  • sounds sick. Looked like it was motivating to me.

  • All show no go.

  • too bad its not a northstar.. its called a gm shortstar..

  • @ladiesman56265 shortstar was a v6. It's a Northstar block and head designed by Caddy. Intake was designed by Olds.

  • It's like NASCAR in slow motion! Nice video. If you rolled up to a drag-racing meet and revved it, people would think some crazy stuff was going on under the hood.

  • @cripforlife88 If 8 years older than YOU is "middle-aged," I'm guilty as charged! And while I'm playing the old, know-it-all role, I'll also add that your grammar is TERRIBLE. "Your" & "you're" are NOT the same word. "Fulling" is NOT "fulfilling." As for my arrogance, I'll own that. I like good talk and even debate with intelligent people with objective views. It's okay if you're not up to that. But if you want to be a good GM guy, like me; if you want to be respected, STEP IT UP.

  • @cripforlife88 What are you gonna do? Go to engineering school & take out a bank loan so you can straighten out the transverse mount of the engine & put a powerglide transmission it & then move the dashboard and then run a driveshaft after moving the exhaust & crossmembers & then move the fuel cell so you can install a Ford 9" rear ALL so you can go out & STILL get beat by fwd imports? Remember you're still driving a 3900+ lbs luxury car. Why can't KIDS engage in real car talk?

  • @cripforlife88 Why do KIDS on YouTube CONSTANTLY go on-&-on about fwd vs rwd? Sure, I love my rwd '06 STS but fwd alone doesn't make a car slow. Owned 2 Auroras before my STS & 4k lbs with 250 hp makes a car slow, not fwd. All this hypothetical talk about converting a dumb, old car to rwd is so annoying & such a stupid-fucking waste of time! If fwd is too slow for you boyracers, then don't own an Aurora or a 90s Seville. Besides, you're not REALLY gonna do a conversion anyway ...

  • that looked slow

  • Just ROAR, lol... a cool sound, but no power, lol...

  • This camera actually picks up the loudness too!

  • i have an srx northstar, god im so tempted to make it sound like this

  • is this aurora turbo'd???

wondering because im most likely getting a 97 aurira and i plan on installing an sts turbo, and i havent found one thats even turbo

  • @warewolfsnimpalas no. . . 4.0 v8 250hp All Engine! the v6 is pushing like 215hp i think!

  • Love the rev limiter :D!

  • be nice I had a back road like that with no curves or cops to open up my dts...

  • lol the riv was way better

  • this is open headers?

  • SOUNDS LIKE SHIT!

  • The reason it doesn't seem fast is because the sound is excessively loud, making it seem slower, and the camera man is using a distant shot, if he was more closer to the road, the car would seem a lot faster, and that seems pretty fast for a 4.0L

  • @z3r0zx1 no the reason it doesnt seem fast is because it isnt fast lol

  • ah damn that aint no northstar , 1 view and a thumbs down for you my nigga :)

  • @TubeYou380 Actually this is an Northstar.....it's a 4.0 Liter Northstar

  • @TubeYou380 Yeah, it is actually. Might want to learn you up on sum gud english yo befo yo start tryin ta comint on othurz videeohs my kraker. Might also be a good idea to know something about a vehicle before you start trying to say what it is or isn't. I've got a 1997, and it sure as hell says Northstar on the block. Dumbass

  • just think of how badass it would be with a five speed manual. either way that is the sickest fucking aurora ive ever seen. after watching this video im going to go buy one

  • I have an 01 Seville now for 3 years. WILL SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE I CAN GET THE SPEED LIMITER DEPROGRAMMED!? Please!. My 155 mph car shuts down at 111 mph. so I have to set the cruise at 108mph to stop it from cycling. I will personally mail someone $100 to connect me with someone to deprogram my speed limiter. GM says they don't have "authorization"

  • @dogassedugly sorry buddy...but you don't need to be driving at that speed anyways..i love goin fast..but don't be a fuck tard and drive that fast..mainly in a caddy..those are meant for comfort..not speed..keep it on the track..not out where kids are!

  • @alpinetypeR666 It's a olds not a caddy. There are no kids in sight on an EMPTY road. I own an 86 caddy and step on it all the time. Been running for 25years. Besides you can hear the thing a mile away giving you enough time to move. I live in Miami with some of the worst drivers never had an accident and in a much more populated area. I see very little danger in what these guys are doing. I justified my opinion, and concluded that you my friend, are a dim one ;)

  • Now a S/C whine is needed, and we will be rollen! lol

  • So much noise but so little speed.

