Some people find that it downloads faster if you do it through the computer.

A more obvious reason is that some people do not have an internet connection on their PS3.

Awesome. I know that feeling! A User Account is a local account on the system for seperate users (to keep your saves and settings seperate from a friend's, for example). A PSN account is the name you log into online (like Xbox Live).

When you create a User Account on the system, you have the option to add a new or existing PSN name. You can have up to [I believe 3 now] activated systems... meaning your PSN name can be used on 3 systems (not at the same time). Like, let's say you have two systems in your house... they could both log into your PSN (at different times, only one system can be connected to one PSN name at the same time).

So the PSn ID is like the Xbox gamertag.

and what do you have as your Username (not psn id).

When you make a User Account, you get to set a name. There is an option to show all the accounts when you boot up.

If the update is required, yes. You will be required to update when you try to sign in to PSN. If it's optional, you will need to manually check (very quick).

Now last question.

It asks for your email when signing up for PSN.

If you enter your email, does it send stuff to your email (like updates, newsletters, or something).

and if they do, do they send lots of stuff?

I have the option for those emails turned on. I believe you can turn them off. I only get emails about what's new in the PSN Store, which I like. I occasionally will get an email about a particular game that's coming out / just came out. Nothing at all major, and like I said before... I think it can be turned off.

Windows does not need to recognize the file. Just follow the instructions in the video and it will update fine. The PS3 is what reads the file... not Windows.

If it is hooked up to the internet, then no. If it's not, you have to have some sort of usb storage device to transfer the data from the computer to the system.

Just because it's not updated doesn't mean it won't run. Sounds like the last owner unplugged it or something during an update and corrupted the data. If it's not reading your storage device, try another USB device. If that still fails, try using a different port on the system.

Be sure you have enough space on the device. You can also try downloading to the desktop then dragging it into the appropriate folder on the drive.

No. You need to keep you PS3 updated to the latest Firmware for any instabilities that may be in the previous versions: extra game stability, etc.

It's not risky updating your PS3 either. Just don't cut off the power and you don't need to worrie. Even if your power goes out, you'll be OK. Just to be safe, never intentionally turn it off.

hey mate is there a way to connect my ps3 to surround sound if im using the hdmi cable. cause the hdmi carries the sound but i want to connect my logitech 5.1 surround sound to it and that just has a standard red white connection

There is a way, but you can't have the audio in the surround sound. What I did was took the AV cables and put them in the surround sound. Then I put the settings to put audio through those and video through the HDMI. Understand what I mean?

m8 dont listen to this bell end get ur hdmi cable and set it up keep uoy scart/av plug in but seperate the two sound wires (red and white) and plug them into the back of the dvd player then go into display setting on ps3 do the setupe for hdmi cable then it will come up with set up audio settings click yes then it should be the one at the bottom "use scart"
