@typhoonstorm95 Do you think the American government of Martin Luther King Jr. did not control the media in some way? Or what about Gandhi's India? If any group uses violence to fight violence they ruin the image of their cause. Currently Uyghurs are stabbing random and innocent civilians to get their point across. Civil disobedience must be peaceful, and agreeably may be slow and costly but is the ethically correct way for any civil group to enact change in their society.

@61111 The PRC doesn't have free media. Civil disobedience only worked for Gandhi because India had free media which the entire world can see. The PRC media is controlled by the government and foreign media is 'asked' to turn off their cameras. The Uyghurs have protested peacefully guess what happen to them? They were massacred or executed in prison or tortured even though their protest was civil. The Tiananmen Square Massacre of Chinese students and Tibetan Massacres. The PRC has not changed.

@typhoonstorm95 The fact that one may die for his/her cause in peaceful protest doesn't change a thing. I said it is slow but is the ethically correct thing to do. Violence against violence doesn't resolve anything. Yes its possible the protesters could face harsh consequences but this should not stop them. The PRC wishes it controls the media, the truth is that much that goes on is still reported. I just think that the Uyghurs should act more intelligently to gain support.

@typhoonstorm95 I would also like to point out that China has over 50 minorities (including the Uyghurs) that receive many benefits, such as exemption from the one child policy and so on. Many of these minorities are enjoying a higher literacy rate, GDP growth, infrastructural improvements, and a significantly higher life expectancy.

Why is this never mentioned? I encourage you to see all points in an argument. Personally I know I have not grasped all sides but I am trying.

I do know there are harsh violations of rights but still do not picture it as genocidal and dreadful as you have. The PRC position in the UNSC ensures their strength and power over nations like they did to Macedonia to switch recognition from ROC to the PRC so Macedonia could have peacekeeping missions.

@61111 These were countries with very liberalized media, with many different organizations NOT controlled by the state, and plenty of people from other countries have their reporters in those countries, even in those times. This is not so in China. Oftentimes the reporters have to make their recordings in secret. Uyghurs seem to be lashing out at whomsoever is there that they can blame for their misery - migrant Han immigrating to Uyghur land. If somebody moved into your house, wouldn't you?

the "uyghur" nationality was a creation of the Soviet union in 1921. the soviet puppet sheng shicai applied the name "uyghur" (Stolen from the uyghur khaganate and the real Yugur of Gansu province), and applied it to all turkic speaking muslims in northwest china.

Uyghurs cooperated with the USSR, KMY, Chinese Communists, USA, UK, and Japan to some degree at different times in the first half of the 20th century, because they were trying to escape being absorbed by China, which has happened anyways, sadly.

During the Dungan revolt, multiple Hui Generals served in the Qing army, and also in the Boxer Rebellion, one of the best units in the Chinese army was the Gan Jun, made out of hui troops who terrorized the foreigners in the legations.

the first east turkestan republic was crushed by Hui General Ma Zhancang in 1934, the second one in 1944 was a soviet puppet

Stalin ordered Sheng Shicai to steal the Uyghur name from the 1,000 year old uyghur khaganate, and apply it to all Turkic speaking muslims in Xinjiang. It means that the independence struggle of the smaller state is further legitimized and all the more noble for standing up to a bully. This applies to the ethnic minorities in Communist China, whom used to have autonomy/independence.