  • LOL!

  • The 95 olds aurora 4.0s run 15s in the 1/4 mile, when your going 60, floor it, ive hit 145 in mine. Not slow at all.

  • @westeg12 145? They are limited to 135, so i think 145 is a little exaggerated. My 2 gen is limited to 140, but ive gone 150 haha.

  • Why is it so slow? My 01 olds would just kill this thing. I have the v8, and even though its a small v8, it goes like a bat out of hell. Ricers hate it when they see my taillights. Always thinking they are hot shit with there 4 banger and a fart can. I hate these first gens, just ugly IMO. My 2nd gen in the black is SEXY!! Bloop!

  • @AwesomeSeth your gen II is almost 400lbs lighter than a gen I Aurora. that's the difference between an all aluminum block and heads vs a cast iron block with aluminum heads ;)

  • @350RSCamaro I know this, but besides that, this thing is slow. My neighbor has the first gen, and its alot quicker than this one. It is sluggish on the highway when you give it juice at 65, but from a standstill or in town it gets up pretty good.

  • Slow as fuck.

  • @lurch1489 Agreed.

  • lmao that's so awesome

wanting an STS so badly now, disconnect exhausts at the headers :)

  • Catalytic converters are evil.

  • Catalytic converters are evil.

  • That's sick.

  • AMAZING

  • cool!!!

  • still looks kinda slow

  • Now the bitch needs a supercharger and a ricer for lunch!

  • this is a totally different engine from the northstar. different again from the caddy 4.9. there was actually a racing series that used the "Aurora V8" sort of. it was a race engine for a spec series.

  • @REBELsst You should do research before saying anything, they are basically the same motors. only real difference is the bore which is smaller on the Aurora.

  • @GMisurdaddy no, the Aurora is an Olds engine based on the Northstar. yes it has a similar block and both share dual cams, the Aurora was only available in Olds products. and as u know there has been no Olds products since 04'. its not like the 3800 ware its the same engine in the Buick, Olds, Chevy and Pontiac. the Arora is a physicly different engine from the Northstar. totally different from the Cadillac 4.9 (push rod style v8). ive done my research... i own a 06' Northstar and had a 4.9.

  • @REBELsst funny you say that as Cadillac used the Aurora block in their LMP racecar and called it a turbo charged NORTHSTAR, and no not similar the SAME all be it with a smaller bore. The GM designed the motor and let Cadillac and Olds do their own thing with the SAME basic design. do some more research cause you are wrong. NOT physically different. and just because you owned an N* and a 4.9 doesn't meen your an expert, I'm a mechanic and have seen both motors torn apart. Nice try though.

  • @GMisurdaddy u do realize when ur in a caddy the engine does not say OLDS on it... right? they use different intakes, and with some models different heads. so no, not the same. the 3800 however is the same in every car its put it except for the cover saying what make car its in. what ur saying is like the ford 4.6 and the svt motor are the same... yes same size, totally different engine. same "design"... im a mechanic too, but i dont claim to be an expert. stop splitting hairs, ull go bald!

  • @REBELsst well said that shut him up

  • ... she have cutouts behind the headers?

  • not the same northstar as the caddy's fyi..

  • sleeper

  • Its official, I want one. Fuck camrys. Well, actually, I want a Chevy Corsica with the olds northstar 4.0l v8 in it!

  • 30 mph?

  • If my ears could have sex, this is what it would be.

  • I had a mint 1984 Plymouth Gran Fury that at THAT time 1999 had a 30 over 318 4 BBL, nothing fancy no special this or that just rebuilt with it's regular old A-904 with archaic 3 speed trans and it totally spanked a brand new Aurora from a dealership I used to work for. The Aurora had it's special little power button clicked on and everything. Then... then I got a steel crank nickel alloy block 375hp 480lbft 440 with 727 trans in it and not even V8 camaros at that time could come close

  • @GranFury440 There was a dude in Hemmings about 4 months back had a87? Chrysler 5th Ave. A real sleeper like your Fury. Mink Brown, brown leather interior, blah blah blah, BUT he dropped a Hemi in ti. DUDE!!! I soooo wanted to buy that carjust so I could smoke some camaros and porches and stuff.

  • come on!

  • Shelby series 1 had the 4.0 in it

  • sounds like a piece of shit

  • I hear the roar but I don't see it going anywhere :(

  • @Nextro09 That's what happens when you've got about 250hp pushing 4300lbs of car.

