etc etc and I'd be very surprised if you found a company recruiter that would even tell you the truth. Go to your nearest truck stop and chat with real truckers at the fuel island and get their take. Good luck to you in your future endeavors.

(Part 1)

F You
ika6667 1 year ago
@ika6667 I'm a trucker too and your comments are pretty disgraceful. Yes, we chose to be drivers and the sacrifices ultimately are for our families. I'm grateful for my truck licence, there are thousands of workers being laid off at the moment. Fortunately for me, they still need supplying with goods and I still have a job.
As for truckers disregarding human life on the roads, that is just a sweeping generalisation and just plain wrong. Most truckers are well aware of the dangers on the roads
nwtrucker38 1 year ago
@nwtrucker38 Maybe I'll start video taping the way most truckers drive and post videos on youtube to prove my point. It won't take long to have a nice collection of videos of you assholes driving like idiots.
ika6667 1 year ago
@ika6667 Likewise with car drivers, I could soon provides hundreds of examples of unsafe driving! But to label 'most' truckers as unsafe drivers is completely ridiculous. As I've said, there is poor driving everywhere, truckers or not. You seem to have a big problem with truckers for some reason but next time you fill up with Gas and go shopping, you might want to just give a second to think to how the goods your purchasing actually found the way onto your shelves!!
nwtrucker38 1 year ago
@nwtrucker38 The "big" problem I have is you guys don't realize how big you are compared to a car. Put it this way, would you rather be in a car with a truck driving badly, or in a truck with a car driving badly? Did a car ever give you wind turbulence on a slippery road when they pass you by at 140 KMH on a 80 KMH road? Goods don't have to travel that fast, I think trucks should have 80KMH limiters.
ika6667 1 year ago
@ika6667 I'll be honest and don't have any Canadian trucking experience yet! I'm a UK trucker and we are limited over here to 56mph, a good thing IMO. I certainly wouldn't want to be in control of a truck at 70mph+! And whether I'd prefer to be in a truck or car when someone is driving badly...erm, neither, as both could have catastrophic consequences. I would say though that cars can maneuver and stop up to ten times quicker than a truck. A bit more patience from all road users would help!
nwtrucker38 1 year ago
@nwtrucker38 the roads here in the states are designed to be traveled at 70+. in some parts of the U.S. at least. The deal is how and when you use that speed.
shaithis80 1 year ago
@nwtrucker38 best way to observe truckers in action is by taking a greyhound down the interstate and looking at what truckers are doing in their cabs as they are going down the road. Some don't have their attention on the road and are briefly distracted. The industry iteself doesn't pay all that great especially at the bigger general freight companies and a mileaged based system is bullshit when you don't know how much you're getting paid. Can't live like that or expect anyone to be loyal.
shaithis80 1 year ago
Gotta say; that was excellent.
You said it in a straightforward way.
Not whining, not blowing smoke; just straight up the way it is.
And also the way you say things in a calm tone, cool.

Thanks drivers - stay safe out there. I'll always give you the "all clear" ahead when ever you pass by me.

I drive a truck and thies guy makes it sound like a death sentence.....
hc2ca 1 year ago
@hc2ca How's that? I was just saying that we work our asses off, we sacrafice A LOT so that the rest of civilization has what they need. It's not a death sentence at all, in fact its quite liberating to be a truck driver, however, I had a hard time paying bills on my wages. Money sure don't grow on trees, and dollar for dollar, trucker's hourly wage (on a per mile basis) is SHIT!!!! WAKE UP BRO!!
deathfromatruck 1 year ago
we need at somehow figure out a way to bind together as an industry and build strength in numbers. the trucking industry is one of the most critical and vital to the survival and healthy growth of any country, our not excluded. but we let brokers, shippers, receiver, and the man push and pull us until we are blue in the face, red in the eyes, and empty in the wallet. it doesnt havet to be this way, but change isnt easy.
intelceleron44 1 year ago

Velal07 1 year ago

Give us a break so we can keep America rolling.
haynes1776 1 year ago
I think you said a lot of things most drivers want to say.I way drivers are treated comes from 20 or 30 years ago when you'd get out of prison and the only job you could have is to be a truck driver. It was a well known fact that all truckers were dirt bags. But now there are civilized people that are truck drivers but most shippers and receivers are stuck on that mentality from the old days.Thats why they treat us like crap when we go to pick up or drop off a load.
cdubois13 1 year ago
@fighter100k I drove for 6 months for US Xpress and I can tell you the starting pay rate is so low you can barely afford to keep an apartment. Most big companies have put a 5 year freeze on all pay raises regardless of what happens with the economy. The drivers who have big houses got there pay raises when the industry was a money making industry able to attract motivated people with the promise that you can work your way up the pay scale one day. It's not very promising like it once was.

