  • You know the product well but your viewers would be much better served (and you would look much more professional) if you wrote and followed a script rather than just turn on the camera and start talking.

The vast majority of tutorial videos on Youtube break this same basic rule. Set yourself apart by putting some planning into your videos

  • okay so i had no idea how screenwriting works but after i downloaded celtx and goggled some stuff up i feel like i'm a pro :P

  • Is this pretty good?

  • @SYZ yes!! :)

  • This software is a lifesaver to my movie writing

  • Twats

  • Thanks man you just made my life 10x's easier.

  • Fantastic tutorial man!

  • I appreciate Celtx.

  • I wrote entire 120 pages long script in Microsoft word and then find this program. Only thing I dislike about CELTX is formating whole text to the left side.

  • You could also enter here to win a free copy of the Offical guide too. Enter before July 20th.

  • bebr

  • Drew is my favorite movie now.

  • HAHAHA. i do think this video is good, but you put EXT. which is outside then wrote computar desk, so the computar is outside? :L

  • I'm writing a screenplay for some voice actors right now. The entire project is done over the web so my directing needs to be in the screenplay.

If there is a way, how is it professionally done when directing a voice actor in the screenplay for how I went the line to be expressed?

  • @norwegianapple well ext. means exterior or outside. & int. means interior or inside.

  • i thought you need to include the camera shot descriptions in a screenplay also

  • @pccrybabyhater that's the director and cinematographers job

  • @DCBcomedy You don't even know what the director's job is

  • hi. is celtx better than final draft?

  • @VinnyLT9000 no! celtx can indeed write a screenplay, but when it comes to writing on a professional level, you need to use the software that is standard for industry pros.

  • It's EXT. FOREST - DAY and not EXT.FOREST.DAY

  • you have 138,000 videos?!?!!?!?!?!!!!?!

  • @rune500125 that's crazy. That means they'd have to upload at least 80 videos a day since youtube started.

  • Love Celtx!!! Such a gift to aspiring screenwriters!

Before I knew of it, I was into Scripped.com but it had many limitations.

  • thank you for this great tutorial!!! its is greatly appreciated my friend... keep up the good work....

  • Thanks, writing a script for 11th grade media, very helpful.

  • Thanks for the information. Very helpful.

  • Why is COMPUTER DESK exterior? Who the hell has their computer desk outside? I'm not judging or anything, but you have to be careful with the rain.

  • @djButtaSkotch Epic comment XD ^^^^^

  • I've started writing a screenplay in notepad. Is there a way I can convert it to Celtx as a formated script without rewriting the whole thing?

  • @thegreeninferno

There is an Import Script option in Celtx for text tiles...try that.

Or you could just copy paste the whole thing and format it new. :p

  • what if you start with INT. ?

  • @kplane1 Interior?

  • I've Celtx for almost a year now. Every single short film that I've made was written in Celtx. I DO NOT REGRET DOWNLOADING. It's fast, easy, and you get the hang of it real fast. I love it.

  • And its FREEEEEE

  • haha. FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Everybody say that now.

  • @MTOTOwaNYAYO Like the Ferrari from Bedtime Stories.

  • @Tyronor actualyy the horse was free... not the car

  • Thanks. Video was helpful.

  • So do genuises start off writing on this program? or is this for noobs pretty much? Looks basic and interesting if you really want to get start screen writing like me or if you cant buy final draft... im going to try it since it out.

  • A few different established screenwriters have used Celtx, and a lot of people in the industry are switching to it since it is "open", meaning free. The only thing equivalent to it would be Final Draft, which is a paid program and doesn't have the depth that Celtx has.

  • Hi frnkenfish:

Why do the developers of the software pronounce it with a "k" rather than an "s"? I tend to think they know how to pronounce their own software.

  • lame

  • luv the ad integration

  • My friend was stupid we're trying to write a screenplay, and I went over to his house the other day and he said he put more dialouge, and what her did was go to action and he just put a lot of spaces on it until he got to the middle.

  • It seems like a good program, but whenever I make a new line, it's just all uneven and not centered. I have to put in a bunch of spaces to center something.

  • Sounds like you're trying to fight what Celtx does, which is to format your text according to industry standards. Make sure you have the correct heading selected (ie. Scene Heading, Action, Character, etc.) and if your text is *supposed* to be centered it will be.

  • I managed to fix my problem, thanks though.

  • Bless you.

YOUTUBE is the greatest. Where else can you find demonstrations on bomb making and how to put on fake eyelashes in the same place?

  • you guys rock for this free software

  • Celtx is wonderful. Very safe, clean, and free software. One thing, how do you delete a script?

  • As an independent filmmaker, Celtx is the shit! Especially since I have no money at all to buy those expensive software.

  • Nope. Not at all. It runs smoothly on my laptop. No spam and no adware either. It's legit. I hope I helped and good luck. :)

  • Celtx is a godsend to me. I just downloaded it not to long ago. And it's fully functional. I don't have to BLOW 120 dollars or 200 dollars on software. THANK GOODNESS! Seriously, I have combed the internet for free software and I couldn't find much until I found youtube and learned about Celtx. So now, I can write all the screenplays and projects I always desired to do.

  • is celtx free. When I download it, I'm not gonna get some crazy virus, right?

  • It is completely free, as of now. And no virus whatsoever

  • Not at all, Celtx is a free program, virus-free, worm-free, trojan-free. So you're good with Celtx!

  • You ROCK for making this video.

    ~God Bless.

  • Hi. You are a GOD thank you for saving me, really. Celtx is amazing and it's free.

  • @dtomas22 So you know for a fact that this free?

  • I was an award winning corporate video producer for 5 years. Now I write stage plays and novels. I LOVE Celtx. It is super easy to use, has an easy way to back-up your work on their server, and you can communicate with and collaborate with people from all over the world through the Celtx forums. Wonderful and FREE. If you are writing spec. scripts for stage or screen, this is by far your best choice for software.

  • Can I get a degree in communications ( radio broadcasting) to be able to learn how to write a script or should a take a course in theater.

  • take a course in theater/directing/producing...you don't have to go to school to learn how to read and write a script...there's tons and tons of scripts on the internet...just google it dude...you shouldn't have any problems...download this free software that he's talking about and just practice, print it out and have family and friends read your script to give you feed back...

  • yeah i want the good foundation of script writing. such as theory ( like in accounting you can learn debits and credits but you want to learn to be able to have the theory to be able to explain why you are doing what you are doing to be creative and think outside the box) you want the techincal then build off of that .

I dig what you are saying tho.

  • you could go that route. i majored in english (writing emphasis) and i minored in screenwriting. its kinda bullshit to major in screenwriting because the industry really only hires people with life experience. unless your shit is amazing. theater courses wont really help you develop screenplays unless your writing for the theater. write about what you know, then purchase editing software. i know engineering graduates that write. its all about dedication.

  • so communications major is a better rout. I would not mind being able to do both. like tyler perry to go from theater to movie screen. im not a tyler perry fan but he was able to make the transition. im sure there is a major difference for screen and theater. it sounds communication would be better if you are unable to go to film school correct ? I have a fall back position now (Accounting).

  • Such wise and inspiring words Ric :)

You're spot on, It is all about dedication.

I see this type of writing as one of these things that schools and colleges CAN help you with...although if you have a bit of savvy you can teach yourself.

5 star video thank-you, you have made getting my ideas down MUCH easier.

  • you don't need to do all that for example I am 15 and know how to do a sript !! you just need a book that will teach you how !

  • well yeah you don't have to, but celtx is a great way to increase your speed and efficiency when writing a screenplay, it keeps everything organized and is very easy to use