  • i feel like this is what this car would have sounded like in 68'..before all the shitty environmental stuff kicked in.

  • my motherfucker sounds rrrrreally agrrrrrrresive

  • my motherfucker sounds realliest agrrrresive

  • These are not your grandma's Oldsmobiles...

  • Yucky automatic.

  • omg! xD

  • i hate dohc engines

  • This is what is called the American Muscle. I'm actually from Korea, but then Im starting to get interested in American car because of this sounds.

  • @samlim94 well my Korean friend although this does sound great and is a great motor this is not muscle lol. look up big block just big block or hemi and you will see muscle lol.

  • sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • AWESOME! sleepers are the way to go! is that just straight pipes?

  • Haha I love it! Nice, man!

  • SOUNDS HELL YA,my motherfucker

  • auroras kick ass best car i ever owned

  • Such a good sound for a granny car. xD

  • That aint no granny car. When's the last time you saw a granny driving a 250 hp car?

  • My grandma has one. Lol.

  • Yea, and I bet that thing has never gone above 2000 rpm since she got it.

  • Yeah, It does when I drive it.

  • Indeed this was one of the best cars GM built.

  • As much as pushrods are "American" I can see the benefits of overhead cams such as fewer moving parts and no lost motion between the cam lobes and valves. Not to mention the rev-ability. I'm sure it makes Variable Valve Timing easier to implement. I'd like Chevy to come out with an overhead cam Variable Valve Timing 8100 V8 or something similar. Maybe big bore/short stroke to rev 8K with 490+ cubic inches.

  • Overhead cams in a domestic V8 who'd have thunk it Ford 4.6/5.4 and Cadillac/Olds 32 valve. Bet it turns 8K or more. My Toyota Corolla 1.8 would blow apart at 8K.

  • @Nivicoman

they can twirl 8K....but normally, the redline's around 6,500. in this vid, it prolly bearly touched 6000

  • NICE Aurora! i love Olds...

  • The car doesn't match the sound. haha

  • well there is some red necks there, got any beer?

  • ...And, one of the biggest problems the engine had was a "drinking problem." It liked head gaskets. Or, guess I should say, DIDN'T like head gaskets. The Northstar remained exclusive to Cadillac entirely until, I believe, 2005 when Pontiac began using the engine in the Bonneville GXP. Sorry, probably more info than anyone wanted, but I've done a lot of commercials for these brands, so I had to be up on my product knowledge as much as possible....

  • Great info I enjoyed it

  • The Northstar is also in the Buick Lucerne.

  • You know, I had forgotten about that, but yes, it is! I always pay attention to those when I see them on the road---I always look to see how many portholes are on the side of the fenders because that of course tells what engine it has....

  • I was doing a LOT of work for a couple of Olds/Chevy dealers when the Aurora came out---I remember what a dog and pony show that was. They made EVERY manager of each dealership travel back to Detroit to go through orientation, and in the end, it didn't save the Olds line. They would have been better off putting the money into the product instead of their stupid meeting.

  • @deathbyhammer ...and in the Pontiac Bonneville SSEi during the last couple of years.

  • SSEi were superchaged...The northstar powered bonnevilles were GXP's.

  • Agreed, the SSEi's were always 3.8 Supercharged V6s the GXp was the only late model bonneville with a V8

  • The 4.0L was, indeed, based off the Northstar without being the Northstar. The true Northstar was a 4.6L 32 valve DOHC all aluminum/steel sleeved engine that debuted in 1993 for the last year of the Allante; it was used in the Eldorado and the Seville; it was a replacement for the 4.9L engine. Cadillac refused to allow the other divisions to use its Northstar as it maintained the engine exclusively for its own brand. The Aurora V8 was a downsized Northstar, but it had quite a few differences.

  • load but slow

  • sorry not a northstar ...thats an aurora v8 ....totally different

  • Wrong. It's the smallest displacement Northstar in there. There never was an Aurora V8.

  • What do you mean? There were a lot of Olds Auroras with v8s. They were all 4.0's, but they were still v8s.

  • I HAD NO CLUE THOSE WERE V8S WOW

  • sounds like a damn NASCAR!

  • im getting a 97 Rora for $580!!! guy just wants to gone, rebuilt engine, 111K miles, just wants money back for tires

if i remember, i'll make a video of the reciepts showing i paid 580 and of the car

  • no, it's based off the Northstar

Northstars i THINK are 4.6L, this is 4.0L..think it's called a Shortstar. and no, 95-97? had these engines :)

  • no shortstars are the 3.5L v6 in the second gen aurora the aurora v8 is the same block as the 4.6

  • yeah i noticed that when i did some more research lol

knew about the aurora engine was the same block as the northstar..but i knew they couldnt call it a northstar, because it really isnt lol..different displacement.

