Yeah, it seems like all they did was add scenes to the existing movie and cut out scenes they didn't like. Something I've done myself. I think WB just didn't give them enough time to really work on it before the big 14 disc release. Also WB didn't give them much money. The money they spent hiring a double and building a Crystal Chamber for the Depowering scenes could've been spent on hiring the actors to say the lines in the original script and use cg to make the actors' faces for new scenes.

That's really good. Why weren't ideas/concepts like this done for the "Richard Donner Cut"? That scene was in the original script.

Probably because Donner and Thau are not as dedicated to the film as the fans are. And they have their own personal agenda, too.

After all, they replaced every frame of Lester footage that they could possibly replace. In a few cases (not many, but they exist), the Lester footage was actually better. If he'd not spent quite so much time on getting even, he might've been able to do some more stuff like this.
