  • I've at least HEARD (because I haven't seen Morris' version) All three versions of this (Morris, Krakowski, Cruz). Each version has its quirks. This is one is definitely the MOST CREATIVE and well done. I mean the curtain she's wrapped up in at the beginning and end is GENIUS!!!

  • I saw the original on Broadway with Anita Morris. Men were literally unable to breath after her performance. SHE was a woman! The kind of woman even women love. The film took a few moves from the original but couldn't compare. There's a rough cut of her on youtube to give you a vague idea. It's been 30 years and I remember it vividly.

  • Wow, Jenna Maroney just got way sexier!

  • Haha!! this version always makes me laugh , this scene wasn't so funny in the film

  • @Haimfan Not to mention, the film actually made the number MORE theatrical. But movie adaptations typically tend to do that, which is odd.

  • wowwwwww

really good version of this song.

its really interesting how much the musicall numbers change from brodway to movies

    not only this one

all that jazz and the cell block tango from chicago were so diferent when saw them in the movie and when i saw the live video from youtube

  • WOW!

It's really HARD to sing while doing what she does... She's really talented! I saw her in London in "Guys and Dolls" with Ewan McGregor... she is really good!

By the way... I saw the movie... I think the movie lost the comedy and wasn't that good...

It wasn't bad, but not as good as it could have been...

  • Penelope's accent is obvious in her singing, but i think that's what made her version more exotic and sexy.. I liked jane's but I also preferred Penelope's. :)

  • Wow you just can't really beat penelope cruz in my opinion on this one.

  • huh...i prefer penelope cruz's version much more. she's good though.

  • le queda mejor a penelope cruz

  • Her voice is so sexy and I love how they staged this number. Great work.

  • woooo!

LOL you could see her putting on the safety bracelet at 3:18 (not that it would be visible at all from the stage...and even if it was, im sure noone would think of that after THAT performance ;D)

  • Oh man this was good! But I would be so afraid to hang upside down like that at the end! OH BOY!

  • LMAO!!!!

i like this one much better than the one in the actual movie!

    well done

  • she is amazing and this makes me love her

  • jaja muy wenoo (Y)

  • This is phenomenal! She deserved the Tony. But even so, as rlee1976 said, it isn't comparable to Anita Morris's performance.

  • Jane did a very wonderful job singing and acting, but the dancing/contorting they had Anita do in the original in 1982 was just out of this world compared to this!

  • love herr

  • She ROCKED this. Love it. :D

  • I didn't know Jane could sing. She did a good job.

  • AND it won her a Tony Award! :D lol.

  • Jane made her B'way debut in Starlight Express in 1987 and then went on to star in Grand Hotel the Musical in 1989 as Flaemchenn. She originally started on stage!

  • This video is amazing! Could you please upload something else from this show? I would love to see My Husband Makes Movies and Be Italian!

  • I know the focus is on her, but couldn't he a be a bit more facially expressive in the scene, yet trying to disguise? He stays there like a robot as in a pure business call, no reaction...I know he's trying to convey it's one, but it's not., so he should've slipped on the feeling out at certain moments as in giving himself away. But what do I know? Sorry!

  • I wouldn't say it was terrible. It just tried WAY too hard to be 8 1/2 the Musical instead of being Nine the Movie.

  • penelope was much sexier

  • damn

  • I think Penelope combined the best of Anita and Jane's interpretations and created some real heat without taking anything away from what the two brought to the character.

  • two different mediums.

    two different artists.

    two different interpretations.

    two different visions.

stop making it a competition. it's not.

  • I prefer Jane Krakowski's performance to Penelope Cruz's. Just sayin'

  • absolutely not. She can sing. Penelope can't. There is no denying that Penelope is good. But no one can top Jane in this. No one.

  • whatever, think whatcha wanna think.

  • she's considered a modern actor by a culture stuck in the old days of the profession. when fudgers of cinema acting rule.

thanks, penelope. another step backwards for our arts world. you are a trailblazer.

  • @didaDIthatsme well, this is theatre, so the performance can't be as subtle. it has to be big and exaggerated.

  • @didaDIthatsme jane's voice is sexy

  • LMFFFAAOOO!!

    OMG!

    LMFFFAAOOO!!!

    good performance :)

cant wait to see penelope do it ;)

  • the caracter that penelope acting is italian, and have an accent obviously.

  • No .. Penelope Cruz's english is Latin English ... so it is perfect ... and sexy ... :E

  • great, now YOU'RE telling us how our language should be spoken - with a toe thick incomprehensible accent.

  • Comment removed

  • Penelope, i can't wait for see your performance in Nine

  • can you possibly put up "be italian"?! Its the best :)

  • so sexy without being trashy i love it

  • Woah. That's all I can say.

  • Anita Morris gave one of the legendary performances of this great song. She was a sexy, sexy woman. Much missed. Penelope C is going to steal the movie with this song.

  • Everytime I see this again I still say "WOW"!!!!

  • Cant wait to see Penelope Cruz singing this!!!

  • I saw the original Carla of broadways nine Anita Morris

Im sorry but she was a lot hotter & sexier then Jane kranowsk!

  • I agree 100%. Jane was sexy and her acting was good, but Anita Morris blew this number (and the rest of her role) out of the ballpark. One of those unforgettable Broadway performances. (I think even Jane would agree.)

  • Call from the Vatican and Simple are the only clips ever posted. Does anyone have clips of Jane or Anita in the comical "nun's habit' scene right before Be Italian?

  • i love it! thank you :-)
