I am a 19 yr old who is planning on going to law school. The area of tax law seems to be something that I'm interested in. What is this specialization like?
You don't need a secrete tax haven. Do like the Rockefellers, Fords, Morgans, etc. Set up a foundatiion as they do. They don't pay taxes because they don't own anything; it's owned by the foundation. We are not stupd Mr. Professor know-it-all. You are just throwing up flack. If you don't know how foundations are used by the very rich then you need to return your Nobel Prize. You are an economic idiot!
when the u.s. stops being a tax haven for foreigners, yet fleecing its citizenry via taxation - then and only then - will these commies have an argumentative leg to stand on. Why do they worry about folks looking to save their money? They should be more worried about the coming collapse of the u.s. economy... thanks in part to folks with minds like them.
Stiglitz has said elsewhere that he agrees with the idea of taxing community created land values to pay for govt. services all of which increase land value the in hands of landowners at the expense of non-landowners. Any shift of incentive destroying taxation away from earned incomes and onto land values would end the incentive to avoid taxation by going offshore. Such taxes are unavoidable because land cannot be taken out of the taxing jurisdiction and obviously cannot be taken offshore.
Lucy, you really ought 2 start doing some research on the money laundering done by large corporations, the CIA, & investment houses. Drug money that our GOVT is producing!
Plz focus on some REAL news. "Secret" bank accounts. oooooo!! I hate when people don't such a totally one-sided view which actually is diverts attention to the REAL problem. Do some real research on an untouched issue.fraud and insider trading that occurred and been IGNORED on the days b4 911--put options on the airlines.
This guy is a real dipstick. They are getting started a bit late on this cause. This is more govt spin via the media just meant to distract people and prevent everyone else from profiting now that the rich have made killings for years. Not a better banking climate???!!! Duh! Of course they are better. The only sense in which they aren't good is for the govt of other countries that are gouging people.

Too bad all of Stiglitz's complaints about tax havens have turned out to be complete BS.

do not need to go off shore for tax reason usa tax code is the best if you know how to use it
however, putting your business off shore is good for asset protection that is the reason a person should do it