  • Awsome car the DOHC V8 is really a master pice of engineering. did you know the same engine powered the shelby seires 1 race car.

  • Holy crap! NASCAR sound!

  • that sounds like a beast for being only 4.0 liters...

  • yep it has a northstar....or is that a shortstar? i can't remember.

i agree tho, that is one badass sounding car!

    almost sounds like nascar. hahah

    5* for you man.

  • hahaha thats badass! V8 power baby!

  • wow should do that with my aurora haha

  • wow...

  • that's just askin to get pulled over

  • i don't care what you people say an aurora is not supposed to sound like that

  • and that, my friend, is why it is badass. Looks like your grandma's grocery getter, yet when you start it up it sounds like a goddamn demon that wants to fucking eat you. FTW.

  • @mrbcargirl yup, Alero sounded the same way when my flex broke... i love Oldsmobiles....

  • @mrbcargirl its slow, all bark and no bite. My 03 SSEi would kill it.

  • the aurora engine is indeed a northstar

    L47. designed only for aurora's.

the L37 northstar was used in seville's,

deville's and eldorados and a few others.

the aurora engine died with oldsmobile's shutdown, amd has not been reproduced.. a shame as these were excellent motors.

  • Oldsmobiles dont have northstars in them. and that car looks like an oldsmobile aurora.

  • Yes they do, Its a northstar engine. Look at 4.0 Northstar (Which the aurora has) and look at a 4.6 northstar( that caddy has) They will look the same. Just the bore and stroke is differnt..

  • it just sounds so out of place haha

  • I can only imagine wat a Cadillac Northstar would sound like if done the same way...

  • I was thinking the same thing... the Olds N* was only the mini version.

  • I had a 92 Cadillac deville and the pipe broke in front of the cat. i was def after 10 min of driving it like that. then i got Maginaflow series II with a high flow cat and manderal bent exhaust. check the vid.

  • just bought one of these cars from an old couple for $1600.00 runs beautiful. every option available. not the quickest car Iv'e driven, but it makes up for it in luxury and ride.

  • Ahh yes, I actually had one of these on loan for a a few days a few years ago when my car was in the shop. I knew the aurora was good. But I was even more impressed behind the wheel! What a fantastic auto! Fast with great handling and good brakes. I loved it! :)

  • i once owned a 95 in light blue, dark blue int. and i did spend a few bucks on a rebuilt trans, a generator and a new ignition. the repairs are expensive and so are parts. i got it in bad shape from a family member. this was in 99 and i had on 19inch lorinser D93,limo tint, i got alot of compliments and ass as well. My point is that these cars can be reliable if you take care of em, that specific engine block was used in indy race cars. I recommend you get a shift kit as i did.

  • I cant say my car hasnt given me zero problems, because its actually given me well ove 5k worth the problems. But its a pleasure doing business with the car I cant complain too much.

  • Nice......

  • The V-8 in the Aurora is only 4.0 liters, not the 4.6 in the Cadillacs

  • i bet peole cant believe that....the way that car sounds i would exspect it to have a v6 or something small that car is amazing

  • i'm impressed with this car, it doesn't look like it can do anything.

  • that sounds bad ass. Im gonna do that to my 98 sts 4.9 northstar!

  • 4.9? If you have a '98 STS, you have a 4.6L Northstar with 300 hp. Second, the 4.9 isn't a Northstar, and third, the 4.9 was only produced from 1991-1995. It's rated for 200 hp, and 275 lb/ft of torque.

  • My bad, my moms car has the 4.9l (non northstar) in her 93'' STS and i have the 98' STS with the 4.6l DOHC 32V. My car is faster than hers to.lol. But my good car is my 2005 6.0L GTO... With mild cam, flowmasters, intake, limiters taken off the computer and its block on black with red stiching around interior trim and topped off with black cragers ss with polished lips.!

  • I've got an '01 SLS with the 4.6 as well. They're awesome engines and for such a massive car, it really gets up and goes!!

You have a GTO? Lucky bastard....

  • Yeah i got a GTO, I'm only 18 and now im a high school senior and i bought all my cars myself, not like these sploiled rich plp, i just work in a plant 2nd shift. The GTO was about $16k with 23k miles on it. Ive never been beat by antone when im in the goat and i still never loose in the STS, both great cars.

