OH MY GOD THIS IS BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!! Kenny, thank you so much for this - brought back a lot of childhood memories. At 12 years old, the "power plant" song was my first introduction to computer generated music. I've been tracking ever since (am 28 now) - still going with Renoise :) You were my inspiration to get into this (..and Purple Motion, of course). Thank you.
@wangm3ist3rG I remember listening to my first .mod, then finding out how to create my own. All I did after school was rush home to work on tunes. I actually found a disc with most of my early stuff. They were some shitty ass songs, but oh... the memories they produce. :]
I was 10 years old when this videogame released. I played it for 3 straight years because the music was so immersive and it set my young mind's imagination on fire. You sir, have done me a great service growing up and I just want you to know I appreciate it so much. Thank you for all you've done. I'll keep listening.
Such great music, Kenny. If only controllers like the HotRod-SE or X-Arcade came out back in the early 90s. We'd have the absolute best controllers for this game.
@capitaljaymusic@FrostTheory Hi from the US! Before I started this remake, I listened to the OCR remixes. Probably the best remixes out there... still!
You've inspired us to remix your music twice now (both are on OCR). I can rarely think of an instance where a fighting game soundtrack fitted the style of the game more than it did in OMF2097.
This reconstruction is really well done! I really hope if they decide to make another one of these games to bring you back to compose the music for it. I can only imagine how awesome a reconstructed Power Plant theme must sound like...
MAN, Are you REALLY Kenny Chou!? got to be insane to know that you have influence a LOT of people on his music inspiration and styles, we grew up in the 90's with this nice videogame and of course that unbelievable OST :D
I have made my own version the very first time i used modplug tracker, but it was only a scaled down with new battery and intro, and some distorsion guitar notes :D
Dude, I would love to have my OMF2097 copy signed :D My friend Adrian will be nuts!!
O_O last i think heard you had dropped off the internets and no one knew where you had gone
btw what programs do you use and where can i buy it? i have recently been going through lame program after lame program (sebalius is nasteh i think)
i wonder what happened to willow pond... (program i had on the computer i grew up with and thinking about it... it had one must fall on it as well... found it recently but it dosent work anymore)
@lekoro1 then again my information about you being missing from the internets could be out of date... i was still having fun on dos when xp came out :D
@kchow6575 Well, there was a bit of pause of your presence between CCCatch and ProphecyX and then again when that website went off the grid. I suppose your close friends always knew how to reach you though. ;)
I wonder how many of all people that I used to know on the 'net in the early 90s and lost touch with I'll one day find via Facebook. Hah!
@lekoro1 I use Renoise tracker. Beautiful program. :] I've tried many myself throughout the last decade (Cakewalk, Sonar, Cubase, Logic, Buzz, FL, Ableton, Reason...), but Renoise is the one I always go back to. It's the one that reminds me the most of the old trackers I used to use.
You are my god. You can't imagine how much you inspired and influenced me in the 90's. You are one of the reasons I produce music, even today (started when I was a little over 10, now I'm 28).
I'm with @SilverKnight2138 on this one. You definitely inspired my childhood!!
I remember for hours on end having the game pulled up just so I could hear this song. This is just one of those songs that seems like a lasting legacy. :P Nowadays it makes for an excellent ringtone on my smartphone and good driving music.
You have mythanks for your creative genius!! :) Your an inspiration to us all.

Dear god man you inspired my childhood, and to this very day I go into work with the theme stuck in my head. And i'm pretty sure you did the same for many, many other people. Give yourself a pat on the back, you deserved it.
Check out the 'one must fall and you must dance' remix, i think its on OCremix.
If you have more inspiration left after all these years, please do the power plant theme next.
@SilverKnightm2138 I've listened to the OCRemix version, and it was a pretty amazing mix. One that really caught my attention was Capital Jay's 'Symphonic Storms - One Must Rise 2011'. As for Power Plant, Saiboter made a remix of that too, which is bangin'! Anywayz, the links are below. :]
I would post their Youtube links, but it won't let me in here. :(
@SilverKnightm2138 I just patted myself on the head. Close enuff. :] I heard the OCRemix version, and found it to be pretty amazing. I like how it blended elements of several OMF songs in one. :]
As for remaking Power Plant... that actually is my current project. ;) Alas, Battlefield 3 came out, so it might delay the release. Duty calls! Pew pew!
@kchow6575 Another long time fan here since childhood. I also stuck with DOS until 98, and then I bitterly moved from 98 to XP when I ran out of options - though the ceasing of BSOD is nice (but I kept the desktop in classic mode display with gray colour theme!). And now even MS dropped support for XP I'll stick to it until I'm no longer able to re-install it.
My request is, as much as I love Power Plant (somewhat remniscent of Mortal Kombat for some reason), I'd rather Zone66's main theme!
@Foxstab That one would be more difficult to remake. Z66 songs were written in a custom FM/Sample tracker that only ran in DOS protected mode. Without being able to load the tracker and song to review the patterns, I would have to go by memory. It's been so long. :( The worst is if I remake the song by memory, and it turns out being a bad rendition of the original. Maybe we should let it be, and just reminisce on it. The Z66 theme was definitely one of my better works. The power of inspiration..
@kchow6575 Heh, unfortunate. Although the payoff should be worthwhile, no? ;)
Well, can always get a good boner over there youtube.com/watch?v=XthpIqRvAL0
XD
Could it perhaps be possible to use DOSBOX to run the custom tracker? z66 was also itself very particular about what environment it'd agree to run on, and some dude managed to get it to tick.
@Foxstab He used DOSBOX 0.73 with the following arguments: core=normal cputype=auto cycles=9000 sbtype=sb16 sbbase=220 irq=5 dma=1 hdma=5 sbmixer=true oplmode=auto oplemu=default oplrate=49716 xms=false ems=false umb=true
@Foxstab Ugh, youtube being baddies again...seems that copypasta that link fails. Can find it through regular search, though. "Zone 66 - Soundblaster - Menu" by Blueoriontiger.
@Foxstab Haha, I checked it out earlier. He made a pretty clear recording of it! It might be worthwhile, but I also want to start working on new material eventually. :]
As for DOSBOX, I will look into it. There are a couple of other obstacles. One of which is locating the source files I saved on a floppy somewhere in my parents place. Second, would be to look for a 5 1/4 floppy drive. Third, would be to see if the files are still intact, and not corrupted. :) Funfunfun.
Awesome, C.C.Catch! LOVED that song back when I first bought the game (the *day* it was available for sale), and is still one of the BEST game tracks ever composed IM(not so)HO! :)
just wondering
do you know what has happened to rob elam? last i have been able to find about him was from 2003 :/

...the pains of setting the Soundblaster IRQ and all that BS.