Nobody else...
mirk1500 1 year ago
@mirk1500 you are just going to be a sterring wheel holder not a Professional truck driver like I have been for the past 8 years. I ,love what I do but I hate to leave my family alone. I hate more the disrespect from motorists and fellow drivers. So if you are going to have that attitude stay out of the trucking industry.
Velal07 1 year ago
@Velal07 Typical from another driver. A steering wheel holder is one that thinks this is about fun and not a business and a life. I love what I do too. I grew up in this business. It's not an attitude to expect or want more than what we get. Some of us care about what is going on and how things are changing. Respect from shippers and recievers are gone. Ever make a delivery and be told you can't use a restroom or even get a drink of water. Try nestle south of Atlanta

Odds are, if you bought it - a truck driver brought it, so please show us the 'RESPECT' we deserve on the road!

I hope you do the same.
god speed and keep on trucking!
haynes1776 1 year ago
That is why all of us need to make a difference: get oof our butt and write to our congressmen about making improvements for drivers: Rest areas and truck stops for drivers to stop and rest. More parking for truckers, All of us can make a difference by doing something about it. Think positive. Thinking negative will acomplish nothing.
haynes1776 1 year ago
The best reward out of trucking is getting to my destination safe and getting home safe. Its not just a paycheck: its to let people know that I am just doing my job and in order to do that, I will do what it takes to be safe and i want my customers, who are all around me on the road, to be safe so that they can get the goods they need. People need to respect truckers for what we go thru to keep the economy rolling.
haynes1776 1 year ago
Personally, I did not ask anybody's permission to do this. it was my own free will to do this. I went thru my own personal hell to get were im at now. I love to drive. Im doing my part to keep the economy rolling. People must understand that truckers go thru a lot just to get them the goods they need.
haynes1776 1 year ago
Anybody that told me that this is easy is full of crap. I knew what I was getting into when I first started driving. I knew i was expecting hardships out on the road: being away from home, freinds, family: going thru all kinds of weather and road conditions and my my safety and for others depends on me being safe out there. What makes me mad that people don't appreciate what we do out there. This is not a 9-5 job! We dont get to see our families like others do

shilsyk 1 year ago
@timcat100 Hey fuck face, first of bad idea to cut off truckers, i rode with one who got cut off and break checked and he purposely ran that car completely off the road, think 80,000lbs vs. 2000lbs. Honestly i would say you should say that to a truckers face but they are bigger people than you and can take critics they have proven time and time again they can endure and last. So learn some respect you bitch and by the way, your mother should have swallowed your worthless ass
1usmc0 1 year ago
@1usmc0 Hey cum breath...actually every chance I get I do tell most truckers off to thier face. You see hear what you wrote is the exact reason I shit on all truckers...I also drive for a living and ya trucks weigh alot more them me but what gives them the right to think they own the fuken road just because they are bigger.
The fact that trucks are bigger is every reason they should not be driving a rig like a mini van...fuk are you stupid...I guess you failed physics....oh ya thats explains it
timcat100 1 year ago
@timcat100 OK clearly we are getting no where by fighting, yes trucks are bigger, did you ever think they may act like they own the road because they cant see if your there all the time? Seriously bro these are people who dedicate their life to making your easier and your lacking the basic human qualities of respect and dignity . So you dont completely agree with them, they are still people and people who work hard to make your life easy and that deserves respect. You sound really arrogant now
1usmc0 1 year ago
@1usmc0 Here in southern Alberta the cattle truckers are giveing all truckers a bad name. They deliver to Cargylle. The one particular asshole finally got pulled over by the police last week He drives a pink rig go figure. I understand how hard some of you might work. Impossible to respect that when a few truckers act like complete uneducated a-holes daily. Soon due to complaints every friken cattle rig in AB.CA is about to be harrassed by hi-way patrol because of these dinks. Getting a dash cam
timcat100 1 year ago
@timcat100 I completely understand i will completely admit some truckers dont act like professionals at all and drive a rig completely irresponsibly. But then hate the cattle truckers (odds are those are farmers or farmers kids not real over the road truckers) and if they are farmers that would explain why they drive the rig so poorly and unprofessional. I mean i agree completely. But most professional drivers try their best to drive responsibly because that job is how they feed their family.
1usmc0 1 year ago
@1usmc0 The only responsible truckers here in Alberta are the fule truckers. 99 percent perfect. The cattle truckers, safeway, The Brick, Wide Loads, are all complete jerks. Example where is the logic in driving a house down the hi-way at 120 km's per hour. I have seen many wide loads moving a house so fast against a 80/90 wind that the shingles are getting ripped off. This whole trucking industry needs a majour shakedown. I Signal to change a lane and most trucks engage turbo Why??? WHY???
timcat100 1 year ago
@timcat100 Sorry for the delay in response, i completely understand some truckers as with people of all professions are not professional, but you find people like that in all careers. There is not a lot you can do. As far as the turbo goes again they are just part of that bad percentage. But dont allow that to make your mind up on all truckers. That is like saying you hate all law enforcement due to the actions of one or two State Troopers, get my point?

