Songs like this make me just proud of being part of mankind. Heart on his sleeve...it's not difficult to tell between a phony and a man who means it. John I miss you.
This version is recorded on his CD Ain't No Saint. I'll never stop playing this man's music. After 25 years he's still the most important musician in my life. - Never to be forgotten I'm sure. RIP John. and many many thanks.
this is 1 of 2 songs ive ever heard in my life that touches the deepest depths of a soul, connecting in such a powerful way beyond words could ever describe, your the most pure sound ive ever known on the guitair, along with david gilmour who you played with,i hear your souls cry in your music in a magical way and your lyrics are amazing,i cry every single time...rest in peace now joihn, that hurt in your heart has finally gone...
straight from his heart!!! hes thinking about a special someone when he sings this song....rip john you emotional , heart on your sleeve , volcano you!! ur all grace and danger!.....
I love this version. I remember watching this on TV at the time and tried to find a copy of it, but couldn't. Not only a fantastically powerful love song, but time travel too! Ah, Johnny Boy...
This gets me every time I watch it or hear it (and I've been a fan since I bought 'Grace & Danger' in 1980. I can't think of any other guy who ever showed this much emotion in a song. I always have to follow-up with 'May you never' just to lighten the heart a little.
deep....im into soooo much music and diffo styles ....and i agree with you...even in some of the most heart wrenching blues...but john was an emotional volcano...he had to be!! when you see him at his lowest he brings out the most unexpected low_- highs if you can understand me....so much sadness with overwelming highs....you can learn so much from music if you open your ears and mind....love it!! rip john....one of the greats!!
This fucking song just made me cry... Again... The emotional depth of this great man just can't be put into words, the music simply speaks for itself. I hope JM and Beverley find happiness again sometime.
The first time i Saw John playing was about 86 when he released sapphire. I wasnt very familiar with his music at that time ,but from the first note i said what the f**** is this and i will never forget when he played Hurt in your heart screaming wild his eyes filling up, there was a wave of emotion that i will never forget . Dark, macabre even. Still the best gig i was ever at.
@zappascotland I think that many people would rate JM as one of the best and influential guitarists of the last 40 years - even if he did sell bugger all albums :-)
That was pure heaven to my ears. I loved the man's music so much and this reminds me just why that is (not that I needed reminding.) Just wish I could stop getting choked up every time I listen to or watch him.
Totally agree. It's the musicians who can truly describe the human condition and JM was one of the greatest. Pure genious. Pure emotion. All the beauty and tragedy of life. Simply brilliant.
That's possibly the most remarkable description of this video I've ever heard. It's so true. I've never seen such raw emotion come across from any musician and it reduces me to tears every time I see it. John Martyn truely was an incredible human being and I wish I could thank him for what he's given us.
I agree with what dougfinn2 said earlier - Heaven is now a better place and we are left here feeling we've lost a friend. Rest in peace John - no more hurt in your heart.
A remakable light extinguished...we are all the better for having him while we did. I hope his soul is finally at ease. Spencer's travels are over now.
This is the best version of this track and it gets me every time, the guitar solo just makes the hairs on my neck stand on end. Thank you for posting. Indeed it is a hurt in my heart that he has gone. God bless you John