  • Wow, only 18 and you've purchased both an STS and GTO. That's both impressive and enviable, in my opinion. The quickest cars I've ridden in was both my SLS and my friend's modded GTP with the supercharged 3800.

  • A modded GTP, thats funny cuz my friend got a 98' regal gs wit a 3.8 supercharger and i just helped him mod his, smaller pulley, new stronger pistons/rods, new cam, rockers, machined heads and car looks completely stock, its a real sleeper. I always mad fun of his shit but i recently drove it and its pretty fast. 2day i let him drive my GTO but just around da block and he only stalled the 6.0l once..lol. Then i showed him how i drive and well..he wanted to jus cruise in the caddy. lol.

  • It's all GM, that's all that matters :)

  • Halogen360 - Have the cylinder head gaskets failed yet? If not, they will. It's about a $3,200 repair. :(

  • AH! ur pushing to hard .... driving the piss outa it

  • hey goon. cars dont P***

  • goon??? wtf are u old? rofl

  • This engine was designed to be driven hard.

In fact the ones that Grams and Gramps have babied around town all have carbon knock and leaking or blown head gaskets. Drive them how they were designed to run every now and then and maintain them how modern engines are to be maintained and you'll be impressed with the beatings they beg for and receive. Mine's given me zero problems thus far other than accessories and minor maintenance. 184,000 miles and still feels like all 300hp is there.

  • The Aurora only has 250hp, man. The 4.6 liter caddy northstar has either 275 or 300 depending on which one you get, but the Aurora V8 only has 250.

Granted I'm not knocking it, I love my Aurora. I sure wish it had 300hp, it just doesn't.

  • Sorry I forgot to mention I have a 95 STS. Although I am a huge Olds, Cadillac and older Pontiac fan. But yes I know all about the engine and its variant with the same architecture but lower displacement.

  • I agree, IMO its the detonation from the carbon buildup on top of the pistons that cause the FEW (we've seen one at our dealer since I've started working there) hg leaks. I beat the crap out of mine (see vids) and its never had a hg related issue. I'm at 170K miles.

  • They have a bad rep because the ones that do fail always will make it to the complaint boards all over the net. When the vehicle is functioning how it should, people don't bitch (who would right?). Many people don't know that these engines are high performance engines designed for high performance use.

And no matter what car a person drives it WILL break down at some point, no questions. These are great cars I guess if a person knows them though. Glad to hear yours has been good as well.

  • Exactly, you won't hear about the ones the run fine all over the net, just the bad ones. Same goes for good news/bad news around small towns. Only bad news meets the gossip/etc.

  • ur a fucking idiot try 250 hp at the flywheel

  • Well if that's the case then it must take one to know one.

If you would have read the comments below you would have seen that I stated I was talking about my 95 Seville. A true 4.6L Northstar, 300HP at the crank. The Olds variant is the same architecture but with lower displacement (4.0L) and I believe different cams but don't quote me on that one. Because of this and for marketing purposes the Northstar label and its 4.6L displacement was exclusive to Cadillac.

  • only 250 HP actually, no where near 300

  • Yes the Oldsmobile L47 "Northstar" Produced 250HP.

Cadillac models produced 270/275HP in its LD8 code and 290/300HP in its L37code.

But I have a Seville and not an Aurora. Not that the Olds is a bad car at all, but I'm on my 3rd Cadillac and I can't see myself straying anytime soon.

  • any car with open headers will sound load...

  • dude i bet thats a 1995 cause in that year, they put origional racing engines into those cars.. dont know what they were smoking wen they thought of it but o well lawl

  • Sounds like an old 6 cyl. chevy pick up. LOL

Put your muffler on & go home.

  • LIAR!

  • that doesnt sound too bad. better than a civic for damn sure.

  • one of my favorite vids of all time.

  • u call a 4000lb car that can rip off a 6.5sec

  • arora are for old people

  • its not even fast. and doesnt sound cool either... but whatever works for you champ.

  • i guess the hole northstar thing worked out a lot better 4 cadillac LOL

  • its loud, but slow....all that noise.....

  • what do you expect its a full size sdn.

  • so is a M5

  • LMAO at open heads on a grandpa car...slow as sin but holy shit thats loud, couldnt stop laughing.

  • i love this car, have one....wana keep it forever, it sucks tho, where i ive i was like the only 1 in the city that had one, now everybody does :(

  • That's one bad mother.....Shut your mouth....But I'm talking about Northstar. We can dig it :-D