@1usmc0 Wittnessed a truck turned left on a green failed to yield. Happened today...in Strathmore AB Canada...I highly doubt the car that slammed into the side and underneath had any survivours....I am getting really tired of trucker's driving like they are in sports cars here in this Province.
timcat100 1 year ago
@timcat100 again every career has unprofessional workers and you just happen to find them all. Police have unprofessional cop and so does every career out there. Some truckers are rookies and are still learning. No one is a perfect driver to start with and it all takes practice. I am sorry to hear about what happened but some are just flat out unprofessional. Down here a trucker did not check his tires and had a blow out that killed a woman driving. Sometimes rushing leads to accidents.
1usmc0 1 year ago
@1usmc0 Your right there but there are those who have not really been trained prperly and as truckers we should assist them in areas were they do not have he the experiences , other than ridicule them as I'm sure you have seen done also.
mobilechief 1 year ago
@mobilechief thanks, i agrees we should stand tall as one voice and help drivers who are not seasoned. And if they tell us off then it is not for a lack of trying. Yeah i have seen drivers ridicule someone else for making a mistake due to being new to the road.

RUSSSELLLLL 1 year ago
@RUSSSELLLLL I think that is why I never progressed or returned. The industry did me a favor (Knight, Swift) not even hiring me back or processing my application. I'm in a stable job now with a stable salary and home every night. Kept my CDL and hazmat around for kicks. My DAC was pretty much f'd anyway but I walked away from it all with a clean MVR. From what I've seen it is not an industry based on over all work xp.
shaithis45 1 year ago

RUSSSELLLLL 1 year ago
@RUSSSELLLLL Swift wore me out being governed at 60 mph. That took over 2 years. Actually I made a decision as of December 2004 to take an out and return to telecom wireless test work and never looked back. Increased my computer knowledge and guaranteed my ticket out of the industry. I still have my CDL but expecting to keep my skills sharpened while work a non-driving position is a pipe dream.
shaithis45 1 year ago
@RUSSSELLLLL I agree with you regarding the isolation. Also the lack of making a decent check wasn't worth the time put in.

Boycotts.. you know.. fix stuff like this. But since a lot of truckers are blind to circumstance and just does the job out of habit, or because 'it's all they know how to do' are part of the bigger problem

june201955 1 year ago
@june201955 to add to your comment, take a look at how some general freight companies operate and take a newbies money for training only to find they are not making much starting out and are in debt to the company. That is how corrupted it has gotten.
shaithis45 1 year ago
@shaithis45 You must be talking about (their) "Lease Purchase Program" or the sending of a new hire to (their) "Truck Driving School" that they offer to finance for you. Yeah, what sweet people they are, (sarcasm). It's an old game though. I only know of a few freight companies that still do this. The end result is that they profit by the newbie working for next to nothing.
june201955 1 year ago
@june201955 when I went through Swift for my CDL it was before their academy BS started up. I paid $1,250 for my training and paid cash up front and didn't have to double up in a motel room (that was back in '02. The expensive rate does not necessarily guarantee you the best training.
